Whats playing on your system today?

Today I decided to listen to two of my favorite rock guitar heros and one great vocalist. Guitarist' Robin Trower, Ronnie Montrose and vocalist Davey Pattison.

I listened to Trower songs:
Bridge of sighs, Stitch in time, The fool and me, my personal favorite- Too rolling stoned and others.....

Then I pulled out "Gamma".
I listened to: Razor King, Wish I was and Skin and bone and others.....

Davey Pattison hooked has also up with Michael Shenker also. I really enjoyed my day so far. Anybody else heard anything good?

Yngwie Malmsteen-The Collection(CD Polydor 849 271-2 1991) A shredding start to another vinyl night.

For Earth Below - Robin Trower.  50th anniversary edition.  Saw him live for the first time this weekend.  Still rocking at 80!

John Gorka-Writing In The Margins(CD 2006) A laid back start on a possibly stormy Friday night vinyl session.

Diana Krall….rotating  through her stable of cd’s, and comparing the audio performance directly against the hi-def streaming versions on QOBUZ.,

IMO it’s an interesting bake-off between a very high-end cdp/dac ( REGA ISIS VALVE cdp/dac) against a quality build and performance from a high-end MOON MIND2 network player/streamer/ dac

The wild card ad-hoc influencers:

- the quality of the recording digital actual mastering , or remastering. That in turn has three subsets therein:

(a) Think skill of the engineer in recording /re-mastering the digital files and cd.

-(b) XRCD silver disks versions are a step-up from the usual red book cd version

- (c) Generally BUT not exclusively , 24/192 streamed files will generally best most 16/44 digital streamed files,….with reference to the points above

(d) the high-end dac in my REGA playing cd’s (especially XRCD) can frequently better the 24/192 streamed version….with reference to the points above .

Sounds like an awesome way to spend the day. Trower and Montrose are both absolute legends and Davey Pattison's voice is so underrated. Too Rolling Stoned is a classic and that groove never gets old. I haven't listened to Gamma in a while but now you're making me want to dig back into those albums. Lately I've been on a bit of a UFO and early Scorpions kick so hearing that Pattison worked with Schenker makes me want to check out those collaborations too. Thanks for the inspiration and great picks.

Nightwish - Highest Hopes - The Best of Nightwish.

They do a cool version of Walking in the Air..

Nemo is another really cool song.

It's rock, but different.

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here.  It’s the 50th anniversary.  50 years of musical bliss.

The Smile boxset. Smile not being completed and released in 1967 as originally planned is one of the great tragedies in the history of Pop music. To read about the album as it was being recorded, pick up a copy of the book Outlaw Blues by Paul Williams. It contains the material Williams wrote about the album's recording and published in Crawdaddy Magazine at the time.

Jeff Beck - Live in The Cage 1980.  Audience recording of a show I saw live.

Arcadi Volodos-Piano Transcriptions(Sony SK 62691 CD 1997) A brilliant segue to Sunday night vinyl.

Walk This Road -  new Doobie Bothers album.  Great to hear the old gang back together.

Full Sail by Loggins and Messina from 1972! Real music, not synthesized like you hear so much of today. I heard it in 1972 but not on high end gear. Especially like the track “Medley: You Need A Man…” I like the use of horns ie sax. Check it out. I’m streaming Qobuz but am looking for a quality vinyl.
