Lets keep it under $7,000 used, but interested to hear what used speakers rarely get listed for sale because they are so sought after and if they do appear they get snapped up very quickly? Cheers
Ctsooner you have a good point but what comes to mind when I interpret this question is that these speakers typically sell in a matter of a few days or a week. I can think of a few examples of two such speakers currently for sale however they both look like they’ve been through a wood chipper. If they were in 8/10 they’d be long gone. Can anyone name one that I’m thinking?
Guys one of the biggest reasons you may not see some speakers for sale is because they really didn't sell many if any. You'd be amazed at some speaker companies making us think they sell X number of a model when in fact they aren't selling many at all. That happens to even some of the 'larger' name companies. Often times a model just won't sell for many reasons. I was talking with a manufacture of electronics about this today as I found it an interesting post.
I honestly feel that if a speaker is really good, that you won't see it on the market that often as most will keep it. That said, this is also audio where so many change their components like some change underwear, lol.
If a speaker has been out for many many years, then you will obviously see it being sold as there are just sooo many of them and anything can eventually get long in the tooth due to newer tech adn materials etc...
I also see a ton of some companies speakers always available as they change their designation every couple of years. Wilson comes to mind. Takes nothing away from their speakers, but that they change models often.
Got you all beat, I suggest you look up Cornscala's - pretty rare in itself and you rarely see used ones because they are too hard to part with................I know from experience!
Its interesting to note that while many other other models have come and gone over the past 10 years Silverline is still making this model yet it rarely comes up for sale used. I've had mine for over 7 years now and they sure aren't going anywhere. One of my best audio purchases, perhaps even better that my ARC SP 10 which I kept for over 30 years. :-)
Pair of Silverline Bolero speakers just listed. This is a great speaker folks. So musical and unfussy. Great with tubes or SS. Rather easy to drive and wonderful music makers. I have only seen two sets in the past several years.
Lirpa Labs is a fictitious company used as a joke since the old Audio magazine's October issues which listed almost every audio product made at the time. Maybe even before that, but I don't know.
Infinity 2000A's and Monitor 1A's. Great speakers from the early years of Arnie Nudell's company. The 2000A was a 3 way design using a 12 inch woofer, Peerless cone mid and 3 RTR electrostatic tweeters. The Monitor 1A was a 3 way in a taller narrower reflex cabinet using a 12 inch woofer, a Peerless dome mid and a Walsh tweeter (the size and shape of an ice cream cone!). Both models sound superb. I own both.
I guess my Lawrence Audio Double Bass Speakers would make this list since they have only shipped 5 pairs to America, this info is from 3 of the 4 remaining Lawrence dealers here and also a email from Lawrence audio confirmed this.
Don’t get confused about some speakers showing up less for sale on the used market. It’s simply a matter of total units sold. The more units sold the more show up for resale.
Dynaudio Confidence 5............... The most perferct mid range speaker ever ........ NEVER SEE THEM......... Better than any other Dynaudio for mid range joy.........
Ruark Excalibur& Solstice were indeed a fantastically musical speakers, probably the most musical Brit speakers ever.. Sadly very few of those, if any, were ever sold in the US..
Oh jeez! I just had a response to this thread removed, presumably because I mentioned an item (long since sold) that I saw advertised on the other website where gear is bought and sold. That is really ridiculous!
I’ve only seen 2 pairs of Dali Epicon 6’s for sale anywhere, and my friend grannyring bought one pair.
I haven’t seen any of the Epicon 8’s at all, probably a good thing because I will want them. They are a very new design but give it Time there will be some.
Extemas used to come up fairly regularly years ago, but no more. Early in the thread, someone mentioned Diapason Adamantes. There was a beautiful pair of the special edition ones for sale here a couple of months ago for a reasonable price that I couldn't afford. Anyway, for months the was a very nice pair of version III (the latest) on USAudiomart with stands (!) for $2200. I was waiting to sell something so I could buy them (sound familiar?), and the day that I had the money in hand, I emailed the seller...he sold them that day. My heart sank. They are a truly great speaker. I was dying to hear them with my 300b amp. Maybe some day.
Here's a super rare speaker that would be simply killer to pick up used:
Waveform Mach Solo.
That was the slightly smaller, passive version of the famous Waveform Mach 17 speakers by John Otvos. The Mach 17s were one of the most amazing sounding speakers I've ever heard and earned tons of raves. But they were large, somewhat odd looking with the "egg" module on top, and required 3 amplifiers.
So Otvos came out with that Mach Solo speaker, which was actually more gracefully proportioned and came with John's absolutely top notch wood work, with exotic veneers. I had one in my place for a while and it was almost museum quality and sounded awesome.
But you almost NEVER see them come up for sale, both because not a lot were sold and also, I'm sure, no one would want to part with theirs.
The only used pair I've ever seen came up in the last few years, where Otvos sold off his own pair.
@cakids, Agreed on the AP Scorpios. I owned a pair in ebony for a while and the were one of the most attractive speakers I've seen. Plus they sounded great. A real bargain for high end sound and aesthetics if you can find them used.
Ridge Street Audio - Sasson - An incredibly good stand-mount speaker that was probably under-priced new @ $10K when it was on the market. I don't know how many Robert sold, but you never see them for sale anymore. I heard them in 3 different settings and all were fantastic.
DeVore Fidelity Silverbacks - an excellent
product
in every way. Great Value! Although I have auditioned them on several occasions, they have eluded my possession. The reason being - owners appreciating their value in a used market, which at various times was just out of my reach.
