Tim Bachman of BTO passed at 71

Guitarist from Bachman Turner Overdrive was added to the growing list of lost musicians last Friday. He had been fighting cancer and succumbed just a few days ago April 28th. BTO was a big influence on my rock tastes in music and it saddens me to see so many of my generation passing. Not that they were still making music, but that an era that contributed to my love for music is closing each year.

@tony1954

And what are we left with?

A bunch of flaccid, soulless, money-grubbing, fame-seeking plagiarists.

Ever wonder why there are so many "oldies" radio stations?

That is entirely wrong. The list of phenomenal and unique musicians is larger than you can imagine. You've just only been too deep into the RnR with the stereotype just quoted above. I've lived in many areas of USA and only noted few oldies around so never found any oddities there. Besides, not really interested in neither Elvis or Donnie and Marie or even Cher.

BTO was solid and produced many epic songs in their day. The Guess Who’s Undun rates with the best of the best rock/jazz songs of the era -- IMHO.

Some threads invite colorful, lively polical conversation (What Became of Magister?). This one not so much.

I’m also a "car guy" and belong to a club of enthusiasts who have a fondness for a little 60’s British sports car powered by a Ford V8 engine. Our annual get togethers involve members from all over North America, with (I assume) a vast mix of political idealogies. 3 days of cars, fun, and loving life -- and, each other. No one waiting in the bushes to ambush another member’s politics.

As far as "snippets" that occur here, it reminds me of something I learned a while back. A problem is like an AC motor. It has poles that push and pull an armature to keep the motor spinning. Remove either "push" OR the "pull", the motor stops spinning and the problem goes away. So, when there’s a "push" we can choose to keep the motor "spinning" or just resist the "opportunity" to insert the "pull" and let the problem go away on its own. Our choice.

"Once you post any political realms, you just lost all credibility with any and all who disagree with you. Why would you bring that to an audio forum? "

Good question.

I also belong to the Acoustic Guitar Forum. Either it's rigorously moderated or folks over there are actually more interested in talking about guitars than trading insults. (What a concept!)  I've perused it pretty much every day over the course of a year and have yet to encounter a single political reference.

@audioman58   "Randy Bachman was he main talent"

True, but the one immortal cut is "Blue Collar," written and performed by Charles Turner, with an extraordinary jazz guitar break from Bachman.

Otherwise, calling the President a "senile pervert" is completely out of order. Biden's performance at the WH Correspondent Dinner dispelled any charges of senility, and the "pervert" bit is outright slanderous. BASED ON WHAT? No reputable forum can allow defamation of this kind go unchallenged.

Being in a rock band never was good for you health.  Touring and such.  Think about all the guys who died around age70.  Allman, Lou Reed, many others.

He didn't pass, he died or he is dead, take your pick. Don't like skirting around the subject matter with niceties.

Randy Bachman was he main talent , the song you ain’t seen nothing yet was a song about his brother for he had a little studder when young and made the song

kind of like a joke and it turned into a smash hit , also Randy  and Burton Cummings just clicked to make the excellent Guess Who band.

Bto had plenty of great songs and guess who was even better. No wonder i rarely post on here. What a bunch of classless tards. Bringup some stupid  allegations have nothing to do with the post shame on you.

Also to tony1954’s point,I would add, then why are so many classic rock albums being remastered and re-released on audiophile pressings? It’s what I listen too 85-90 percent of the time, if I’m dead, rigor hasn’t set in….completely.

"In fact Rock N Roll is pretty much dead."

BTO was a Very good band in their day , the sex misconduct has little to do with BTO accomplishments ,you have a senile pervert for a president, let’s leave it at that ,let the man RIP,  Thankyou BTO for the great memories Not Fragile was their biggest commercial success, but BTO with let it ride was equally good 👍

If minor is 16 or older, those cases often dropped no biggie. Other than that never cared about him or BTO.

It's a time for classic rock musicians to go one by one or together. In fact Rock N Roll is pretty much dead.

@cleeds

Yes, after looking further, he wasn't convicted, but charged twice. Looks like he might have been working overtime, but underage.

roxy54

... he was twice convicted of sexual contact with a minor

I do not think he was ever convicted of any of the allegations made against him.

I was totally unaware. Disappointed that anyone resorts to such crimes against children. As if the world isn't enough of a challenge for a child.

Thanks for sharing. It's not like he was a hero. I was just sad to see another loss to my musical path to date. And a question of my own life span.
