Schumann Resonator

I got 2 of these from Amazon...careful that free returns are applicable.  I charged them up, turned them on and holy moly.....they do help with my system.   What I hear is clarity....space between instruments, a definite difference in upright and electric bass, wider soundstage...you know...all the good stuff. At first I thought it might be increased brightness, but no....it is still the same in that regard.  I still can't believe it, and will listen again tomorrow (saved the packaging for the return)...but today, I'm about to keep them.

Maybe the addition of the Schumann resonator enhanced and further activated the previous sonic benefit that was provided solely by the Apcd4s. Tom
Interesting...

I created a cheap version of this already with connected by cable  brass chinese bowls  that help soundstage and focus...

But this product is certainly better and not too costly thanks...
I have been using Audiopoint inverted couplers, the  APCD4s for several years and with proper placement and the right tensioning I can extend the soundstage down a couple of long walls..To tight =s too bright.. back the tension off a touch and there you are. Or I can focus the center stage.  If you want it wrong keep adding more and it can sound like stretched pseudo surround sound..your choice you may like that sound. These can be threaded into mounted panels or use brass threaded inserts into materials and then thread the coupler and tune to your delight..Look at the overall shape and the center is inverted and will capture, focus and disperse energy or with another of our devices ground the resonant energy. Brass is the metal of music and Geometric shapes matter.
This method of usage with this specific product is something I have adapted for my own use.  I am a company member.   http://starsoundtechnologies.com/productsDetail.php?APCD4-Invert-38

To my ears the resonator sounds as if it adds space to a system that is already wall to wall. This added space seems to come with a higher degree of focus and detail and with a more stable image all across the wall. The image seemed wider more stable and made me feel more at ease and relaxed..not stuck to my chair with my head in a vice.

Yup. And the more you use, the more of this you get. I'm at 10 and thinking might try a few more.

Most all of these circuit boards have a tiny little trim pot. Probably fine-tunes the frequency, or but who knows? One of my fun projects, twist the trim pot and see if it makes any difference. Like these things aren't strange enough, tuning by ear.

Ted definitely figured out something along these lines, he has an app where you can adjust soundstage width and depth and other stuff from your iPad.

The link reminded me of the MB Quart vari vent. An external variable tunning vent for loudspeakers.

Hmmm. Makes me wonder if you could do the same thing with slot loading a ceiling rafter or 2 especially if the sound room is located below ground or in a basement. You could locate false ceiling registers in locations to alter pressure. You could add or remove insulation in the ceiling as measured.. Tom
If they won’t come off 800.00 a pair, I might just find out.. ADJ Helmholtz resonators, thought to be PURE hog wash. UNTILL, the 80-90s. If you want to do things a little different..
Very interesting but like usual too costly for me...

I works for peanuts at peanuts cost only...

This is the bad news...

The good news is my grid of homemade Helmholtz devices now ranking to their final number of 21 pipes and tubes of size going to 8 feet for the higher one to the lenght of a straw for the little one, all together adjusted in neck by ear listenings but also with the ratio 1.6 between 3 sets of 3, are easy to fine tuned by ears...

Errors of fine tuning are compensated by the numbers of devices and their complementary simultaneous action on more than one frequncy and harmonics at once...My grid is not perfect for sure.... The improvement is perfect tough with me....

COSTS: peanuts

This device  so interestingit is  will act mainly on bass frequencies and i will need 4 at 800 bucks each...

My homemade grid is more powerful because the pipes i use are of different volumes and act not only on bass but on mid bass and high frequencies also...

Then i smile with an empty peanuts jar beside me....But i have the money to buy another one tough....
Funny all these weird things.. Traditional bass traps are so friggin’ ugly..
It is more easy to sell easy to use bass traps for the mass than real more complex solutions and more efficient one...

By the way i use only one bass trap in my room.... All is not bad with bass trap....
If we count results now, those positive seems to exceed the negatives one...

But even if it was not the case, i excluded placebo because of my suggested experiments with the addtion of the shungite+copper on top of the S.G. or the addition of an Herkimer diamond that completely change the audible effect :

more compressive with the shungite only, more airy with the Herkimer diamond...
More balanced with the shungite+copper tape and the Herkimer diamond together...

A repeatable experiment like mine with repeatable different effect is not placebo save for idiots or for  those  so much ingrained in  bad faith they cannot try a simple experiment or recognize they were wrong....

For some lunatic it is only collective placebos in audio...

I will not adding anything to this silliness......

😁
Common designs consist of electrodes attached to a piece of quartz, in the shape of a rectangular plate for high frequency applications, or in the shape of a tuning fork for low frequency applications. The high dimensional stability and low temperature coefficient of quartz helps keeps resonant frequency constant.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I got a buddy that is forever moving the bands on the tuning forks.. He takes 15 seconds to adjust for certain media. LPs are not the same as SACDs I guess. When he plays vinyl I have to leave.. I love vinyl too.
The sweet spot is so tiny it’s just a mess. He likes it though. CDs sound great.. I can’t tell the difference when he messes with the tuning forks for higher/lower frequencies. It's me but I hear or don't hear. I'm pretty good about not hearing things.. LOL This guy though..

He does have 12 of the link below in a 18 x 25 x 9.6"

A pro came in to help the guy.. Man oh man did these take care of two issues. 50 hz and 80 hz peeks.. Room reminds me of 2001 ASO. I sure heard the difference with his booming room.. The company did a great job..
6k for everything.. done in two days. One-two hours of testing, one day set up..

I just requested a price on 8. 2 per box, 4 boxes. If I had the time I’d make them out of Sonotubes. If they won’t come off 800.00 a pair, I might just find out.. ADJ Helmholtz resonators, thought to be PURE hog wash. UNTILL, the 80-90s. If you want to do things a little different..

Master M strikes again. The Titan of Tinker..

Funny all these weird things.. Traditional bass traps are so friggin’ ugly..

Each trap will gets its own Schumann, :-) Buckle UP! Engage the FTL drive, we’re going for a spin..

Respect..

I'm using two cheapies to good effect in my small room. On top of my speakers.
I use lenses around my movie screen and a soffit.  90 degree angles are bad for sound..so I direct that energy to where I want with different angles and use gradual radui to blend into the flat at the junctions. Plus they look nice. Tom
The lens I use on the floor are triangles a venturi open on both ends that have a slot along its top. These are portable so you can place them on the floor where most beneficial. There is much unfocused energy on both the floor and ceiling. I try to utilize all the dynamic energy my system generates. Ace Venturi is a personafication of the air flow devices I implement.  Tom
Well Mr. Schumann landed in my space today. Both he and Ace Venturi the Master of Laminar Flow have improved articulation, soundstage and overall musicality in my listening room this evening. Tom
Where do you use the laminar flow venturi device and how?

Or is it a secret? You mention it and i want to know.... Thanks,,,

By the way what is your acoustic lens?

The unit faces up at an acoustic lens of sorts

I have my single placed on top of my brass  Platter Ground which sits on the top shelf of a Sistrum rack.
The unit faces up at an acoustic lens of sorts that surrounds my projection screen. The acoustic lens was conceived to capture and  focus energy that travels the ceiling some which maybe lost especially bass and redirect to the listening area.  Room is 27/21/9 with another acoustic lens that covers a soffit.

May add 5 to 7 more to place inside more of my acoustic lenses that reside on the floor in 4 locations.
Tom
.
I've got ten of them all over the place, some pointing one way some pointing another. Sometimes one falls over and dangles whichever way. When I notice I put it back. I've never noticed any difference in sound from any of them no matter which way they're going. Ditto the 5 ft off the floor advice, got some right on the floor they are if anything more effective there than 5ft up.

These things are radiating radio waves. The spiral circuit board trace is the broadcast antenna. Probably if you dig into it enough you will find the radiation pattern is some sort of dipole. Like it matters. The thing is so small that for all intents and purposes the radiation pattern is a sphere. And it don't matter which way you point a sphere.

The effect will of course be stronger closer than farther away. We know this because no matter where Krissy puts hers the cat finds it and curls up right next to it.
Are these things supposed to be placed flat so that the coil points up or on edge with the coils pointing towards what?
Ran this through my "make sense of the banter" decoder ring and the translation: "This stuff actually works."

Yup.
In my audio room. Tom
This part i already figure it out... buy how?

Where do you use it to increase the laminar flow in the room?
Ace Venturi..is my name for my device that increases laminar flow.
Better for me  than that foam and fiberglass slow down. Tom
Good news indeed! but who is Ace Venturi?

Ok i figure it out with internet.... 😁😊
Well Mr. Schumann landed in my space today. Both he and Ace Venturi the Master of Laminar Flow have improved articulation, soundstage and overall musicality in my listening room this evening. Tom
I did get 2 of these and they did make a marginal change in sound. Maybe I need some crystals and copper to enhance the effect?
Improving the room is the FIRST thing to do in audio... S.G. are way down the list even if they work ....I owned 12 then.... 😁😊

But NOTHING will replace the huge improvement of passive materials treatment and active one with Helmholtz tubes and pipes.... Not even upgrading all the audio system...

I wonder how all these blind folks feel about all these tests you all are making them take?

I did get 2 of these and they did make a marginal change in sound. Maybe I need some crystals and copper to enhance the effect?

ordered some sound treatment stuff to experiment with next. Will see how all this junk science works...lol.

Not buying the fuse crap though.
Fellow Audiophiles,

I received my two Schumann Resonators yesterday the 11th of March.
Plugged them in to charge the Lithium Ion batteries ~ one hour.
Green light came on to indicate full charge.
Went to bed as normal.  Put one under the bed near the wife.
I slept no better or worse.
The wife stated she could 'feel' some type of vibrations thru the mattress. She got up and moved the device closer to the foot of the bed.  She states she slept no better or worse. I did not feel or sense any type of vibrations.
(I am male, 65 years old, retired, hearing is poor on high frequency; other than that health is good.) Tonight I am placing the one unit in the bedroom on a chest of drawers in one corner ~ 5' high, directing into the center of the room.

This morning I placed one unit in the' on position' in the listening room/sun room (rear wall is all double pane glass floor to ceiling - ceiling is cathedral style - room open to living/eating/kitchen area) ~ 24" behind the speakers at ~ 7 foot height.  Placed on a window sill, centered between both speakers.  I'm going to let it run one day before I start any type of music experiment.  Right now I don't feel any more calm or relaxed than usual.....

BTW....any recommendations in regards to specific music to play (repeating the on/off testing method) would be appreciated.

I realize this is not a perfect and pure scientific blind test, but it is the best that I wish to muster up.

To Be Continued......I will post again in a few days with further test analysis.  Any recommendations, feel free to add suggestions, but be aware I only have two units and I am not willing to purchase additional ones.
Lou
I've just received a second SG in the mail, a third on the way. Just listened in my bedroom system, one SG near the NAD amp, closer to the left speaker than the right, the other SG near me. It sounded very good, seemed more natural and lifelike.

Now listening in the main system, one between and behind the speakers, 6' high, the other near the electronics (pretty much equidistant to the amps, ADC power conditioner, turntable, and DAC). Similar results - a smoother, more natural presentation, without any loss of resolution.

When the third one gets here, it will be at my listening sofa.

Where do you place yours? How much have you experimented, and what kind of differences have you noticed?
bobby1945-  Thanks for your post. I value input from the 'others' in the home that don't normally pay attention. By your statement, it appears that your younger 'other' (normally folks with decent hearing) knew there had been a change. Curious if it was an unsolicited comment.  Regardless, nice to hear of your experience.

At some point when mine arrive I'll do some A/B listening with them off/on. I do want to know if there's anything going on. I'll gladly tell you all that I wasted $45 if that's the case (you see, it's not a problem), and it may well be; results seem to vary by human.

Perhaps I'll even ask my wife to turn them of or on for me without me knowing. I'm guessing some of you will still want me to identify 99 of 100 tries for anything to be valid.  You make me laugh at how entrenched your thinking is but too each...  I like A/B, blind or not, and long term.

If not blind tested even sun rays are placebo sorry....

If blinded you feel them on your skin anyway , go underground please....

😁😊😎

I initially bought 1 from China and after a week  bought another 3 - 300 Baht each about $10.
2 attached behind my speakers  4 foot above floor level ,on a sliding glass wall door with double sided tape-curtains always pulled across. The other 2 , behind listening position -again fixed with DST. The generators get quite warm once activated.
Something going on for sure  .  I am more focused on the music because of the extra clarity  ; But , as a negative , I am experiencing some tinnitus , which could be attributed to loud and long playing sessions or the medication I take - Cardiprin
Pet Sounds -Beach Boys classic album from the 60's - I have found the stream -Both Tidal and Qobuz is almost unlistenable , because of DRC. With the SG's on the harshness is reduced to a level where I can at last enjoy this great album.
Eva Cassidy Essentials, it was always very good, but now is spellbinding .
Like other comments on here , my partner -30 years younger than me , has  commented, that, "it sounds very good now ".

My wife just said to me get those damn things out of our room.  I need a decent sleep.  A happy wife is a happy life so I am moving them to see if there is any sound improvement tomorrow.
I sleep like a rock (my wife doesn't and hates me for it :-)
I want those darn things for my stereo first!
Better sleepy-time for my spouse would be a nice bonus.
(Just don't make me choose one benefit!)

I'm glad you are a music addict because truth be told it didn't have an effect on my sleep.  ...for me its value is in the improvement in sound.  By the way, my 318 must have been built by the midnight shift...it was awful for me....only my Alfa was worse
Very good to hear, dhite. Mine will take longer to arrive but I'm never in a hurry. If they improve sleep or audio, it's a win. If not, so what; nothing lost that mattered.

I'm smiling at your GSR reference. First new car was '87 Int.LX and I kept it 29 years and loved driving it every mile. Can't forget how impressed BMW 318 owner friend was at everything it offered, especially fit & finish.

Even without the required proof, my mind can accept the minimal science (so far) behind the SR concept, and also that perhaps mankind does not know everything about everything yet...   I'll wait and listen!
Okay, I saw no reason why not to try this tweak.  I ordered two from Amazon.  I chose a $40 model simply for aesthetics.  I have been going back and forth both with vinyl and hi-res streaming.  I probably should not post after 1 hour of listening and 2 glasses of wine but I truly do feel these things are making the music more defined.  The instruments with them seem more focused and the subtle sounds pop more.  I suppose the real test will be when I can arrange a friend to come over to control their power and see what I say then!  This takes me back 20 years when I added my cold-air intake to my Integra GSR.....it felt like about 7 Hp on the butt dyno.  There's an expression we should implement into the audiophile world.  Our listening butt dyno.....love it!

you underestimate the gullibility and overestimate the analytic quality of human’s in general.

Some like usual see anything save in the black and white color qualifications they project onto the world...

To hear a difference sometimes ask for specific conditions about the gear noise floor and the room acoustical settings...Is it not simple to understand?

Dont throw the S.G. but look at improving the mechanical and electrical and acoustical working dimensions of your system and room first... S.G. CANNOT be the first thing to use for improving your system....I said it many times...

Hundreds of people all across the world and through a few decades vouch for an audible positive impact on their audio experience with S.G. some vouch they hear nothing...

The best explanation about this discrepencies in perception is what i just said, difference in gear, difference in embeddings controls, the best explanation cannot be a stupid and hysterical accusation of hallucination or of collective placebos effect first and last against a very great number of peoples...

Placebo effect exist, but working embeddings dimensions controls and their noise floor exist also and are more important factors in audio experience than the placebo concept some hysterical doctor see everywhere, even if it is not the MAIN factor at all playing in the audio field...

Musicaddict, you underestimate the gullibility and overestimate the analytic quality of human's in general. Schumann resonators are the worst kind of snake oil. If you plug it in it must work right? If you read it in the newspaper it must be true? It would be much more accurate to assume the opposite.
And if I don't hear an improvement (even after weeks) the tweak is gone.

You got me beat on patience. If I don't hear a difference immediately it is gone. Whatever it is. Whatever it cost.

millercarbon-   Thank you for going through your observations upon acquiring the initial units and the following ones. Had I decided to invest a lot more money I'd have read a lot more literature first, but $15/45....
I don't get headaches so expect that I'd notice anything going on up there (although some claim very little activity normally..  ;-)   I will keep an eye on our two cats and my wife and will probably put the units into use with only myself being aware, and give it some time. I will most assuredly post on what 'we' find whether it is positive or negative or nothing at all.

For me it was easy math. Too many folks have reported audible musical and/or sleep enhancements to discount them all as quacks. I ignore most of the more idiotic tweaks and snake oil products sold in the audio domain. And most of those are a bit more than $10 each, so I'll take my chances on the SR units.

And if I don't hear an improvement (even after weeks) the tweak is gone. No pixie dust to change my brain and perception. I like blind and double-blind testing at times, which scares the crap out of the guys who cannot readily identify changes if they don't know the gear being used (funny).    But I also do a lot of long term testing on any changes, days or weeks at a time; I think that 'living with' testing has a place.

With the obscene amount of money spent on connecting wires/cables I have no qualms dropping a few bucks on a tweak that may well offer audibly discernible improvements.    As for those who have never heard one, for good or bad; they really have no useful input for this discussion as I see it.

musicaddict-
I am interested if anyone has any experience with the SRs that generate a square wave versus a sine wave. I am wondering about the possible differences between the two based on some comments on ’pain’ with square wave resonators. Thoughts based on real experiences are what I’m interested in. Possibly educated theories could apply. Thanks much!

No idea if mine are square or whatever. Never paid attention to that. But I can tell you what I do know.

Before buying I read a lot of stuff. I read peer-reviewed research showing statistically significant reductions in blood pressure and depression (psychological studies) and I read New Age crystal stories about how great you will sleep, and everything in between. So I was paying attention and figured that unusual focus on how I feel was why I noticed a feeling like a very slight tension headache as soon as the first one was plugged in.

That feeling persisted as the second was plugged in and was there pretty much the whole time I was listening. It was so minor I dismissed it as coincidence. First couple nights I moved one to bedside at night. Wife claimed she slept better. I felt no difference. The slight headache was gone. Probably nothing.

Gradually every so often I bought a couple more. The slight uneasy feeling returned each time a new one or two were added. At one point I sent one to Krissy. She was thrilled, it made her feel so much better right away, and she put it under her bed.

Not long after that she’s looking around, where the hell did the cat go? Looking everywhere. Damn cat must have got out. Finally she looks under the bed. Cat never went there before but wtf only place she hasn’t looked. There’s the cat, curled up and sleeping right next to the SG.

Possibly my skull is too thick, or brain too big, but it works on normal size humans and cats. We report. You decide.

No, really, it's true. My brain is unusually large. Seriously.
You always generate a negative and nasty resonance on any thread you prey upon. Tom

Now don’t be throwin’ the mechanic under the bus.. LOL Mechanics don’t war. There is an order to thing.. Mechanic, apprentice.. simple.. Everything else is, left handed or right handed way of thinkin’
I’m a lefty.. makes a difference...Lefties comprise 10% of the population.  20% of mechanics are left handed. 30% of our presidents... BUT of 100% of lefties are NUTS... That leaves 90% that are in denial.  At least we are honest... Billy Clinton is excluded from that pile. Even the lefties don't want him... :-)
