What’s a 10k to 15k speaker from smaller company that performs well?

In that price range, the Charney speakers, particularly with 8" drivers (there are many options), are a screaming bargain.  They are also extremely efficient and can be used with low-powered amps (the best sounding amps are low-powered, regardless of price).  Push the budget a little more, and the AER bd 3 8" driver becomes an option; I heard a Charney with that speaker and could not believe how good it sounded--dynamic, exciting, harmonically rich and saturated, coherent from top to bottom and free from most "nasties" (excessive sibilance, graininess, etc.).

I cannot begin to emphasize how important high efficiency is to overall sonic performance.  High efficiency makes use of low-powered tube amps possible.  Most of the very best amps are single ended triode or low-powered pentodes or medium powered output transformerless tube amps.  I particularly dislike most high powered tube amps that use a large array of tubes such as KT88, KT120 and KT150s; the smaller cousins of these amps sound so much better, but cannot put out much juice.  Most of the high powered solid state amps sound decent, these days, but, they sound just a touch lifeless when playing at reasonable volume levels, and for some reason, I don't get as engaged in listening with these amps.  There are some low-powered solid state amps that sound decent, such as the various First Watt amps.  

Roger that larryi. I heard the Charney's at CAF (with the high end AER driver) and they sounded very promising. Wonderfully present, quick and coherent. Another high efficiency brand to consider is Daedalus Audio. Paired with an LTA Ultralinear they produce some of the best sound I've heard. Daedalus has several models that can be had in your price range. They are handcrafted, artisan loudspeakers that perform at the highest level.

Yes, Daedalus is one of the obvious recommendations.  Also take a look at Chapman Audio.

Legacy Audio Aeris (when bought used), or the Legacy Audio Focus XD, or SE.  

Or, the dc10Audio / Viking Acoustics Berlin R monitors.

They're $6495, but after six months, I'm still happy with Sonist Concerto 4 Gen 2.  Solid wood, high WAF, very efficient, 27hz-45khz, great soundstage, very transparent without being edgy.  What's not to like? I had 10k budgetted, so used the savings to justfy a magical tube amp.  I added 3rd party jumpers and feet.  Hard to audition.

I second the TAD ME-1. I just picked up a demo pair at CAF. They are spectacular. The biggest deepest bass in a smallish cabinet.

Every blind test I’ve seen them been included in had them winning. Their cabinets are also gorgeous and custom, but have long wait times as such.

I don't know if it's a small manufacturer, but you really can't go wrong with Harbeth.  I have the SHL5+ and they are stunning.  My room is too small for the 40.2s, but they are even more impressive (in the right room).

As an aside, I recently added the SOtM Duo bridge and word clock to my system powered by an Illuminati DC supply.  I would not have thought the Harbeths could get any more detailed, but what an improvement!

@calvinj With Salk you'll come in under 10K.  The Song3 BEAT or Song3 Encore fit your needs.

Salk Exotica 3's fit the limits stated.
I really like the Song 3A version for around $6kish.
I've owned about 6 pairs of Salks and you cannot go wrong.

With that budget, you should be looking at a real state of the art speaker, such as anything from Bang & Olufsen. Not another tired passive with an MDF box.

Aerial 7T around 11K.

A Small manufacturer in this price bracket that seduced me: Boenicke. The Boenicke W8 or W11 are sublime. Hand made in Switzerland out of solid wood. The most musical, airy, holographicl speakers I have ever heard.

RBH Sound is one of the best kept secrets in high end audio. At each price point RBH is the most honestly designed and built speaker you can find. Also check out their Status Acoustic line. Ditto Daedalus and Chapman. These are both artisanal product lines available from long-established designers. Both Lou Hinckley of Daedalus and Stuart Jones of Chapman are likable and freely available by phone. The factory-direct pricing model is reasonable.

You should have come over on Oct 20th and heard the Rosso Fiorentino Volterra Calvin.  The little brother Fiesole went home with someone and the Volterra sold a week later.  I've still got the Siena on demo.

I know how much you like older Sonus Faber and the Rosso Fiorentino gear has been compared favorably, but I much prefer the RF sound.  RF is not a 'small' company, but they haven't saturated the US market yet.

I recently listened to the Legacy Signature SE and really wasn't impressed with them. They did all the audiophile stuff - sparkly highs, OK mids and lots of bass-  but I thought they were unrefined and coarse -- just my opinion. 

Kharma, Lansche both used. Not sure how small they are, though.

Well, not sure about "smaller" but I'm a big fan of Monitor Audio and some (not all) magico in that price range.

I really am a big fan of Fritz in terms of a nearly one person shop. Top end parts in very reasonable priced configurations.

Legacy Aeris (used) with Wavelet or Focus SE or XD (semi-active uses Wavelet) are worthy contenders and are at a whole different level of play compared to Signature SE.

Agree with others who have named Joseph Audio, Daedalus and Rosso Fiorentino (Siena is an amazing speaker and worth the stretch). Eggleston Works Andra III or Savoy SE (used at a bit higher price) are also extremely worthy of note....
