I’ve tried a search here for such a function,and I’ve come up empty. Is there a way to block certain members? Not just from personal messages,but so they don’t show up in any topic I’m reading. Sometimes it’s nice to ask a question and learn something without someone trying to rub your nose in your lack of knowledge like a dog that did his business in the house. I am all for learning from others. That’s one of the reasons I frequent this site. However,there are some folks here that do have vast knowledge, but are as abrasive as 40 grit sandpaper. For those folks I’m ready to throw the baby out with the bath water.
We're in a moment now, where some can't differentiate their online, virtual persona from their real ones. For some, they're now indistinguishable.
The world is now full of people, seen on videos, who would have been locked up for a 72 hour evaluation period not 5 years ago, and they're out and about, either online or in reality, just one imagined insult from losing it.
Unfortunately, audio, and this site, are no exceptions.
By no means am I for censorship. Well, maybe personal censorship. I’m not talking about mods running around deleting posts,I’m talking about my ability to remove those posts/posters. Make no mistake, this is still America,and everyone has a right to free speech. Sometimes,just sometimes it would be nice not to see the same old crap. I guess I’m living in fantasy land.
If you'd started off with "filter function" perhaps things would have gone better. Just bear this in mind too: You can't post photos directly on A'gon. The @name reply function works about 2 times out of 10. etc.
Because there is not a blocking function, just a few days ago I requested that the mods add a new topic called "Tweaks".
My reason for doing so is that to my thinking it is by no small measure that tweak topics digress into choas. You have the tweakaholics swearing about the improvement in sound, equivalent to buying a new component, that they have achieved with their often expensive tweaks. And on the other side you have the engineers, respected equipment designers, and others implying that the tweakers are basically imagining the improvement, probably because of some unspoken underlying psychological reason.
In addition, by having a separate topic to discuss tweaks, it would hopefully somewhat curtail people from starting to discuss the tweaks tangentially within the other topics.
actually some only think have vast knowledge...often hard to separate fact from opinion...while it's easy to ignore, too often a discussion is taken in a completely different direction and becomes worthless...

Second when the moderators DO delete post, normally at the request of the "delete the post crew" a bunch of sissies, wearing MENS, boxers. Be a stand up person.. Go commando, no boxers, no panties. Just suck it up... Be adult... 90+ % are, but there are the, "why don't you just shut the fuc& up" crew too... Nothing but noise in the background, worthless, treat the trash the way they act... Print the crap out and, Wipe the dogs ass with it.... I'm for that, behind the seen revenge.
At least one has stopped, 20,000 + worthless post, I never got so sick of the 3 or 4 that ALWAYS, join hands and start, wasting space.

BUT I try to be a gentleman. Make sure my guest FEEL safe, and ARE secure.. Rare!!! maybe but it was the way I was taught. Thanks to my Mother and my Father in law. Wonderful folks.
I can honestly say, in the history of all my forum participations,I have never once,ever requested that someone’s post be removed. Last I checked,both testicles are in place. Their hanging a little lower at my age,but hey,ya can’t have everything. I also think that you might not get the gist of what I am trying to convey. I’m not talking about anybody having anything deleted. Let me explain it this way. When I was a kid,I used to watch football with my dad.(God rest his soul) He absolutely could not stand Howard Cosell. So what would dad do? He wouldn’t change the channel,he would get up and turn the volume off. That’s right,I remember when tv’s didn’t have remotes. So my dad and I would watch the game with out own commentary. I just thought I would be nice to have a “mute” button for some members. So like my dad,I would like to turn the volume off on the Howard Cosell’s around here. No one would be censored or deleted publicly, just on my screen. Sorry if some people don’t agree with my opinion. Feel free to block me.

I don't think Tammy appreciated the f-bomb. I was raised in an Irish/English (1st generation American) household so that's par for the course for me but I knew it was just a matter of time before it went.....poof!

Really, we’re talking about the guy who in this thread alone has:

I do find it interesting that he immediately knew everyone was talking about him. Was it the reference to rubbing a dogs nose in it? Maybe the 40 grit abrasiveness? Even he knows "If the shoe fits...."
I know it might not help much but there actually is a facility to block members from your threads. But it only exists for the Insiders and only if that thread is created to only be visible to Insiders. Then you CAN block certain members from even participating. In Theory. I don't think anyone has actually tried it.

As a side note, a number of countries with abundant nudist beaches and similar culture taught Marxism in school. Those other ones were often called Puritans and were not much fun.
Many who are not good enough to assert themselves in real life do it on social media. They are not worthy of anyone's attention. They stick out like a sore thumb on any blog, no matter the subject. Just do as suggested, ignore them, bypass their posts and live a fuller life.

I think he's probably like this in real life actually. It's just that he requires constant validation to keep his demons at bay....latent insecurities and general life unhappiness. Someone needs to be blamed for how he feels - and that's what we are used for - a target to direct his life frustrations and assert his higher worth compared to the rest of the earth's humans.
You almost got it right. But don’t just block, do what your Pop’s, Mom, Grands or big brother and sister taught you. When the bully hits you - you hit the bully in the nose. Don’t take their crap - at all.
There are quite a few here who use this blog kinda like liquor. They know they can hide behind the internet and say what they want cause it gives them courage when they know darn well they would not say those things to you in person.
So you hang in there. There is a lot to learn here from some fantastic posters who are willing and able to teach in a respectful courteous manner.
Besides, if someone here has tried you - and you still are here? Sounds like to me you already know what to do. That’s part of the learning process here - just like everything else in life.
Sometimes the really hard part is letting or should I say leading the jerk to actually let them know it's ok to just be cool and not be such an ass. But that's only if they have the capacity to listen.
So don't be afraid to speak your mind and ask your questions. There really are some great folks here.
