My Long List of Amplifiers and My Personal Review of Each!

So I have been in a long journey looking to find the best amplifiers for my martin logan montis. As you know, the match between an amplifier and speakers has to be a good "marriage" and needs to be blend exquisitely. Right now, I think I might have found the best sounding amplifier for martin logan. I have gone through approximately 34-36 amplifiers in the past 12 months. Some of these are:

Bryston ST, SST, SST2 series
NAD M25
PARASOUND HALO
PARASOUND CLASSIC
KRELL TAS
KRELL KAV 500
KRELL CHORUS
ROTEL RMB 1095
CLASSE CT 5300
CLASSE CA 2200
CLASSE CA 5200
MCINTOSH MC 205
CARY AUDIO CINEMA 7
OUTLAW AUDIO 755
LEXICON RX7
PASS LABS XA 30.8
BUTLER AUDIO 5150
ATI SIGNATURE SERIES 6005

With all that said, the amplifiers I mentioned above are the ones that in my opinion are worth mentioning. To make a long story short, there is NO 5 CHANNEL POWER AMP that sounds as good as a 3ch and 2ch amplifier combination. i have done both experiments and the truth is that YOU DO lose details and more channel separation, etc when you select a 5 channel power amplifier of any manufacturer.
My recollection of what each amp sounded like is as follows:

ATI SIGNATURE SERIES 6005 (great power and amazing soundstage. Very low noise floor, BUT this amplifiers NEEDS TO BE cranked up in order to fully enjoy it. If you like listening at low volume levels or somewhat moderate, you are wasting your time here. This amp won’t sound any different than many other brands out there at this volume. The bass is great, good highs although they are a bit bright for my taste)

NAD M25 (very smooth, powerful, but somewhat thin sounding as far as bass goes)
Bryston sst2(detailed, good soundstage, good power, but can be a little forward with certain speakers which could make them ear fatiguing at loud volumes)

Krell (fast sounding, nice bass attack, nice highs, but some detail does get lost with certain speakers)

rotel (good amp for the money, but too bright in my opinion)

cary audio (good sound overall, very musical, but it didn’t have enough oomph)

parasound halo (good detail, great bass, but it still holds back some background detail that i can hear in others)

lexicon (very laid back and smooth. huge power, but if you like more detail or crisper highs, this amp will disappoint you)

McIntosh mc205 (probably the worst multichannel amp given its price point. it was too thin sounding, had detail but lacked bass.

butler audio (good amplifier. very warm and smooth sweet sounding. i think for the money, this is a better amp than the parasound a51)

pass labs (very VERY musical with excellent bass control. You can listen to this for hours and hours without getting ear fatigue. however, it DOES NOT do well in home theater applications if all you have is a 2 channel set up for movies. The midrange gets somewhat "muddy" or very weak sounding that you find yourself trying to turn it up.

classe audio (best amplifier for multi channel applications. i simply COULDNT FIND a better multi channel amplifier PERIOD. IT has amazing smoothness, amazing power and good bass control although i would say krell has much better bass control)

Update: The reviews above were done in January 2015. Below is my newest update as of October 2016:

PS AUDIO BHK 300 MONOBLOCKS: Amazing amps. Tons of detail and really amazing midrange. the bass is amazing too, but the one thing i will say is that those of you with speakers efficiency of 87db and below you will not have all the "loudness" that you may want from time to time. These amps go into protection mode when using a speaker such as the Salon, but only at very loud levels. Maybe 97db and above. If you don’t listen to extreme crazy levels, these amps will please you in every way.

Plinius Odeon 7 channel amp: This is THE BEST multichannel amp i have ever owned. Far , but FAR SUPERIOR to any other multichannel amp i have owned. In my opinion it destroyed all of the multichannel amps i mentioned above and below. The Odeon is an amp that is in a different tier group and it is in a league of its own. Amazing bass, treble and it made my center channel sound more articulate than ever before. The voices where never scrambled with the action scenes. It just separated everything very nicely.

Theta Dreadnaught D: Good detailed amp. Looks very elegant, has a pleasant sound, but i found it a tad too bright for my taste. I thought it was also somewhat "thin" sounding lacking body to the music. could be that it is because it is class d?

Krell Duo 300: Good amp. Nice and detailed with enough power to handle most speakers out there. I found that it does have a very nice "3d" sound through my electrostatics. Nothing to fault here on this amp.
Mark Levinson 532H: Great 2 channel amp. Lots of detail, amazing midrange which is what Mark Levinson is known for. It sounds very holographic and will please those of you looking for more detail and a better midrange. As far as bass, it is there, but it is not going to give you the slam of a pass labs 350.5 or JC1s for example. It is great for those that appreciate classical music, instrumental, etc, but not those of you who love tons of deep bass.

 It is articulate sounding too
Krell 7200: Plenty of detail and enough power for most people. i found that my rear speakers contained more information after installed this amp. One thing that i hated is that you must use xlr cables with this amp or else you lose most of its sound performance when using RCA’s.

Krell 402e: Great amp. Very powerful and will handle any speaker you wish. Power is incredible and with great detail. That said, i didn’t get all the bass that most reviewers mentioned. I thought it was "ok" in regards to bass. It was there, but it didn’t slam me to my listening chair.

Bryston 4B3: Good amp with a complete sound. I think this amp is more laid back than the SST2 version. I think those of you who found the SST2 version of this amp a little too forward with your speakers will definitely benefit from this amp’s warmth. Bryston has gone towards the "warm" side in my opinion with their new SST3 series. As always, they are built like tanks. I wouldn’t call this amp tube-like, but rather closer to what the classe audio delta 2 series sound like which is on the warm side of things.

Parasound JC1s: Good powerful amps. Amazing low end punch (far superior bass than the 402e). This amp is the amp that i consider complete from top to bottom in regards to sound. Nothing is lacking other than perhaps a nicer chassis. Parasound needs to rework their external appearance when they introduce new amps. This amp would sell much more if it had a revised external appearance because the sound is a great bang for the money. It made my 800 Nautilus scream and slam. Again, amazing low end punch.

Simaudio W7: Good detailed amp. This amp reminds me a lot of the Mark Levinson 532h. Great detail and very articulate. I think this amp will go well with bookshelves that are ported in order to compensate for what it lacks when it comes to the bass. That doesn’t mean it has no bass, but when it is no Parasound JC1 either.
Pass labs 350.5: Wow, where do i begin? maybe my first time around with the xa30.8 wasn’t as special as it was with this monster 350.5. It is just SPECTACULAR sounding with my electrostatics. The bass was THE BEST BASS i have ever heard from ANY amp period. The only amp that comes close would be the jC1s. It made me check my settings to make sure the bass was not boosted and kept making my jaw drop each time i heard it. It totally destroyed the krell 402e in every regard. The krell sounded too "flat" when compared to this amp. This amp had amazing mirange with great detail up top. In my opinion, this amp is the best bang for the money. i loved this amp so much that i ended up buying the amp that follows below.

Pass labs 250.8: What can i say here. This is THE BEST STEREO AMP i have ever heard. This amp destroys all the amps i have listed above today to include the pass labs 350.5. It is a refined 350.5 amp. It has more 3d sound which is something the 350.5 lacked. It has a level of detail that i really have never experienced before and the bass was amazing as well. I really thought it was the most complete power amplifier i have ever heard HANDS DOWN. To me, this is a benchmark of an amplifier. This is the amp that others should be judged by. NOTHING is lacking and right now it is the #1 amplifier that i have ever owned.

My current amps are Mcintosh MC601s: i decided to give these 601s a try and they don’t disappoint. They have great detail, HUGE soundstage, MASSIVE power and great midrange/highs. The bass is great, but it is no pass labs 250.8 or 350.5. As far as looks, these are the best looking amps i have ever owned. No contest there. i gotta be honest with you all, i never bought mcintosh monos before because i wasn’t really "wowed" by the mc452, but it could have been also because at that time i was using a processor as a preamp which i no longer do. Today, i own the Mcintosh C1100 2 chassis tube preamp which sounds unbelievable. All the amps i just described above have been amps that i auditioned with the C1100 as a preamp. The MC601s sound great without a doubt, but i will say that if you are looking for THE BEST sound for the money, these would not be it. However, Mcintosh remains UNMATCHED when it comes to looks and also resale value. Every other amp above depreciates much faster than Mcintosh.

That said, my future purchase (when i can find a steal of a deal) will be the Pass labs 350.8. I am tempted to make a preliminary statement which is that i feel this amp could be THE BEST stereo amp under 30k dollars. Again, i will be able to say more and confirm once i own it. I hope this update can help you all in your buying decisions!

jays_audio_lab
yes Guido. That is correct, but the powercord is not an aftermarket one. What i was trying to say is for WHATEVER REASON some manufacturers don't come with aftermarket power cords. Only the Dag integrated came with a transparent powercord. i don't recall ever owning a power amp that had an aftermarket powercord from the factory.

Just a clarification.... All Rowland products, including M925 monoblocks amps, are shipped with an accessory box inside each ship carton. Amongst other things, the box contains a starter power cord for the device. For amplifiers, this power cord is somewhat heavier gage than ordinary household power cords, although it does not pretend to equal in performance many after market cords. It is possible that if a Rowland device was previously owned, the stock cord might have been omitted by the seller.

For each M925 mono amp, the accessory box should also contain 3 screw-in delrin ball footers to fit under the power supply chassis, and four smaller Delrin balls to act as separators between the power supply chassis and the audio chassis....  Once the power supply is in place, you drop each ball into a divet milled in the top of the power supply chassis, and then gently place the audio chassis on top... The balls will fit into corresponding divets milled in the bottom of the audio chassis.

@ vibrator6  Dear vibes I admire you and we are going to miss you here. We will miss your generously and selflessly self appointed position as audio consultant, well more audio insultant IMO. We will miss your incessant verbal flatulence riding roughshod over all other posters.
You said you will be closing the book which I find admirable. Try at the end of this chapter to retain some semblance of dignity and exit quietly .Somewhere out there audio heaven awaits you and you will then be able to look down on all us ignorant, bootless and unhorsed masses suffering dull systems.
Rowlands don’t have a special power cord... Luxman 900u don’t come with a special power cord either... some of them just don’t include them.
WC, if the supplied power cords that came with the Block amps are not at least 12 gauge ( which I do not believe they are ), that alone, when you change them out, could be attributable to any improvement you will hear.
As many of us have observed, power cord differences can be dramatic.  And we often replace many stock cords in our system.  But why would a manufacturer of a high performance amplifier company provide cords that limit its current driving ability?

WC, if the supplied power cords that came with the Block amps are not at least 12 gauge ( which I do not believe they are ), that alone, when you change them out, could be attributable to any improvement you will hear. You are starving them. Uh OH, I am sounding like...….Enjoy ! MrD.
@whitecamaross

"I am holding off from beginning to do the cable swaps right now. i want to sit and listen for at least a full week. I need to get my ears adjusted to the sound so i can pick up the differences as i begin to make changes."

Very good way to at least break the ice with the new system. It sounds very fun and I'd imagine it brings a tear or two to the eye with just how incredible it sounds.
Oh Man, I wish I could hear this current set up...
Are the Blocks the "SE"?
just hearing your description got me to crank up the stereo.
the other day there was some discussion about electronic music.
try the track "Dial 274" by Skee Mask from the album Compro. it should be fun. it's on Tidal!

@guidocorona, @mrdecibel ..thanks for touching base .

 I enjoy reading your posts!

All the best!

Hello @MikePaul, you and I seem to be of one mind regarding excruciatingly long equipment break-in... I’m getting a feeling the WC might be getting himself on our same slippery slope of Breakophilia Obsessiva... Before long he will push break-in amps and speakers to 1K hours plus... I might need to send him my break-in tracker Excell template to manage his burgeoning break-in anxieties *Grins!*

G.

@mikepaul, it’s all good, as I was hoping it was humor ( we actually can use more of it, that is for sure ). And yes, things do take quite a long time with this level of gear ( your system seems excellent btw ) to dial in and break in to reach maximum performance. That is, until the " bug " bites you in the a__, lol. Enjoy ! MrD.
@MrD...No no , not jealous at all. ( I wouldn't follow the thread if I were ).

Just a bad attempt at humor on my part.

In other words, I meant that WC is not hurting for quality sound with these amps or the Luxmans.

In my mind , he's looking good either way. Like going from one Porsche to another.

I do believe, though, that at least a few weeks if not months must be given to fully comprehend the systems sound. (if everything is new).

It took me quite awhile to finally declare my own system was broken in.

@techno....yes, I like expensive audio gear. I understand, at a certain level you pay big for small improvements ( assuming there are improvements ). But, whatever dude. just be happy...….@mikepaul...? Not sure what you are implying. It is always possible that multiple thousands invested in gear " will not do it, give it, get you there ", etc. So many megabuck systems I have heard ( and some that I assembled for clients ), never did it for me, in one way or the other ( so long as the client was happy ). I made the statement because wc really enjoyed the Luxman gear, as he made that comment about missing qualities he remembered, while listening to the Ref 10, Block combo, after 3 days. I know you are a ML fanboy and owner, so a bit of jealousy maybe on your part about wc and his equipment. Again, not sure what you were saying ? WC, I understand you wanting to wait to change the power cables. In fact, it is nice to see you taking your time, adjusting, and allowing break in time to occur. After 3 days, I would have changed the cables. Enjoy ! MrD.
trying to think about what i have achieved here with my current set up:
1. fullness and roundness
2. Greater clarity
3. More impact
4. ZERO lack of power reserves
5. No fatigue
6. Brain rattling bass

I am holding off from beginning to do the cable swaps right now. i want to sit and listen for at least a full week. I need to get my ears adjusted to the sound so i can pick up the differences as i begin to make changes.
Oh yeah MrD,I feel terrible for WC. No Luxmans.

Yeah, I ’m sure he’s not feeling "IT".

Uh-huh. poor guy .

Sippin’ his fav’ drink.

In a comfy recline.

Listening to over 100 G notes of audio equipment.

Wish I could empathize.

Somehow i  think he will be sleeping well tonight with a giant smile on his face.

WC, you said " and yes I still miss a lot of its musicality and just that " can't get off my a$$ " feeling night after night of listening ". Spoken about the Luxman equipment, with different speakers. I would truly hope you can get to that point with your current set up. If you are not feeling " it " right now, additional break in will likely not get you there ( and I like breaking in equipment for weeks before critical, enjoyable listening ). Wish you the best. Enjoy ! MrD.

lol i already had the luxman combo... i can tell you that the block audio is still opening up and continuing to improve. The luxman monos are spectacular though and i still remember spending long lights with that set up. I could easily live with that combo of yours and knowing that although there are better things there, i still have some of the best that can be had. After i parted with luxman, i knew i would miss it and yes i still miss alot of its musicality and just that "cant get off my a$$" feeling night after night of listening.
I wish i had it here to try it, but i got far too much invested in gear right now that i will begin to sell soon here on agon. I want to probably sell the momentum, but ugh i can't get myself to do it.
i always suspected that the neolith with the luxman combo would be stellar to say the least. That was my next set up until the block audios arrived...
AYRE Amps are not in the same league as Arc, Dag, Lux and many others.  YES I owned the Ayre. Still have the KXR-20 that I will trade in for something else at some point.  AYRE MXR or VXR are available for about 60% of MSRP when they show up used. I think thats certainly a good deal BUT the Power Amps are hard to unload even at that price (About 14-15K for Monos). The Pre is much easier to ditch because its up there with the best of them.
None of the best amps I’ve heard are on this list - Spectral DMA 500s, Nagra HD amps, Ayre MXRs. Why? Because you want a “deal”.
So........I will tell you that the Luxman M-900u in Mono with the C-900u powering the Neolith is nothing short of spectacular. It is effortless at any volume and type of music that you throw at it. I have depth to the sound stage and the clarity of the instruments makes it feel like you are in your own personal club listening to your favorite musician.

Is it the amp or the speaker? I think it is the synergy between the two. I think that is the part of the journey that has been lost at times in the thread. The journey is about finding the parts that give you, the listener, what you are looking for and what you find pleasing.

That is the beauty of the thread for the most part, when not preaching about the Rane, you get a point of view on different amps and their sound profile in one room with one set of ears and not having to worry about making any advertisers upset if you feel that McIntosh is really just middle of the road.

My only advice to any potential Neolith buyers is to blindfold your spouse and let them listen to the music before they freak out on how massive they are. My GF nearly lost her mind when I put them in the room however once the music started to play all complaints went away. That is SOTA in opinion.

I have zero reservations about recommending Luxman M-900u to anyone and the C-900u has tone controls so you may as well have that as well. :-)
Been following this thread from a long while.  Thanks WCSS for creating such an awesome journey for us all to follow.  Owning a couple of pairs of ML ESLs, I was hoping you would pick up the Neolith!

From my experience with MLs, they are some of the hardest speakers to drive.  I currently have the 11As (space limitations), and even with those, the more the power the better for the soundstage, depth, clarity, and base.  Every tweak is noticable in the system.  Just today I moved the speaker 6 inches closer together and the highs compressed, I spread them back out and they opened up.

@ricred1 totally agree with you.  @technodude if you follow the development of the Neolith it was a pet project within ML to create their best speaker.  The only requirement was that it be able to fit through doors.  I really don’t think they expected to sell a lot and not sure they have bothered with any large marketing efforts on these speakers.  I have always imagined they would be some of the hardest speakers to drive given the size of the panel and passive woofers.
riced1, maybe you are right about the prestige and pride attached to some brands.

WC, wait till you try Shunyata NR powercords on your Block Audio amps. What the Alpha NR does on my 900u is spooky impressive. Like every qualities are  on steroids..

My personal opinion and nothing more....Magico and Wilson Audio are very, very good with marketing their speakers. As a previous owner of several Wilson Audio speakers there was a feeling of pride of ownership. Elites may not own Martin Logan Neoliths for reasons that have absolutely nothing to do with how they sound.
Still, Neoliths buyers are pretty rare. Elites seems to go with other options, and it is not because they can’t afford them... In the end, market never lies.
Go ESLs!! Neolith could be in the same company of Magico and Wilson. We are starting to find out. Fact is.... you don't know what WCSS is hearing now. I don't feel for a second that WCSS is not listening to one of the best speakers available for the price. They just need some real good electronics and cable matching to realize their potential. The look of them is just so stunning as well. I can't overemphasize how excited I am. Being an electrostatic believer and fanboy, I'm very happy WCSS has bit the bullet and bought them.
Techno,
although I see where you’re coming from, for sure I will try something else at some point. Right now I just want to enjoy the ride with them and I wish all those people who went to shows and heard the neoltihs and who were disappointed could come to my home and hear block audio with them. They’d be singing a different tune in regards to the neoltihs real fast. The explosiveness of this combo is magical. I’ve never heard an electrostatic sound so dynamic before.
Happy for you, sure it’s a cool serious system you got there.

Though you would not need to blow out so much time and money figuring out amps if you got Alexia 2 or Magico M6. I bet you will not own the Neoliths anymore , before date of today 2019. Any amp won’t make them as exciting as whats best outthere in dynamics speakers...you will be bored sooner than later with that polite type of sound.

Sure, the journey will be fun though. I know it’s still great time to come.
Cabling:
wireworld silver 8 speaker cables
wireword platinum 7 (dac to preamp)
wireworld silver 8 (preamp to amp)
wireworld platinum 7 usb
factory, $10 dollar power cables on the block audio amps.

Letting things settle before I begin cable swaps. I believe that the system still has room to get far better and cabling will be where I may go next.

I just had a friend of mine come over and listen to tbe block audios at 95-100db and his words after one hour of listening to all sorts of genres were: “ those amps Let me hear the different layers in the bass which I didn’t pick up with the rest” (He heard the momentum and the Plinius too)
I need to play with them for the next few weeks and then the shootouts might begin after I sell my integrateds. My plan will be:
block audio vs:
gryphon antileon
momentum m400s
dual Plinius sa103
l want to use the Neoltihs for this experiment because I want to beat the hell out of the amps. I want to tax them across the frequency range with no help. I plan to go full throttle on all of them and then begin to eliminate one at a time.
Will the Czech Republic smoke Denmark and the USA? I don’t have a clue, but I sure get excited to find out !

WC, excellent that everything is working well together, especially the " highs that are dialed in so perfectly ", and without tone controls or an eq. I would not think the Neos would be rolled off in the highs ( I never though that was an issue with any ML I have owned or have heard ). They needed specific, dialed in room set up, break in, and the right electronics behind them. Hopefully, things will only get better. Just an opinion, if I may...…….rather than try and pick apart the sound ( which you tend to do ), just see, with this combo, if you can " get into the music ". If this requires tequila, or anything else that can help you to relax, that will be the real test. What I am saying is, do not listen to the gear. Looking forward to future reports and opinions of yours. Enjoy ! MrD.
Block audio/ neoltihs/ref10:
Its a total homerun. It’s the craziest most balanced sound I’ve ever heard in my room. Fullness, mids to die for, highs that are dialed in so perfectly. The entire presentation lacks nothing. I can’t seem
to pick apart the sound no matter how hard I try. I’m blown away on day 3 of this experiment.
a couple of unsolicited thoughts from a 40+ year audio veteran.
1. never forget that when a new item is installed into a system the listener is hyper focused almost insuring that differences will be heard. my experience is that no judgement can be made in less than a week or more. what’s exciting on day one will most likely not be so exciting the following week. maybe yes maybe no.
2. the tone controls on the Dag integrated and Luxman pre have more power to positively alter the sound than any other component or wire. Consider the “sparkle” issue that has been brought forth in this thread. It was said that the Dag integrated lacked sparkle with apparently a speaker that is on the darker side of neutral. Naturally a neutral amp on said speaker will sound dark. It’s supposed to. An amp that had “sparkle” on this same speaker would then be bright on a neutral speaker. All is not lost however as a judiciously applied treble boost of 1-2db will add plenty of “sparkle” from the Dag when and if needed. Ditto for the Luxman pre. This is infinitely better that trying to match components within the bright/dark continuum.
Once an audiophile geek such as myself gets over the bias against tone controls a whole new world of better sound can open up imo.
I read about them on several sites and I took it all in with a grain of salt. I then made a few calls and I was told by someone that they saw them at the Munich show and they were stunning. Next thing you know they are here.
Rowland and Dag look like a Ferrari and the block audio looks like military m1 tank. Both are built to stunning construction and precision but on different templates.
I'm curious as to how you heard about Block Audio Monos. They are from the Czech republic, and pretty much a new face in the European audio market. Amazing on how they took a look at the SOTA in amps and preamps and then proceeded to build equipment on the side of "Best of the Best". Would love to hear about how you came across Block Audio. Thanks.
OK, my book here is now ending, except I will occasionally offer a brief thanks to anyone presenting interesting info in a dignified manner.  I apologize if I have offended anyone disagreeing with me, but even in those cases valid points were made.  I have learned from all of you, and I wish everyone well on their own personal audio journeys. For anyone who wishes to communicate with me, I welcome your emails, russlaud at gmail. I won't post anywhere else.  Thanks and good luck.
Day 3:
the block audio Monos were left on all night long in eco mode. This takes them out of class a but leaves them in Class AB drawing 50 watts idling which is less than a lightbulb.
Im itching to try their matching preamp because I’m curious to know what’s not being heard right now that the matching preamp can bring to the table.
Right now the ref10 and block audio have amazing synergy. The bottom end is on a another level. It took away any overhang or “woof woof” in the bass department that the Plinius May have had.
Right now, my preliminary feelings are that these amps rank with the best of the best. Pass Labs looks like a tonka toy and this one looks like the real trucks.
@minorl...nice post.

People sure do rush to judgement about any new piece that WC has plugged in. They are quick to say"fail" or "overpriced" etc after 5 minutes of use! (they feel a sense  schadenfreude).

I'm with you about the REF10. I when I plugged my REF6 in my system I was thankful I was able to acquire it.

I might have to cut in front of you when the "10" becomes available!!!...LOL

Sound aside, the Block Audio Mono is an absolute marvel of build quality and components. I'm glad the sound reproduction is matching the components inside. It should only get better with time.

Just to be clear, the Neoliths, like many other speakers require a proper amount of time to break in and also required proper set up and placement, as WC has discovered.  He has owned many other Martin Logan speakers in the past, and also many other speakers and he knew this.

simply taking them out of the box and placing them in the room wouldn't work for most speakers.

So, there was/is nothing "wrong" with the Neoliths.  Proper break in, set up and placement was required.  each room is different.

That is not to say that in the future, WC won't try other speakers, amps etc.  That is really the point of this post and his journey.

People are now sitting back waiting for him to off load equipment, so they can grab it.  He has bought and sold some very nice stuff.

I'll be at his front door, first in line when (if) he decides to sell his REF 10 pre-amp.  I have the REF 6 and I am very happy with it.  But, I have heard the REF 10, REF 40 and many others and as far as the REF 10 is concerned.......damn!  And yes, most times, I have heard equipment in my own system.

How many of us have been seriously disappointed buying something with out hearing it in our system first only to bring it home, hook it up and say, wait a minute, this doesn't sound nearly as good as I remember in the store?

I've never heard Block Audio amps, but if WC says they sound great with the REF 10, Neolith set up, after all he has heard, I believe him.

enjoy

@bigdesignGreat post above regarding duel subs. I would just like to add that that will benefit all kinds of speakers. Also it gives you flexibility to tailor the sound according to the recording.
Also I think a lot of what viper says is correct.   There is not a large corelation between cost and performance.    A lot of the stuff out there is not based on science and sound design principles but relies on the audiophile penchant to believe in “magic “.  This is not so much in amplifiers but more prevalent in tweaks and wire.
WC, thanks for the Block Audio update.....keep it coming.  Also, thanks for staying away from the BS that has somehow found its way to this thread.  I can't understand why some choose to argue about something as subjective as what somebody else hears in their own system - a pointless rabbit hole.
mrdecibel is an audio consultant, it explains everything and why Viber s posts on common sense about overpriced gear is getting to him so much. He is biased and will always be biased, so we’ll take his advice with a big grain of salt from now on. I ´m with the doc, and many more are, he is not in the audio buisness and has objective thought about pricey gear. Sure this hurts the ego of owners of  Dag or other big buck shiny electronics. As they say, the truth always hurt.

ugh the energy on this chain now bums me out
WC - looking forward to hearing how the sound is unfolding on day 3!
