Review on Linear Tube Audio Aero DAC Hi @teajay , enjoyed the review. I see in your profile that you still own a Pass Labs D1 DAC. I own one also and I love it. Curious how you think it holds up today against the reference DACs you have reviewed recently?
Best speaker brands for transient response If you are after transients first and foremost I would take a long look at Zu Union 6. I audtioned some and the transient response was off the charts, but they can also be a bit picky with upstream gear. Luckily Zu gives you 60 days to audition.
Coherent speakers from Canada I still have my Coherent 10's from my earlier post 5 years ago, time flies! I also have a pair of Volti Razz. Both are excellent, fairly similar with some slight differences. Voltis dig deeper and tighter in the bass than the Coherents, and th...
Transparent Audio is anything but Transparent This thread has had some good comedy, thank you all. I think I would be a bit wary of buying used cable brands like Cardas and Audio Note that use rather plain looking outer sheaths, they just look too easy to forge. Not that cables need to have...
Volti does it again! I picked up a pair of Razz over the holidays from Greg. All I can say is all of the rave reviews from Doyle and other reviewers are spot on. I love my Coherent 10's but I wanted something that could play on a bigger scale but with refinement, an...
Can you provide context on First Watt? Pass Labs service is outstanding, possibly the best in the industry. I emailed Nelson a question about dimming bulbs on my SIT-2 and he shipped out replacement bulbs to me without my even asking. He even followed up to make sure I received them. ...
How To Keep Cat Off Stereo Equipment? +1 on upside down sticky tape, works great
Anyone heard new Zu Union 6? Reporting back to say I returned the Unions to Zu. They do improve with break in and did a lot of good things, but they were for a third system (I know). For the record I have Zu Defheads in my bedroom that I've listened to daily for the last 7 ...
Who has heard and can comment on any of these brands?? I have Coherent 10's. They are in my virtual system posted here. I'm not familiar with the other brands mentioned by the OP. Coherents will be in the high efficiency camp. Very easy to drive, outstanding clarity in the midrange, great imaging,...
Anyone heard new Zu Union 6? Mine are the standard version with Mission wire and ClarityCaps. I have them tight in the corners, maybe about 4 inches off the wall. Your walnut Unions look great, I wish I had gone that route.
Anyone heard new Zu Union 6? Hey Kray, I am also giving Union 6 a try right now to see if I want to trade up from my Dirty Weekends. They just arrived yesterday. Have you tried corner loading these? Because right now that seems to be where they are performing best in my ro...
My experience with the First Watt F7 Good thread, enjoy the viewpoints, both positive and negative. I believe Steve Guttenberg put it best when he said the First Watt amps don't always hit, even when you have a good match on paper, but when they do, they hit really hard. I've owned...
Anybody watch Steve Huff audio on the Tube? I have no issue with Steve or any of the YT reviewers. They are just passionate audio fans like us. Why is it ok for a forum member to be blown away by some gear and then swap it out for something else later, but not Steve Huff? I do get annoye...
First Watt F8, passive preamp, DAC As another data point, I ran my Pass Labs DAC (about 1.8V max output unbalanced) into my SIT-2 (18db gain) into 94db efficent speakers with no gain issues whatsoever. As I type I am running the same DAC with the volume at about 1:00 (so roughly...
First Watt F8, passive preamp, DAC The J2 would be a better option because it has balanced inputs, and if you run balanced interconnects from your DS DAC you will double the output voltage to 2.8V. |
