Whats playing on your system today?
A few that stood out for me today: Charlie Robinson, "Good Times" https://youtu.be/u-Kc0Gd4IWY Rusty Truck, "Cold Ground" https://youtu.be/rdbw_odu9XU Eagles of Death Metal, "I Want You So Hard ( Boy's Bad News) https://youtu.be/TiatPo4qZNw N |
Joan Osborne: Bring It On Home, and Songs Of Bob Dylan. Bring It On Home is pretty good (her and her band's take on Slim Harpo's "Shake You Hips" is fantastic! Another great recording of the song is on Lou Ann Barton's Read My Lips album), Songs Of Bob Dylan is, imo, not. His kind of songs are just not her forte'. There's no depth to the interpretation, the lyrics don't seem to have any meaning to her (though I'm sure they do). Still love ya, Joan! |
Loved the groove on Space Junk. It also reminded me of something... Strange Groove from World Party's (Karl Wallinger's) Egyptology. "Just a piece of rock in heaven Moving 'round the sky To a strange groove...." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkS0Ha4MVE8&frags=pl%2Cwn I'm thinking Karl was channeling a little Wang Chung for this track. |
ghosthouse, Great track! Just what the Dr. ordered. Diggin The Nines. Good ole Rock n Roll. Stumbled across this one a few days ago. It's stuck in my head for some reason. "Space Junk" https://youtu.be/VHxUIIAFDqM N |
The Nines - self-titled Heard it courtesy of Spotify. VERY difficult to find a copy for purchase, but finally did (CD Baby? Digital download but only MP3 if I recall). Track 1 is "Sun Don’t Shine". Accept no substitutes. This is a Steve Eggers album. Wish the drummer were a little more on top of the beat (or even a little ahead) and sound quality ain’t exactly odd-ee-o-file BUT great garage rock...good vocals, strong songs, great guitar riffs and excellent screaming. It’s been that kind of a month. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GU-PxCIucrA&frags=pl%2Cwn |

The Band---The Making of "Rockin' Chair" & Commentary on Vocals. Producer John Simon and Levon Helm sit at a mixing console, bringing up faders to demonstrate the incredible vocal arrangement and performance of the song. Comments on The Band's vocals provided by George Harrison and Bernie Taupin. Do yourself a huge favor and watch the video on You Tube. |
CAB (Dennis Chambers, Tony MacAlpine, & Bunny Brunel) - their first. Track 5, One for Stern: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMnOB5vLUTw Noteworthy "guest musician" - Brian Auger. |
