What are the top 3 dream speakers you wanna buy next regardless of price?

Assuming cost no object, equipment matching no issue, wife no opinion, what are the top 3 dream speakers you wanna own and what is (are) your current speaker(s)?

Don’t worry about being the best ... nor most expensive ... they could be something you’ve never tried yet, and you feel intensely curious about...

(if you feel you already own your dream speakers, just state so, for our education?)

6 months ago I was able to buy a great sounding used pair of Vapor Audio Joule Black speakers due to a veneering defect in manufacture that allowed me to get this awesome pair for about 28% of the list price. These have been my take to an island set of speakers since I first heard them 5 years ago at Axpona, They do everything well and have no weaknesses at all.

Sanders 10e ESL speakers that come with most of the electronics when you buy from them is another of the island speakers that I love.

Revelation speakers from Aether Audio would be my choice for fun in a near live sounding speaker with virtually unlimited dynamics and volume headroom possibilities, that still sound very detailed and cohesive. They have been out of business for a few years but are scheduled to start up again before the end of this year.

Sure is. But $4-$5 for a cup of good coffee in NYC is what ? Do the math, if you want to drink it five times a week. And those $100 per month cable bills along with over $100 phone bills.
Compared to many things excellent audio system while expensive is not too bad. For my place this would be $25k speakers new and if I decided to go with used for the same amount, well, I would figure it out. You don't want to overwhelm your room, that's for sure.
"...get something modest and decent for $25k-$50k"
As much as I completely understand and agree with the above comment, I cannot but notice what a spoiled hobby this is. $25 000 - 50 000 is a lots of money.
Likely speakier I will move to will be Aerial Acoustics 7T.

Speakers I have heard in person that I think are wonderful would be B&W 800 D3 so maybe down the road when the used cost come down.

If I’m dreaming too many to name and honestly have not heard in person so why bother but I would love to hear the MBL’s as mentioned by others. Heard many Wilson’s, the Magnepan 30’s and on down and a lot of other exotic speakers but never had the pleasure of hearing the MBL’s; the looks alone makes me want them.

Years ago It would have been a pair of Proac Response 5’s. Yeah, I’d probably take those today still.
Assuming that I don’t have a new apartment to fit a pair of Wilson Alexx or Avantgarde Trios with a couple pairs of bass bins, I’d probably get Wilson Alexia 2. And I even that might be too big for my room..

I may seriously buy this speaker late this year though 🙂
Newest multi-panel Magnepan
Newest one panel Magnepan
Newest surround-sound Magnepan

I prefer speakers that reproduce music accurately.

If I wanted rock, I would buy 10 Marshall tube amp stacks and call it a day...that's all your are hearing anyway, so...
Livin Voice Vox Olympian, Vox Elysian       GIP-9900.                                                        Shindo Latour and Drivers Field Coild
Frankly, however, I would not buy any of those. This is all utopia, there are no realistically sounding speakers. There are many problems in the way of achieving it and the first one is signal conversion. We hear electricity imitating reality, sometimes pretty good. But it's imitation, it's not a reality.
Save your money, get something modest and decent for $25k-$50k depending on room size and music preferences and call it a day.
There are better ways of wasting financial resources.

@inna Of course it is fine with much cheaper systems. I can't afford any of the speakers mentioned in this thread right now (or I don't want to put all my money on that). That doesn't mean it is wrong to dream about them.

Regarding that it is not reality, that is true but I can't get all musicians and bands I like to play at my house whenever I want so I will have to keep living with this imitation. And getting that imitation better and better is something I would like.
I really wanted the tannoy Arden Legacy and then I went and got them ...... organic music I wanted ..... makes me hanker for Westminsters but would need the stately home to match them properly.

are we talking about speakrs that we could realistically get within our income bracket or are we just fantasizing?

If I win big lottery, then I will buy

1. Western vintage big horn system
https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipMtNSB4H5MbCvLRW_yUOEOl3WRBxcf--Jdo_iBJFwEeTH1i-rg4WsWWn5tp03-W...

The cost will be around 300K$.

2. Alsyvox planars
which is similar to Apogee planar speakers that I had used from 1989 to 1999.

Speakers cost around 80K$ and matching amplifier 20K$.

3. JBL DD67000

which has unlimited dynamics.

Speakers cost around 40K$ and I can use my current SET amplifier with its high efficiency.

Actually, I can afford this without winning lottery but I need permission from my wife to use living room as second listening space for this big speaker.

But without wining lottery I am happy with my current speaker of Lansche 4.1 driven by Line Magnetic 508 SET or Silbatone 300B SET.

http://stereotimes.com/speak112410.shtml

My current system is more musical than most systems that I had heard at many audio shows.

My Gryphon Kodo will blow all the others away, literally, including MBLs.
I am glad one more poster mentioned Kharma Exquisite. This would in fact be my normal choice. With Studer deck and Lamm power amps this should do it.

1. Kyron Audio Gaia

2. Wilson Audio WAMM Master Chronosonic

Mmmm, a third pick ?... I like the idea of the MBLs but no,

3. Kyron Audio Phoenix

Or maybe the MBL 101 extreme Radialstrahler. Never  auditioned a pair but would like to .
  • Legacy Valor
  • MBL 101 E MK II
  • Tannoy Westminster Royal Gold Reference
All very different but oh what fun to try them all!
Dream speakers are Raidho D-3.1's, matched with a pair of JL Audio Fathom F112v2's.  That or Magico M3's or Rockport Atria II's.  My current speakers are Raidho XT-2's, matched with a pair of JL Audio E-110's.  Dream on!
Since I have 2 systems, the Rockport Lyra for my main rig and the MBL101e for my office system.  I also would want a pair of the new JBL L100 with stands to just fool around with  low wattage amps.
Apogee Duetta Ultimates or
Apogee Diva Ultimates by True Sound Works (or by one of the other Graz trained/supplied rebuilders/updaters). I plan to one day upgrade my Duetta Signature Series IIs to Ultimates. I’ve been hooked to the magnetostatic speaker sound since the 90’s.

Wilson Alexandria
Kharma Exquisite
Dunlavy SC-IVa with crossovers tuned to +- 1 db
Most important: 50 X 100 foot listening room with 20 foot ceiling.

1,  Martin Logan Statement 2

2.  Goldmund Apolouge

3.  Vandersteen 7, Martin Logan Neolith and many many others.

enjoy

Really only two.
YG Acoustics Sonja XV
or,  YG Acoustics  Sonja XV Jr.
I own Anat 3 signature that are upgraded to Sonja 1.2 now.

Volti Audio :: the Vittora system

Current manufacturer-direct price for a set of Vittora speakers is $25,750.00.

This includes two bass horns, two tophat mid/tweeter horn cabinets, and one ELF cabinet.

Second ELF Cabinet, purchased with the Vittora system $3,500

This would be my choice..!!!

At right about $30,000 , this system is not un-touchable..

But only something I can only daydream about..

One pair for each listening room.
1. JM Labs Grand Utopia
2. Kharma Exquisite
3. Gryphon Audio Kodo.
If choosing one..hmm..Gryphon.
I have a small room, so a pair of MBL 126's for me.
Or, Vandy Quatro CT's.
Possibly a pair of small Sound Lab speakers.
Bob
@tomic601, the fan is the easy part. Getting it to spin at the correct speed in response to frequency is a bit trickier! Then there is the matter of the fan blades spinning around their axis'. Bruce Thigpen is a REAL smart guy.
while I have and love Vandersteen 7 MK2 ( and his amps...I think your discussion sort of incomplete without nailing down amps...but no matter )... and there is a rear firing tweeter for certain source material lacking spatial cues, the big MBL 101 in a massive room driven by the magical refrigerator sized AMS-100 amp certainly can be intoxicating.......

Eric - you keep mentioning the mythical rotary sub, lets get drawings / permission from Bruce to build one...what is the fan diameter ?

I like the three I currently have (Vandersteen 5A, Von Schweikert UniField 3 Mk2, new JBL L100 Classic).  I would listen to Vandersteen 7s.  Also Focal.
MBL Radialstrahler mbl 101 E MK II with full MBL electronics.
Why? I have no idea!!!!!
