Sexy singer(s) and/or song(s)
Some may consider such a subject beneath them (or contempt). I respect that attitude, but ask that in that instance you just stay out of the conversation. You are of course free to ignore that request. There is a place for sacred music, but also profane. ;-)
While still in elementary school, one of the first albums I heard was Naughty But Nice by Pearl Bailey. It was my mother’s, who also had albums by Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley. She was not your average suburban mother: she liked to go up to San Francisco to take in the burlesque and female impersonator shows in North Beach. She also sunbathed by our backyard pool, nude. She was of the WWII generation (born in 1923), but I think if she had been born ten years later would have been a beatnik, or at least bohemian. I considered her a delightful role model; my father (whose musical taste ran to Andy Williams and Perry Como) disagreed. ;-)
With that prologue, the first overtly sexual singer and song that caught my attention was Maria Muldaur and her hit "Midnight At The Oasis". I was quite envious when a San Jose acquaintance of mine got a job in her band. Slightly later was Maryann Price (Dan Hicks And His Hot Licks) with her seductive performance on the classic Johnny Mercer song "I’m An Old Cowhand (From The Rio Grande)". I don’t know what’s sexy about, I just know it is. More recently there was Joan Osborne’s smokin’ version of Slim Harpo’s "Shake Your Hips"; ironically, Jagger’s tame performance of the song makes him sound like the p*ssy.
But all of the above pale in comparison to Lucinda Williams’ utterly salacious song and likewise singing of: "Essence" (with double entendre lyrics). My God, what woman. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but she has great wide hips, and a very lanky frame, both of which I’m a sucker for.
Anybody else? ;-)

Hands down and far and away the most *erotic* music I've ever heard was sung by Najma Akhtar from her album "Qareeb." Can't understand a single word; she's singing ghazals in Urdu. Ghazals are subtly erotic poems from South Asia & Arabia which are ALWAYS sung by men to women. A woman singing them is OUTRAGEOUS and VERY transgressive. Well Najma nails it and the music is spare, snakey sinuous, exotic, and SO erotic. Nothing else like it. From the vinyl: https://youtu.be/AHEUkkUjNmk |
Man, how could I have forgotten about "I Touch Myself"? Can’t get any more blatant than that! @lg1, for more of ABBA’s Agnetha Faltskog (what a name ;-), watch her YouTube video of "When You Walk In The Room". There is also one of Jackie DeShannon (the song’s writer) lip-synching the song in ’64 on The Lloyd Thaxton Show (old guys will remember that show), doing some cool dancing as she does. Sam Phillips (T Bone Burnett’s ex-wife) always sang with a very coy "little lost girl" look on her face, which was pretty titillating. Before going secular, she had a career in the Contemporary Christian field (!), as did Julie Miller (Buddy’s wife and collaborator), another fetching singer. I hear a lot of femaleness in the singing of Patsy Cline. Real good for a white girl, but for me nobody comes close to Darlene Love. Girl power!
Anybody else find Kasey Chambers seductive? Very hot, but also a good songwriter and singer. Romantic is a different thing. I've been in love with Tammy Wynette for a very long time. |
geoffkait, They didn't ask you about sexy listener. From the thread What is playing on your system tonight...

The sexiest song I ever heard was in French. Can't remember the name now. These will do. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsjT2SyWemg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4ZyCPhVvvM Cheers |
Verging towards politically incorrect: I don't know about sexy, but "I Touch Myself" by Divinyls is about the most overtly sexual song I have heard on the airwaves. When I think sexy music (whatever that means to each of us) I think of performers like Diana Krall and maybe Blondie, Susanna Hoffs. But many great female vocalists are sexy: the great Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Joni Mitchell, Rikki Lee Jones, etc. All sexy in their own way. |
Johnny Mathis singing "Misty". I know, some people will prefer Nat King Cole, but there's a response to that. |
There are some good singers named here already, including Tina Turner. But for a song that’s explicitly about sex, it’s difficult to surpass the long version of Donna Summer’s "Love to Love You, Baby," even though it's certainly not my style. It surprised me that it got radio airplay back when it was a hit. |
