AUDIO SHOWS! WHAT would you like to see more of there. Better brands, hours etc? I can only attend on Sundays. I know the reps and everyone go out and tie one on Saturday night, but I wish they would actually open at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, and stay open until 6:00, instead of 10:00-4:00 (with many vendors not even showing up un...
Has anyone switched from Class AB/A to Class D? Was it better? Was it worse? In my case, better. After the second repair of my 65 lb. Odyssey Stratos amp, which required lugging it to and from shipping facilities, I gave up after it failed a third time. I was determined to find something powerful, yet much lighter. My s...
New split AC System impact on sound. I have a Trane Heat Pump, variable speed, for about 10 years now. Whisper quiet, heats, cools and dries very well.
George Kaye His Moscode hybrid amps were among the best I ever heard. RIP, George.
Anyone dislike Ohm Walsh speakers? @stringreen : "200 watts to make ’em sing, 201 to blow ’em up!". That was the refrain back in the day.
Tube Pre/ Class D Amp - Who has done it? I have been running a McIntosh C220 pre (actually a tube hybrid) with an Arion Audio S-500 class D amp for almost 6 years now. Very happy with the synergy. I get a touch of tube warmth (with Mullard reproduction tubes) and plenty of clean, detai...
Anyone dislike Ohm Walsh speakers? @livinon2wheels ... I agree on q.c. issue. My early production 2000s had some issues with the finishing, and the caps had places where the staples under the grill cloth were pushing the cloth out in bumps. I mentioned this to John. He offered t...
Anyone dislike Ohm Walsh speakers? @livinon2wheels Well, you own them, so I guess you have formed your own opinion, but my 2000s also serve as the mains in my 2 channel/7.1 surround home theater. Whether in stereo or MCH, I don't feel the 2000s lack the ability to correctly place...
Anyone dislike Ohm Walsh speakers? @livinon2wheels If I might throw my 2¢ in here, Ohm Walsh speakers are a bit unique when it comes to scaling of different models. As John Strohbeen used to say, all of them sound essentially the same. The differences are based on output required...
Marianne Faithfull Age 78. She was one of those timeless artists that you thought would always be around. RIP, Ms. Faithful.
HumminGuru vs.Degritter @johnss I hadn't considered that. Have you, or anyone, had one of these cavitation cleaners fail? If so, what was the manufacturer's support like?
HumminGuru vs.Degritter @rvpiano Why not keep the Humminguru and invest in a Sugarcube from Sweetvinyl? I bought one when it was a beta product being crowd funded, and I have been thrilled with it. To my ears, the processing does not degrade the sound at all. It effec...
Vacuum Tube Preamp for Solid State Power Amp Pairing I might get attacked for this, but I am very happy with my McIntosh C220 tube (actually a hybrid design) preamp paired with my Arion Audio S500 class D amplifier. McIntosh has its fans and it's detractors, but I love the thing. One great quality...
Do I need new tubes? FWIW, I am running Mullard reissues in my McIntosh C220 for over 10 years with no issues. I run it about 20 hours a week, so that's about 10,000 hours so far. Tubes tested strong a few years back when the preamp was sent to Audio Classics for a ...
How do you decide what to listen to? Same old stuff? For Internet radio, I love Sheena's Jungle Room, a stream from WFMU. Great variety, many obscure, funny, or outrageous tunes. You will want to have Shazam open whenever you listen. |
