I have a Bricasti M12 DAC and I use the Audio Sensibility Signature power cable. It sounds very open and neutral to my ears. I was using Nordost Frey II power cable prior to using the Audio Sensibility power cable and it sounded much better than the Nordost Frey II cable. It's definitely worth a try.
We used both a Bricasti M1 SE and M3 for the design of our Finley Audio Cirrus Power Cords (well other products were used as well)... We still want to get our hands on some M28s for evaluating as well.
We even sent some of the cables to Brian Zolner at Bricasti to use which he is using on his home system to evaluate his products.
If interested let me know we can get you one.
You can reach out to me on here or I can give you my e-mail/phone to discuss further if you like.
Check out Cullen Cable and save a ton of money. I use their power cords for my Decware Torii mkiv with great results. No cable under $2k has been better. I believe he'll offer a return or demo cord if you're interested. Great customer service and very responsive to questions.
Providing advise on selecting brand or model of a power, or any cable for that matter, is nigh on impossible. However, from my experience, it is worth you doing some research into the cable engineering philosophy of various companies and find a manufacturer that provides you with some confidence.
In my case, I have the a full suite of cables from a single, small cable builder who worked on military aircraft communications and earthing systems. I was fortunate to be able to hear a system with his cables used throughout and with most of the hi-fi separate components that I have. This listening experience made my decision to go with one designer/manufacturer for all my cables and I have not changed any of them in 6 years.
Hope this makes sense and in a small way helps you to use your own judgement.
I’d remove Kimber from your list. Kimber makes nice PC’s for analog but they are unshielded and will add noise to digital components. I’d look at a WyWires Platinum Juice II Digital series PC which is a shielded cable which will have a lower noise floor. Used to use Kimber and enjoyed them but moved on to WyWires and Nordost… no comparison.
+1 on the Audience Au 24SE. I have the MP ( medium power) version and sounds great on my Bricasti M3. Replaced a Triode Wire Labs.
Seems like the SE model is kinda of a sweet spot for value and performance Still not cheap on the used market but offer a nice well balanced sound. Great company who supports all their legacy products, with most products having the ability to be upgraded to the newer model.
Best power cords I’ve tried on DACs is the Audience AU24se. They come up once in a while on a used market. Open and natural sound with great bass. But I can’t describe the sound of audience cables as dark. Transparent and neutral without emphasis on any particular frequency region yes but dark they’re not.
Hello Mdrone. Shielded power cords are available fro Parts Exprss for $5.00. You don't need huge wires (12 gauge or so) because the DAC doesn't draw much power. You can find large shielded power cords on Amazon for $40 - $50. Be sure it's flexible enough that it doesn''t pull your dac off the shelf. Spend your money on music. Happy shopping.
I use Triode Wire Labs with my Innuos Zenith Mark III & it sounds really good. Triode makes really good cables @ relatively reasonable prices. Probably worth checking them out.
There are so many power cords at every prices. The most expensive one doesn’t mean it is the one that you will love on your dac. Perhaps a shop could leave some on loan for a test. That’s the best way. On my dac, I have change the original fuse by a better one as well. For example, hifi tuning supreme fuse.
Imagine how much music you could buy with $996 by spending $4 on a power cord that will sound the same as one costing $1000. This is all you need, objectively speaking.
My experiences has shown that D.U.C.C Wire used in a Cable from a Company such as Acrolink Leggenda can offer a influence toward the description of a Sonic Signature you have pointed toward.
This Cable is supplied either with Plug Connectors or without, it is offered with different configurations for the Wire and Sheathing at different pricing per metre length.
Using the method where there is not a home trial period offered, and buying it as a Cable Only, and using recommended Plug Connectors will allow for a very high quality Cable to be produced at a reasonable outlay.
use anything that's OCC single Crystal like zenwave, Harmonic technology, acoustic Zen and Neotech and rectangular OCC is the best for power cords not cheap though.
I have a Bricasti M5, not a DAC, with their LPS built in. I asked them about upgrading the power cord and they said the stock cord is ideal and not necessary. I did try some upgrades and did not hear any improvement in my system. Not sure if your DAC is similar. Good luck with it all.
@mdrone- If you haven't already explored this , if you go to the virtual system page and type Bricasti in the query bar it will bring up members who posted systems with Bricasti DACs. This will allow you to either identify what they are using by either private messaging them via Audiogon, or possibly they will have explicitly noted what cable they are using with it in their comment and/or component listing sections.
I've always particularly liked Audience cords with digital...they hold value very well, so you can possibly use one a few years with no actual cost...I believe this applies to many used/not current model power cords...
