I have actually tried the Black Diamond Racing cones and they definitely added too much hardness in my system at the time.
Tbg, a Teddycap is an external power supply for the Naim XS preamp section. I am still experimenting with footers. After trying the racket balls under the Powercell I am now trying the much smaller squash balls under my Naim XS. I can't believe the transformation in sound. Much more air, wider and deeper with more texture. However, like you mentioned Tbg the bass is noticeably softer. Keep in mind I have a lead shot loaded metal frame with fairly thick glass.
So, now I am really curious about mixing components with either Ginko footers and Migs.
Has anyone noticed any added hardness to their system with the Migs? I would think that glass would be more susceptible. |
Tbg, No they are black , tall and sharp. |
Scottmac62, I cannot generalize at all, but my amp is on a glass Mana shelf on a StillPoints component stand. Until I got my MIGs, the amp had just been on the StillPoints stand. It took me a long time to decide that the pin-point pattern with the MIGs was better. This is with all other components with ambient pattern. Once the MIGs settled in and I had adjusted the H-Cat WTC to +8, I had an excellent, precise soundstage, deep bass, and accurate timbre for all instruments.
Personally, I don't like soft isolation materials. I certainly have heard very hard metal points glare and be very hard and brass ones sound very smeared and and lacking in dynamics.
All that I recommend is trial and error. |
Got 3 more sets of MiG's today. Ambient is not for me. Pin-point configuration all the way. Under cdp, preamp, amp, and powercell se on 1/4" thick glass shelves. |
Airportsyndrome, can you tell us the differences you heard between the two. Did you experience any hardness to the sound? |
Scottmac,
The ambient setting was a more relaxed sound with less harshness. But the music sounded somewhat fake. I had a hard time localizing the instruments and singers.
Pin-point on the other hand had a more organic sound. More precise imaging of instruments and a more "you are there" soundstage.
I tried different combinations ambient vs. pinpoint but my ears lean towards pin-point for all components. |
Adweigert and Audiofeil,
I have a 10 SE and ended up using the Alan Maher units with it for best results. Actually, the results are outstanding.
I did remove other AC tweeks such as the Quantum Symphony, Tice Line enhancer and some Quartz filled boxes.
The Quartz filled boxes did the least harm, of the ones I mentioned, and actually improve the sound when placed in the breaker box, or more correctly, the Service panel. Around the components, I prefer not to have them. One Acoustic Revive product, I am not sure about. It is the wood cable elevator, which is "mineral filled". I don't know if the minerals contain quartz.
Anyway, I do find that using all one brand of product, or "loom", gets the dummies buying and selling fast. The truth is, and this is intelligent common sense, some products are compatible and some are not.
Almost all of the products available to us have roots to Tesla, Faraday, Kettering and other inventors. All of our components, automobiles, and appliances, are a mixture of these technologies.
The Powercell, Alan Maher products, and some Lessloss products happen to be some of the very outstanding ones.
I plan on trying the Interconnect Cells next, then the Speaker Cells. |
Has anyone plugged a subwoofer into a Powercell??? If so, what results were noticed???
Regards Bacardi |
Bacardi, Yes I have plugged a Fathom F113 into the Powercell. I have recently though moved the sub to an unused dedicated outlet. I have also moved my Power Amp to another unused dedicated outlet. Both of these outlets have Teslaplex outlets and Hologram A Power cords
Though the Powercell can handle everything I own including all my home theater equipment. I feel that the two largest current draws I have are still better on there own dedicated outlets. Afterall using everything on just one outlet which is only 20 Amps there could be the possiblity of limiting the dynamics.
This then leaves the Powercell on its own dedicated outlet to power my CD, Preamp, CDR, and the Home theater equipment. |
"Has anyone plugged a subwoofer into a Powercell??? If so, what results were noticed???"
Yup. Tighter bass and the sub seems to disappear more. |
Rilbr, I also have and still have many Acoustic Revive units. I had an AR RTP-6 when I bought my PowerCell 10SE. When it arrived I merely moved all six powercords from the RTP-6 and plugged them into the PowerCell. I should say that the RTP-6 had replaced my much more expensive IsoClean isolation transformer system. What I still remember was that the PowerCell was more open, dynamic, and had strikingly better bass. I should also say that the power cords were a mix of Isoclean and Cerious Technology and not SR.
I have never tried the Alan Maher unit.
My experience with AR quartz has been very confusing. I remember putting a QR-8 in the center of the wall behind my speakers and hearing it as I pressed it on the wall! All of this effect from a pencil eraser size piece of quartz. I had many other experiences were these pieces work quite well, but I have also had really bad experiences, such as putting one on a cd player drawer and totally killing all dynamics in the music and another putting one on my Murata Supertweeters with the same result. And I have had instances were these and the bigger AR quartz units did nothing, such as on the back of or on top some components.
All of this lead me to doing an interview with the Acoustic Revive owners which was to be published on Dagogo but has never appeared. I explored how many of their pieces came about and what the theory behind them was, if any. I don't think any of the inventors you enumerated were the originators of the use of quartz, not of the SR ARTs or MIGs.
I have not tried the Universal Interconnect Cells but Ted urged me to try the Universal Speaker Cells. As he said, once you hear them you will never stand any speaker wires without them. I would reverse your intended ordering. |
Has anyone tried Miggs under a subwoofer or between a subwoofer and a platform. I own a Hifi Pyon Mythology custom platform just for my SVS PB13 Ultra sub with Custom feet under sub and under platform...Curious anyone???
Regards Bacardi |
Rilbr, can you please expand on the Alan Maher product that you are using and what effects you are hearing. |
The Alan Maher items I am using are called CBF . I have 3 of them . One at my Cicuit breaker Main Breaker, one om my dedicated circuit breaker to my Powercell and one over the bottom outlet on my telasplex. The Powercell is plugged into the top. These increase the Blackness and dynamics and improves performance of the powercell.
I also have made several Modified MPC's that I saw on AA. It basically uses 3 High Quality Caps. 2 of the Caps are from Russia. They really bring out the detail. I also have found an easy way to convert this modified MPC to power 4-6 items (Led's). I am trying to figure out how to post pictures. If anyone wants a picture send me an email. |
Rilbr,
Which of Alan's products do you have besides the CBFs on the service panel? And what are their locations?
thanks! |
Shellie & Adweigert (or anyone else) would you mind sharing your opinion of the SR ART Basik. Thanks for the info. :) |
Hey Norm, You had the universal speaker cells in for a while now. Please compare with and with out the cells in detail with your Apex speaker cables. I'm still not sure if I wanna pay another $2,500 if my system sounds exactly the way I like it now.
Thanks! Joe |
Joeybooynj, my impressions are based on my Acapella LaCompanellas and today I got my Tidal Contriva Discera SEs and they will get installed tomorrow. I really want to see what I get with Universal Cells on the Tidals, but I can tell you that I will be unhappy to remove them to listen without. The clarity with them means that you will never remove them. The realism of the sound stage is awesome and the bass is once again better defined.
When you first put them in you will be very impressed but with time and break in you will repeatedly think that something good has happened. I will be further break in and I am still hearing it some three weeks after getting them. |
Thanks TBG, please let me know more about the Universal Cell when you can.
Has anyone else tried the cells? I like my system the way it sounds now. I may demo the cells later this year. As for now, I'm just listening to music and working on my HT system and integrating a Peachtree idecco and Sonos system. |
Wahhoo. Just got my Powercell 10SE. Great so far but waiting till it really warms up. Its been only been a few days. Anyone tell me how long till I see it really fully shine???
Regards Bacardi |
Barcardi, it has been a long time, but I think a week will probably do it. It will probably continue at a slower pace afterwards. I loves being up on MIGs. |
Tbg, thx. Do the miggs raise the powercell high enough so if you wanted to plug Galileo mpc's into the bottom 5 outlets the tails will hang straight? ALSO: have you tried a Galileo mpc on your powercell? What did you notice better/worse?
Regards Bacardi |
Bacardi, No and yes. It was a very nice improvement. |
Just got 3 sets of Migs. At the present time I have them all in the Pinpoint configuration.
I also now have 3 Galileo MPCs that are plugged into my Powercell SE. The MPC mods that I did to the regular MPCs are now coming into there own and it may be a bigger improvement than the Galileo MPC's. |
Ozzy, have you tried a dual Galileo mpc on your Powercell 10SE with the 32 Amp Precision AC. I have 2 dual Galileos and concerned with the effects. Should they be safe to try???
Regards Bacardi |
Bacardi, No prob with a Galileo MPC powering both the PowerCell and its Active PC. Actually this is one of the best places for users with a full Tesla system w PowerCell to try a Galileo MPC.
Yours in music, Ted Denney III Lead Designer, Synergistic Research Inc |
Hi Barcardi, Go back and read the posts on this thread. A lot of your recent questions were previously answered in previous posts by Ted, me and many others that contribute to this thread. |
Thx Joeyboynj. I'll check them out. My question on the miggs for a sub forum wasn't replied to even by Ted D. Anyone?
Regards Bacardi |
Barcardi, I would e-mail/call Ted or Synergistic directly for other MIG recomendations. I dont think anyone has tried MIGs under their subs/speakers. Are you getting any MIGs for your components? Try them under your sub and let us know the results. |
Bacardi, I have not yet tried Mig's under a sub-woofer so I have no practical experience however I cannot think of a reason why this should not offer improvements (under speakers would also be a worthwhile experiment). As you know, Mig's are a brand new product with new applications for their use remaining to be discovered over the coming months; consider yourself a pioneer and please share your findings :)
Yours in music, Ted Denney III Lead Designer, Synergistic Research Inc. |
The Migs are quite interesting.. Under my Preamp and Amp it is a no brainer much better in the Pinpoint Config.
On my Cary 306 Pro CD player though neither position beats just using the Cary Tall machined spikes. Since I now have an extra pair of the Migs I would like to try them on my Powercell. Not sure how I am going to lift it up high enough to clear the Galileos plugged into the back of the Powercell. My choices sem to remove the tall sharp spikes I am presently using and place either myrtle blocks under a Mig or some ceramic tiles under the Mig's. Any other suggestions would be helpful. If this proves to be too much trouble < iw ill use them under my Oppo 83 SE.
Barcardi, I am sure the Migs would improve your sub, but I think you would get more bang for your bucks on your stereo components. Also,to the question on plugging a Galileo into your Powecell. Running the dual leads to the Powercell and Powercord is a must. Think about it everything plugged into the Powercell will benifit by the use of that Galileo.
SR great products. service and helpful Audiogon members. |
|
They look to be about 1 1/4" tall |
I had a shocking experience today. I got a new SR T2 power cord for my new turntable. Of course it is charged and I had only one outlet available into which I plugged the T2 itself. I had a double lead MPC included and figured that I would remove two single lead MPC and install one double lead and thus have an opening for my new MPC.
I doing so I noticed that my preamp T2 was not connected nor was my phono stage. Under the preamp pc connection I found the charger lead. Once I had connected everything, I play vinyl and was in awe, but later listening to digital, I was equally amazed. All that was changed for digital was that the preamp pc was now charged.
There really is something to this charged cable system. |
Cable Company sent my goodies box today. I got the Galileo Speaker and IC cells to go with my Apex speaker cables and IC between my Berkeley DAC to ASR Emitter Exclusive II to Usher Be-20. I am impressed. Granted it has no time to break in yet but after hooking up everything, right away, there seems to be more clarity, bass has better definition and pitch, detail is even better while at the same time, there is no sacrificing of the warmth, rich sound at all. Voice and violin are smoother, more liquid. Background noise is much much reduce (not that it was noisy before but I did not know it could be this quiet).
I got some MIGs for my components and ERS paper for my computer server as well but I think I will wait a few days before installing these toys so I can see the effects of the IC and Speaker Cells first.
My only complains, after being box envy with my friend's MIT stuffs, SR plastic box just does not look quite so impressive :) IC box also is quite light so it would not sit on my shelf behind my DAC with the Apex hanging from it so for now the box is dangling midair. I hope that's ok.
The tails for the speaker cells looks like longer version of SR jumper cables and IC cells tail looks a bit puny next to Apex. So far, my complains have more to do with looks rather than sound which is a good thing, I suppose. |
Suteetat, I just learned that the plastic boxes of the Universal Interconnect Cells are intended to dangle off the shelf. where your preamp is. I had managed to keep them on the shelf, using a heavy Walker weight. I introduced my preamp to amp set first and have now had them on for three days. I was trying to figure out how I was going to put the source to preamp set, when I learned they could dangle, so I have not introduced them yet. SR even suggests that dangling is optimal.
I totally agree with what you hear and would add that bass is much more defined and profound. |
Quick question on speaker cells, each cell has 3 connectors for single, bi and tri-wire, since there is no instruction and no marking on those connectors, can I use any set of connectors for high and low in case of bi-wire or is there any specific order I that I suppose to use. Currently I have low pass connect to the middle connector (let say middle one is No.2 and the other connector is No. 1 and 3). At least on one cell, there was no sound coming out of the tweeters when I had the high pass connect to connector 3 but when connect to No.1, it was working fine. I am not sure if No.3 connector is broken or if I suppose to use connector going from 1 to 2 to 3 for single, bi and tri wire? |
Suteetat, I had assumed that they were all in common. I would call SR. |
Well, I have now put Universal Cells on my speaker wires about a month ago, on my preamp to amp ics about a week ago, and on my digital source to preamp ics, about two hours ago. I had deliberately installed them one by one although Mr. Denney had told me that the completion of the connections would be better than the sum of the individual Cell contributions. But stubborn I am.
I heard a major jump in clarity, ease, bass, top end extension and sweetness when I put on the Universal Speaker Cells. Mr. Denney had said that I would, and he was right.
When I the two sets of Universal Interconnects Cells arrived, I figured that the part for between the preamp and amp would improve all of my inputs, two digital (Mac Server and Exemplar/Oppo 83) and vinyl (Bergman Sindre and Ortofon A-90 cartridge). When I did figure out how to install it with in on the shelf of my rack behind the preamp, it was a nice improvement with all the characteristics listed above.
I have just installed the final set on my digital input. With them hanging down from the preamp. I listened immediately to be sure that all was well. It was. But as I sat there I heard improvements. Before taking off to do some business, I listened to the FIM K2 Sampler focusing on Touch, Pachelbel's Canon in D, and several others in between. Each cut sounded better
On returning I have relistened to many of these cuts and others. It would be hard to overstate what I hear. The clarity, sweetness, ease, bass, and ultimately realism and the overall sense of presence are just amazing. I already know I will need and additional set of source to preamp Universal Interconnect Cells. And these things are not inexpensive, but I may be avoiding a much more expensive amp and preamp. I don't want to think too much about how these would make my system sound with such expensive electronics. My point is merely to suggest the Universal Cells may represent the contributions of much more expensive electronics.
Suteetat, I put the first set into the dangling position and heard no change. |
One weakness in my system in the past was in the bass which I contributed to my Berkeley DAC. I feel that Berkeley tends toward slowish, heavy, fat and less articulate bass at least in comparison to my old Esoteric D05 (although everything else is better, at least in my system). After replacing my Accelerator speaker cables with Apex, the added weight and warmth occasionally was a bit too much of a good thing. After rewiring my Usher Be-20, changed some caps in crossover, bass tightened up quite a bit. However, speaker cells (and most likely IC cells as well) really cleaned up the bass. Recently I had home audition of EMM Lab XDS1 for a week, its bass performance was significantly better than Berkeley but I still prefer Berkeley mid range tonality and overall musicality. However the improvement in bass performance by adding Speaker Cells/IC Cells I think is quite a bit more than EMM Lab offer.
I talked to Cable Company who said that all three output on speaker cells are the same and they will replace the unit with one defective output for me. |
I continues to be impressed by the cells. After a couple of days, I would say speed, clarity, extended bass without becoming lean or sacrificing fullness or sweetness of the sound is the major benefit here. I tried adding some MIGs today, first under my Berkeley DAC then under ASR battery unit for the line level then under the two power supplies. In my setup, pin point configuration seems to be more additive to the benefit of the cells. Voice gains more body, strings gain a touch more bloom and nice decay. Last night I went to see Silk Road Ensemble with Yo Yo Ma. May be it is my imaginating things but today, listening to Bernstein performance of Mahler Symphony No.2, opening movement, I feel that for the first time, I could really hear how the sound resonates from a Cello soundboard/body. The only annoying thing is that brass. Listening to fanfare in Tuba Mirum from Verdi's Requeim seemed bit dull. It seems that at least one ambience configuration either on DAC or ASR battery pack helps quite a bit in this case. However, I am not sure I want to keep flipping MIGs everytime I want to listen to something with trumpet or horn :( and flip it back for everything else! I have not heard any other footer that change the sound this much, be it metal cone, spike, rubber footer, roller ball etc except for perhaps the new Nordost Titanium something or other cone that I heard recently at a demo at a local hifi show. Unfortunately even with special discount at the show, one single cone would buy me a couple sets of MIGs and some change.
I have not try MIGs under ASR unit itself as I am not sure if ASR acrylic chassis would be able to sustain its weight (about 40 something Kgs, I think) on 3 MIGs without breaking. |
Here is a copy of my posting in the Tech Section on the Audio Prism Ground Control units. I thought I would share it with the SR croud since it complements my SR speaker cables so much.
Well I finally had one of the Ground Controls for about a week. I will admit that these little things dont look like much but they do provide a marked sound quality, improvemnent in my system. Music seems to be much more relaxed or natural and the soundstage is deeper and wider. Vocals are very nice and defined closer to the real thing. I liked the Ground Control device so much that I ordered another for my Bi-wire speakers.
Now, I am using the Synergistic Research Apex Bi wire speaker cables and these have the active shielding. Perhaps because of this the Ground Control complements the cables. I duuno, but they are worth the price of the improvement in sound even though they dont look like much. Highly recommended |
Suteetat, I too have added both the MIGs and the Universal Cells. I tried them one at a time only to realize, as I have said, that the final one makes all the difference. Like you I find they get better with time, but mine have not settled down yet. What really takes me aback is the precision of the sound stage, especially on live recordings. One can clearly hear the separation of the first and second violins as well as what is going on deep in the sound stage.
The MIGs are an unexpected benefit, again as I have said. I did not think they could work. But work they do! I have found the placement of the feet under components greatly affects their performance. And for some unknown reason, they break in! Moving them around doesn't undo this but switching from ambient to pin-point does. I still am using pin-point only under my amp.
Ozzy, of course the question arrises-do the SR Universal Cells and the Audio Prism Ground Controls complement each other? |
Tbg, I would think they will. But, the only way to know is to give them a try. |
Adwiegart,
I use the Alan Maher Ref. II to best effect with the Powercell 10 SE. It works better ahead of the Precision AC, which comes with the 10 SE, rather than plugged into the 10 SE's outlets.
The Alan Maher Infinitys or CBFs, (Circuit Breaker Filters) are very good at clarifying the sound, when used in the breaker box. There are lots of fields in a breaker box because the wires must be unparalleled in order to route the hot wires through the individual breakers. I suspect this is whythese tow products are less effective on powercords and other paralelled AC wires.
I use a PE V Pro plugged into a transformer, which is plugged into the wall. I find it best to not plug AC enhancers or other PLCs into the Powercell 10 SE. It's qualities seem to be best achieved by having the 10 SE as the last devise before the component, especially source components.
And thanks to tbg for the advise on getting the Speaker Cells next.

What I have found is the midrange is so much better than before that I had to change the settings on the Sound Labs.I had the midrange knob set to its lowest setting to keep bloating from occuring. After about 4 weeks of breakin on the Tesla power cell 10SE I was able to adjust the midrange on the Sound Labs to the max setting. This brought out a weight and luciousness that I never thought possible. When I first got the powercell the obvious improvement was bass and highs. Now it is ALL better to the point of real satisfaction. |
Just an update on my recent Powercell 10SE purchase. It has settled in my system for about a month and just configured my subwoofer cord into the powercell yesterday. Several forums back nobody(that I noticed) replied to subwoofer/Powercell experimental conclusions. Even though it is just the factory SVS PB13Ultra cord and not a S.R Tesla T3, I will add the bass had tremendous volume, was extremely controlled, accurately fast and well defined at loud volumes.
I am really "wowed" at the difference plugging it into the Powercell10SE. I can just imagine what it will sound like in a few weeks and with a S.R Tesla T3 power cord.......
Ps. Just to refresh, I do have a Holgram A to power amp, T3 to pre, factory 58" plasma tv cord, T2 to Blu Ray, 2 double Galileo mpc's, + sub cord all plugged into the cell....
Regards Bacardi |
Last week I started experimenting with the MIGS. I put a set underneath my DAC prototype which had just been sitting on my Esoteric clock. I really wasn't expecting much, if any difference. I was wrong - On ambient, they were awful.
In the "pinpoint" configuration, they got a lot better, now slightly exceeding the performance of the DAC directly on top of the clock. My system is back to life, plus a bit better imaging. The clock is sitting directly on my Esoteric Transport, which in turn is sitting upon 3 Cerapucs. I will probably do some more experimentation putting MIGs under the clock, but only after I figure out what to do with the preamp below. Yesterday, I put a another set under my VAC preamp, also in the pin-point position. These are replacing FI Cerapucs that were under the preamp. So far, the MIGs seem a bit brighter, with a bit better bass and also a bit better imaging, but I will have to give these several more days of comparison to determine which I prefer under the preamp.
I will also be getting a set of Speaker-cells to demo in a few weeks. I'm being very careful to add things slowly, in order to clearly identify which addition/replacement is responsible for the subtle (or not so subtle) changes to my system.
Just my $.02. Hope this helps. |
Fplanner, the MIGs are curious-they break in. Also positioning has a big impact on their sound. I have no experience using them between components, however.
You are quite right about going slowly. I changed speakers, a preamp, and added the SR Universal Cells at the same time. I love my new sound but am having trouble understanding what is mainly important. |
Has anyone put miggs on a carpetted floor and what were the results? My Powercell 10SE is on the floor with thin carpet and debating a set of miggs under it. Thx
regards Bacardi |
