Is this a new trend?
@pkatsuleas I had to kick in a little cash to make it work
Have you reached your end point with this addictive hobby?
I know it's only rock n' roll but I like it.  I have no plans to quit the pursuit.  It's fun and mind expanding.
The Sacred Ritual of Vinyl: A Return to Mindful Listening
Nicely written and fun! 🤩  I lost my collection to a divorce- she pitched them all out. Now to scrounge up a loose 50k to add analogue to my system.
Who has gone fully active? What speakers and preamp did you end up with?
I added a set of Bryston T-10 active this January.  What makes them "active" is the BAX-1 crossover and 6 channels of amplification. To be honest my mid and high are via an ARC amp and I used Bryston 7BSST monos (700 watts) for the bass drivers- ...
I found a way to get around tariffs that will raise the price of audio equipment.
.....Or just buy American made gear. There is plenty of really top quality gear made here. Americans are the King of preamps, and arguably power amps as well.  On another note bespoke gear is so overpriced these days (gee thanks Mr. Levenson) tha...
Is this a new trend?
I traded my Wilson Chronosonics in on a righteous set of 1993 Realistic Minimus 7s.  My Slim Whitman records never sounded so good!
Disagreements and Conflicts between Audiophiles have we lost our brotherhood and maturity?
There is a coarsening in our American culture. Rude, crude, selfish, crass and obnoxious is more and more commonplace today than when my old arse got into the hobby in 1978.  There is also a lack of shame. Acting badly is no longer shamed or asha...
Need to learn about Audio Research
It's hard to argue with you here Smith. There is a little magic in the Ref 6.  To my ear the 5SE sounds better- but I like French Vanilla and you may like Rum Raisin.  Alternatively, a Ref 5 or 6 are most like a straight wire compared to many- ie...
Need to learn about Audio Research
I have been a customer of Magnepan and ARC since 1978. I currently on a set of 3.7x Maggies. ( I LOVE THEM!! )  I currently drive my Maggies with both a set of Bryston 7BSST Monoblocks and an ARC VT130SE Amp.  Here is my 45 years of experience w...
Anybody having trouble getting near-your-asking-price for used gear ? (Plz. no hype)
It looks like everybody is experiencing the same thing I am. About 25% of MSRP (except one dealer here who gets 50% of retail on 19 year old gear).  To be fair dealers have financing, trade ins, etc. so maybe he did.  My dealer gave me $3000 credi...
Question for Atma-sphere, will expensive power cables improve your amplifiers?
I've had a hard time testing said cables.  Plugging in, listening, swapping, repowering ad nauseum....... then my ability to discern gets mushy. "Recency bias" colors my perception.  I asked the same question to ARC once. "Why don't you give me t...

There are some really thoughtful and honest responses here. I really appreciate the insights.
What do the statistics say about the age of Audiophiles and the replacement rate?
Do you believe the people who design, build and sell audio gear don't want young female buyers?
I should start with speakers. This I know. I’d like to establish a new system.
$20K budget means you will need to buy used to get max value. Even then you are going to have to be a sharp negotiator.  I'd start with listening to different speakers where you can- dealer, friend, etc. Listen to the leaders in their class- ie: ...
My Analog Journey - Opinions Sought
I love 'em both!  I went all digital a while back and now I'm longing for the vinyl experience again. About $50K outa do it. Now to find the money without Mrs. missing it.....
