Replace tubes yearly?
Ah, now I remember. Thanks.
Replace tubes yearly?
Side question: When I look down into my AR LS-16 pre, each tube has a rubber collar around it. I don't see those on tubes that are for sale. Is this just something for handling purposes?
Replace tubes yearly?
As OP I have nothing to add to the great technical advice given in this thread. I do wish I could remember which Audiogon member sent me those tubes a few years ago. It was a very gracious, and trusting, thing to do for someone he’d never met any...
Replace tubes yearly?
@rar1 Okay, this is what you posted: "Some folks rush to opine, some rush to smear, some rush to offer conspiracy theories, but no one rushes to go back to what Paul actually said." So that's not smug? Whatever. I went back to what Paul actuall...
Replace tubes yearly?
@rar1 This is exactly what Paul said: "Honestly, if you have tube equipment you’re used to replacing the tubes. I do it every year [gesturing toward his equipment], you know, you just have to. That’s kind of a given when you have vacuum tubes." ...
Replace tubes yearly?
Thanks @oberoniaomnia  I was glad that I was able to hear the difference between tubes but disappointed that I didn't find the pricier replacement ones to sound a lot better. I do not even remember which tube I tried and I don't know what is in t...
Replace tubes yearly?
Just looked at my LS-16 manual. It says it is fine to leave it on all the time but that it may shorten tube life. Also, I have an exhaust fan on the LS-16 and two on my amp. Amp is solid state. Both are in an open front enclosure with decent vent...
Replace tubes yearly?
Thanks guys. @oberoniaomnia If tube rolling just means trying different tubes I did that once. As mentioned, even with my not-so-golden ears there was a distinct difference in the sound. But I was very hard pressed to say that I liked one better ...
Vintage Audio Research subwoofer connect.
Thanks @docknow . I have pretty much decided not to add a subwoofer to this system. After suppressing the urge to fix a problem that probably isn't there I have done  some critical listening and really don't think I even need one. Thanks to all w...
Where are the front men? (Rant)
As Nietzsche said- The Guitar God is Dead. As Gary Clark, Jr. said- Nietzsche is dead.
Where are the front men? (Rant)
@slaw Thanks. I will look into those. @bgross Leon Bridges blew me away with his first album. Just amazing. Have not enjoyed his follow up albums. I do love his work with Khruangbin. I have not listened to JJ Grey in a long time. Seems like he wa...
Where are the front men? (Rant)
@stuartk That is not the way I took it. He did make a generalization about a lot of the material that female vocalists sing but then he goes on to list a number of female vocalists that he likes. So it doesn't seem to me that he is saying that abo...
Vintage Audio Research subwoofer connect.
@whart Thanks. That is very helpful. In all probability I am not going to put a sub or subs in this system but I just wanted to look into feasibility. It is in a fairly small room and the Aerial Acoustics 7Bs seem pretty solid in terms of bass to ...
Where are the front men? (Rant)
@slaw Thanks. I am familiar with Marcus King. He's okay for me. I have all of the Teskey Brothers albums. Love them. I have several Amos Lee albums. Also have a few Black Keys albums. I am mostly interested in their blues stuff which is excellent....
Where are the front men? (Rant)
@stuartk Gave it a brief listen. I like what I’m hearing. Will dig deeper. @acman3 I’ve listened to Jason Isbell a little bit and for some reason he just hasn’t hooked me in. Are their songs you particularly like? I'll give them a listen. But th...
