Are manufacturers having discussions removed from Audiogon if they turn negative?

I have mostly been taking part of this forum occasionally, and from a distance if you will.  I have to admit I don't really know the kind of things that can go on, disputes or disagreements that can occur.  I have occasionally done searches in this forum using the search function to only come upon a thread that has been removed, oddly enough.

I have seen some discussions, and taken part in some others that become somewhat of a debate on certain brands, and they have become critical in some instances.  Usually fans of the brand in question rush to the defence, and from what I've seen, a healthy discourse occurs, with back and forth and occasional posts removed.  I'm thinking of smaller internet direct manufacturers such as your Emotivas, Schiit Audio, Ascend Acoustics and the like.

What I'm wondering is, have such companies had negative discussions stopped or removed?  Has anyone been part of similar discussions in which moderators suddenly step in and either lock or completely remove a discussion?

My impression is that the mods remove threads when they become hostile or no longer remain on topic. Often times, they give a warning before deleting the discussion.
I been on a number of deleted discussions, and they got removed due to the above reasons.

Audiocircle does this more because many if not all of the manufacturer forums are fanboy types, once a person starts to talk about real troubles with equipment the moderator, usually an owner of the manufactured product removes the thread (discussion). They can, and have in many cases, banned a poster from discussions of their products.
You mean specifically the Tekton thread about their inadequate customer service. I’ve read several threads that were much, much more vitriolic than anything posted there that remain to this day. I speculate it was showing the company in a very bad light and the owner asked to have it removed. Again, just speculation. If someone who knows why for a fact would chime in.....
It appears that you’re right. I added my two cents about the Tekton thread yesterday, and the entire thread disappeared by the end of the day. The admins here probably don’t pull every negative thread, only when a particular product attracts an avalanche of well-deserved criticism. The thread you mentioned probably fit that description.

A moderator posted in that thread yesterday that it was deleted by the OP, not the moderators. Whether the criticism of Tekton was well-deserved or not is a matter of some debate, hence the activity in that thread.

That's what I've observed here.
Interesting, thanks everyone.  The Tekton thread was what I’d noticed recently, but have occasionally seen other threads with similar actions.  I’d say that this forum is much better than what typically happens at say AVS or some of the other forums.
Yes, the AudioGon moderator said the thread was removed by the OP. I assume he has reached an agreement with Mr. Alexander. That thread exposed, Tekton has a good product and loyal followers, their customer service department, might need some attention. Hope the OP will finally get his speakers.
It was a weird thread.
Both the OP and Mr. Alexander never revealed all the details of the order, and why it went the way it did.
Anyhoo, I hope both parties have reached a mutually satisfactory agreement.

When a customer has to resort to going public on a forum like this to get some traction on his prepaid order, that is a pretty sad reflection of how the manufacturer values his customers and reflects directly on their service.
I hope this person gets his speakers, falls in love with them and puts this all in the rear view mirror.Truth be told, lots of people read that, and will think twice about supporting a business that gives the customer the business. This manufacturer really owes this person  a sincere apology  backed up by a goodwill offering of a 10% refund for being a PITA.

How do you know what this “customer” is telling the truth or making stuff up to make the “manufacturer” look bad because he himself is another speaker rep? I think it’s BS from the start! Instead of being a whining baby on this site, perhaps talk to the manufacturer and work it out! I hate wimps and whiners! I’ve delt with this “manufacturer” on a few occasions and know 100% they DO NOT ignore customers. All I see is lies being spread!! GROW UP an make a simple call. Some of you guys sound like little kids! It’s a wonder you made it this far in life!!! 🙄
Greg,
From reading some of your previous posts in other threads, it is clear you are a Tekton fanboy. That is great that you own and enjoy them, however others are not so enamored and have had experiences other than yours. Your post above is out of line and maybe it is you that is whining, just saying.
Agreed, Greg’s post above is needlessly inflammatory and no longer objective. Ignore it and move on with the discussion.
I had a very bad experience with a manufacturer. His business is a niche sized in the audio world. I am here to tell you, despite my repeated efforts over not months but years I just got ripped off and he was unwilling to admit the faults of his amps and preamps. I lost a lot of money and every time someone asked questions about his gear in a forum, I spoke about my experience. So NO not everybody in the manufacturing world will help a buyer when they have a problem. To my amazement, this guy did not want to honor his work and did not have a problem risking his reputation. New sales are a high priority for some brands, customer service and customer satisfaction are a low priority for some of those same brands.

@gregb63- Your responses are a prime example of why posts and threads get deleted. You call people ’idiots’ and ’liars’, and how they ’sicken’ you simply because they’ve had a different experience than you when dealing with Tekton. We get it. You adore Tekton and anyone who thinks and says differently can’t possibly be telling the truth. How interesting and amusing. How did you reach this conclusion? Do you really believe this is a coordinated conspiracy among certain forum members who are secretly reps for other speaker companies to damage the reputation of your precious Tekton? That your belief is more plausible than they are simply folks who have had negative experiences when dealing with Tekton’s less than stellar reputation for customer service? Again, how interesting and amusing. You must be a blast to have a live conversation with....Oh! Almost forgot. You’ve dealt with Tekton on a ’few’ occasions and know 100% that they don’t ignore customers? Please explain how you can possibly know that. I can’t wait for your intelligent, eloquent response....Darnit! Forgot this one...You state that how do we not know that the ’customer’ isn’t making up the entire episode of his negative experience with the company simply to make it look bad, and it is all a ’a load of BS’. You then proceed to say he should just call the company to work it out. Well, which one is it??! Is he lying or does he have a legitimate problem?? You seem a bit confused by the whole thing.
I think it's valuable to expose poor workmanship or service from a company, just as it's important to praise good workmanship and service where appropriate.  Just keep it honest, civil, and don't use it as a substitute for dealing directly with the company.  I have had some disappointments, but I handled them all privately, and was more or less pleased with the outcome.  If I was ultimately satisfied but it took too much work on my part to get there, I usually just avoid any posts about the experience, good or bad.  My 2 cents.
Then stop talking crap! I joined this to talk about gear I’m interested in. Not hear all you worthless comments and unsubstantiated accusations. But apparently this site is for those who think they know everything about anything. When you get rid of the rifraf I’ll rejoin and see if there is anything worth reading.. I think a lot of people here are just bored.. thanks..
I too had noticed the Tekton thread, and was interested because I had thought about Tekton speakers. I just found something else, but I think the Tekton speakers would have been excellent. So when the thread was closed, I too contacted the moderators, and as mentioned, was told the OP closed the thread. I suggested that maybe in such a situation Audiogon could make the notation that the OP chose to close the discussion, and they said they would take my suggestion into consideration. And of course, I too hope both the OP and Tekton work everything out amicably, as it seems the OP has been more than patient.

I must also point out the humorous irony in gregb63’s comment:

40 posts01-14-2019 8:19amYou guys are idiots! You sit here and bash everything. Get a life!!

In order to clarify the irony for Greg, calling "you guys" (everybody here) idiots is actually "bash(ing) everything." So ...

@gregb63- No, thank YOU sir! Curious as to why you didn’t answer a single question I asked you to clarify your position on things. But, I must say, your responses do not disappoint. You are an interesting and amusing fellow! I’m a bit confused about your last post. Why do you feel we are ’talking crap’ and our comments are worthless? That unsubstantiated accusations are flying? What makes your comments more legitimate than the others? I sincerely would like to know. It casts you in a poor light when you hurl insults and accusations at others without backing up your statements. Please clarify the thinking behind your posts. Allow me to thank you again for the irony of your delightfully contradictory posts....
@gregb63- If you are seeking employment, perhaps you could work in Tekton's Customer Relations Department. You seem a perfect fit for the company!

gregb63  You’re funny!

We certainly know where you stand! However, like the Tekton’s that lose their sweet-spot when a listener stands up… please remain seated while posting.

I too have noticed there have been other discussions removed.  I thought this forum was to discuss what is really happening out there.  People need to know both the positive and the negative.

For example, I have experienced problems with Paradigm.  I had a question about my Paradigm Prestige 85F's being designed as a 2 1/2 way vs a 3 way and they refused to get back to me.  When I called them, the customer service person was rude as well.  I would be curious if others have experienced the same.  I am sure this discussion will also be removed.

@thecarpathian,
That was really funny!!!

I would like to thank each and everyone of you contributors.  I read all the posts, rarely comment.  @thecarpathian, thank you for your even handed responses, and bits of humor over the negativity.  Sold audio equipment in 1973, and still have so much to learn.  Thank you Audiogon and all the folks that post.
@dwmaggie- Welcome! You'll actually find a lot of useful information on these threads, plus the added bonus of people like gregb63 and their invaluable input....

Man, we are sure gonna miss your prosaic posts.   Please come back soon!!

If you don't like what you're reading, just log out.  And don't read it.   Instead of "whining" (your term, how ironic).
Gentlemen and Ladies,
It is this kind of banter that gets threads deleted.
I know some posters can post something that gets your kickers in a twist, but, think before you post. Most times, just using a logical retort can put them in their place.
We are all better than this...

I think guys showing up on the scene casting absurd doubt on legitimate complaints and issues is nothing more than bullying. I think that jazz should be dealt with harshly.
It's not at all clear that the claim raised in that thread was legitimate. Within the group's rules, everyone is free to post here, even if you think they "should be dealt with harshly."
What's clear is that complaints of really bad customer non service by Tekton have been an oft repeated refrain in this forum.  Too many for it to be a non issue.

The OP in that thread was not ranting and raving about his experience, he actually seemed pretty level headed for someone who'd given $12000 of his hard earned cash and then seem nothing for five months.  At the very least, taking the customer's money before you even start building the speakers, that's a poor business practice.

It's funny how no matter how outrageous Tekton treats some customers, fanboys will claim it's no big deal.  And then the Tekton owner shows up to try to change the narrative(I wouldn't be surprised if he asked the customer to have the thread closed and promised the speakers would be ready in "7 to 10 days").  He should try changing his record instead, one customer at a time.

It would be nice if the person that posted the original $12,000 Tekton, failure to ship thread, posted here when or if he ever received the speakers.

I can add that individual post in certain ’commercially driven’ ie to sell that product threads, particularly the black goo and the magic bits of paper threads are being controlled by the folks who offer the gizmos for sale.
In practice, I think it's the moderators that control the threads. But they will delete off-topic posts, or deliberately argumentative posts, if alerted.
The posts removed for obscenities etc by the audiogon staff leave behind the empty spacer, the posts otherwise removed leave no trace.
Are you sure? I've never noticed that.

Given that the user had just joined Audiogon before creating that thread, that his few posts were confined to that thread, and that he then deleted his own thread (according to the moderators), it's not likely we'll be hearing from him again. This forum gets these "drive by" users every so often and their claims are often suspect, as in this instance.

Never noticed?? Plenty of threads, particularly the 'why power cords, or interconnect' type threads have a lot of small blank spaces between remaining posts where the obscenities and personal insult type posts have been removed.
Oh yes, I've noticed that for sure. I thought you meant that some posts were deleted so as to leave no evidence. I'm sorry if I misunderstood you.
The off topic are not generally removed.. unless complained about AND the moderator agrees.
Yes, agreed.
...the Tekton thread ... vanished, I would guess it was done by the op of the thread.
That is what a moderator stated.

To mention/ YES there ARE posts being deleted and LEAVE NO EVIDENCE ...
I haven't noticed this, but have no reason to doubt you. It seems very odd, and not a good practice on A-gon's part.

A few years ago an amp builder, speaker and electronics builder sold me some gear. We had a dispute about how he shipped it. He literally got on here and told a lie concerning the transaction. I called him on it and the whole thread mysteriously disappeared.

I talked to some of my industry insider friends and they told me strait up manufacturers can “PAY”for protection. So when you see some of these companies with grade-A 100% transaction ratings take it with a grain of salt. They removed my rating of less than satisfied with the pxx company. I was told about this practice from multiple people in the industry (no, I will not out my buddies) and it’s been an industry secret for years.

Some of these manufacturers deserve there excellent ratings and I’m hoping it’s more than not, but with some of them it is a curated score.

“...Discussions removed....if they turn negative “
An important distinction here is truth, honesty, facts and reality. If your post is negative but is truthful, factual and based in reality than it should not be removed. But those are just the kind of posts that would be removed. Manufacturers don’t want that honest bad stuff to get out. If they cut corners, place bad batches of transformers or capacitors in equipment to save money and that equipment develops problems they don’t want to take responsibility. If the negative posts are not factual, not honest or real I think the manufacturer has a right to get rid of it.
I have been in contact with the OP of the original thread and he said this yesterday:
" They did send me pictures of their progress, and emailed me every day since then. They actually shipped today."
There's nothing wrong with posting about an actual true negative experience. What's wrong is when 99% of the other posters spew nonsense and try to pass it off as fact. It's simply gossip. If it goes on long enough it becomes slander.
The important point is that it took the posting of the thread and all the comments to spur them into action.  Otherwise...….
