Whats playing on your system today?

Today I decided to listen to two of my favorite rock guitar heros and one great vocalist. Guitarist' Robin Trower, Ronnie Montrose and vocalist Davey Pattison.

I listened to Trower songs:
Bridge of sighs, Stitch in time, The fool and me, my personal favorite- Too rolling stoned and others.....

Then I pulled out "Gamma".
I listened to: Razor King, Wish I was and Skin and bone and others.....

Davey Pattison hooked has also up with Michael Shenker also. I really enjoyed my day so far. Anybody else heard anything good?

@drhamp  - Welcome to the "Whats playing on your system today?" thread. Keep 'em coming....
@bob540  - I love "Closer to it" and listen to it fairly often. Really good stuff......
I went on a Robin Trower bing a few weeks ago. Whipped out all my old vinyl that I kept from back in my high school and college days. Long Misty Days is my fave.........
BTW, tonight I listened mostly to Radio Paradise. They had a very good evening set going. What a great (internet) radio station.......

Nutty,

I was just looking at UFO records at my local shop this weekend. I was a big fan back in the day. One of my collage roommates had Lights Out and Obsession and we rocked out to both of them fairly often.

I'll pcik up both of them when I find decent copies at a fair price.

Nutty,

Did you see Steve Earle at the Madison Theater in Covington back in November? Great show! He's going to be in Dayton at Fraze Pavilion in August. Tics go on sale Saturday morning.

nutty,

I thought I was the only person on this side of the pond that listened to Budgie. I've got 3 or 4 of there records. Great stuff. Ahead of there time by a few years, I think. Early prog IMHO. U in Cinci? If you want to sample a few of their CD,s let me know.

BTW, Lucinda Williams is at the 20th Century next Tuesday. I'll be there....

Listening to all vinyl tonight. Pulling out some stuff I haven't listed to in years and a couple of regulars.....

Carlos Santana and Mahavishnu John McLaughlin - Love Devotion Surrender
Iron Butterfly - In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida
Joe Jackson - Night and Day

Bruce Cockburn - Stealing Fire, World of Wonder

Right now I'm listening to The Doobie Brothers - What Were Once Habits are now Vices on Vinyl (as it was meant to be!). Eyes of Silver is sounding great!
Talking Heads - Fear of Music

Todd Rundgren - Something / Anything

Both on vinyl, as they were meant to be heard........

Jeff Beck - Loud Hailer (LP) - Holy cow! My favorite new record from the last several years. Who knew "they" could still make a record like this?....
Robin Trower - Long Misty Days (LP) Lunchtime Jams!

Listend to Jeff Beck - Loud Hailer (LP) again this morning. I'm still in shock over how much I enjoy this record for a 2016 offering. I don't recall hearing anything new I like better over the last few years. I think it's a great mix of classic and contemporary rock, blues rock and good songwriting. Throw in a big dose of protest and politics and it makes for a great listening session. Oh, did I mention the huge wall of sound? Will make your system sound BIG!
OK, one more lunchtime record.......

The Doobie Brothers - Toulouse Street (LP) Fantastic record......

Now back to work.......
Tonight's lineup:

Joni Mitchell - Blue (LP)

Queen - A Night at the Opera (LP)

The Doobie Brothers - The Captain and Me (LP)
Pulled out a couple of LPs from my high school days......

Dixie Dreg - What if? (LP)

Kansas -Leftoverture (LP)
Red House Painters - Songs for a Blue Guitar (re-issue Double LP)

Make Like Paper is killer........
It's live music Wednesday at the Reubent house.

Band of Horses - Acoustic at the Ryman

And one of the most amazing recordings in my collection:

Chip Taylor and Carrie Rodriguez - Live From the Ruhr Triennale.

If you don't have this Chip Taylor and Carrie Rodriguez recording, you need it. A truly inspired performance and a great sounding recording....

Tab Benoit - "Nice and Warm"  The title track is one of my blues favorites.
Nutty,

The Tubes - What do You Want from Live is one of my favorites. Love it. Those guys were definitely on top of their game at the time of that recording. That was a band that knew how to put on a show! And the musicianship is outstanding...
Leon Bridges - Coming Home (180G vinyl LP)

The video for "River", from this album, is moving. Give it a look........

The Alarm - Standards

Seriously underrated band IMHO. Listen to this "greatest hits" record and try not to tap your foot, bob your head, sing OUT LOUD and thrust a fist into the air. I dare you.....

Jimbo Mathus & the Tri-State Coalition -White Buffalo

Jimbo Mathus & the Tri-State Coalition - Dark Night of the Soul

Man, I love me some Jimbo Mathus. Authentic. That's the first word that comes to mind when I hear him. Oxford, Mississippi and proud of it....

Adrian Belew - "Here", Received as a birthday present today. Really great record.....
"Knockin' on Heaven's Door" -Bob Dylan

"Changes" - David Bowie

"I'm the Man" - Joe Jackson
Been listening to music through the new Raspberry Pi music server/streamer I set up today. Been listening to Radio Paradise stream and stuff from my old iTunes library. Last song up:

"Dirty Life and Times" from Warren Zevon's - The Wind
donjr,

I love "The Hurting" by Tears for Fears. It's all excellent, but "Memories Fade" is probably my favorite track on the album.
Hey Nutty,

What a coincidence. I just finished listening to "Squawk" from Budgie tonight. I wonder if we're the only two people in Cincinnati who listened to Budgie tonight?

BTW, I like "Napoleon Bona - Part II" too....

I have to give a shout out to my Sister Debby for my love of Budgie. I found an 8-Track of Squawk in her car in about 1975 and I've been listening to them ever since. RIP sweetie. I miss you.........

Nutty - Rare Earth.... Nice! One of my favorites. I've got a couple of copies of Get Ready, a nice copy of Ecology and a killer copy of Rare Earth Live in the Backpack Double LP cover. Great stuff.......

TIC
Bettye LaVette is Bad A$$ and that's all I got to say about that......

I'll let her speak for herself. Try this one - Joan Armatrading's "Down to Zero"

Had Music Club with my buddies this evening. Too many good tunes to mention, but closed with "Natural Beauty" from Neil Young's Harvest Moon. What a song. Great way to end an evening.......
Hey Nutty,

I haven't heard Blood, Sweat and Tears S/T in years. Saw your post and went to eBay and bought what looked like a good original first pressing for $6.00. Got it today and spun it up on the trust TT and it was awesome! Big, full sound. Love it. Thanks for the recommendation.....

@nutty  - I'm a big fan of Crack the Sky. In 1978-82, my college roommate was from Weirton, West Virginia where CTS originated. He brought all his LPs to our apt. Loved them ever since...

Nutty, Arcam88,

Funny you should mention J Geils Band. Last week I just received a really nice copy of the double live LP "Blow Your Face Out". Great stuff. House Rockin......
I’m listening to Radio Paradise (again!) tonight. Honestly, if broadcast radio was this good, I’d have to get a tuner again. Do you guys listen to RP internet radio? It’s friggin’ awesome IMHO. I have my little Raspberry Pi music streamer/renderer playing it at low volume 24X7 in my basement listing room. I’ll drop in at 7am, lunch, after work and late at night just to hear what they are playing. I absolutely love their eclectic mix.

BTW, playing right now of RP - THE classic screamin’ guitar jam - "Big Country".

@ghosthouse - Radio Paradise doesn't really have on-air personalities or much commentary. It does have the owners - Bill and Rebecca Goldsmith, who personally curate the music and provide a bit of commentary.Bill was a radio DJ for many years, and a radio station manager. He has a great voice for radio and a very soothing delivery.

What it does offer is an eclectic mix of rock, folk, singer/songwriter, alt-country, Americana, pop, jazz and classical music. They do an excellent job of transitioning from one song, to the next. Sometimes the music flows for hours on end.

I too miss the great radio stations of the past. Radio Paradise fills the void. And then some......
Hey Nutty,

Have you heard Trixie Whitley with the band Black Dub? Black Dub is an excellent album IMHO.

So, I'll see you your Trixie Whitley and raise you a Holly Smith.........
