Buchardt e50 reviews
No experience with the new E50s but I do own a pair of A10s. They do exacly what I need them to do and more and they sound great for the $$$.
Analogue front end. You want more weight, scale and dynamics.Where do you start upgrading?
The biggest change to a turntable is always the cartridge. Always. You will need to ensure that the cartridge is compatible with the tonearm and phono stage, SUT and/or head amp. The second biggest change to improve your analog setup is... speake...
Movie/film suggestions.
A Portland-based radio station has a segment called The Score. KQAC 88.9. Nothing but great movie music with excellent commentary by the host Edmund Stone. Airs Saturday and Sunday afternoons at 2pm. You don't need to be local, I believe they are...
Help me pick a new desktop speaker
My wife is a musician and sings in a Master Chorus. She needed (OK, wanted) a pair of desktop speakers for her work desk, which she also uses to listen and occasionally record sample tracks. I ended up getting her a pair of JBL 305P MkIIs monitors...
Which sounds better 2 way or 3 way speaker design
I agree with @knotscott - quality of the speaker design, parts and manufacturing matter most. But all things being equal (which is almost never true) I prefer a great 2-way design with CD horns to 3-way. I have owned a lot of great 3-way speakers ...
Starting my showroom again
I have to agree with the previous folks who posted. It's a gamble and only you can decide if it's doable and worth the risk. FWIW, I was a dealer for a few years, between 2011 and 2017. Before that I restored vintage turntables and tube gear, unt...
Can You Trust a Shipper? (UPS, Fed-Ex, etc)
I understand your frustration, but I have some different thoughts about your comments. 1. Yes, shippers suck. But not very much. They are large corporate monsters and they can't help it. 2. Almost all sellers suck. That is, most sellers can't pa...
Sophia Electric is not honest
@wfowenmd I understand your frustration but we should avoid condemning a company that produces a whole line of audio electronics just because a Chinese-made tube failed prematurely. All tubes fail, sometimes randomly. And in my experience all Chin...
Integrated S.E.T Amp and Bookshelf Speakers Recommendations
JM Reynaud speakers are wonderful. I enjoyed many hours listening to a pair of Offrande Model 1s. But high efficiency, suitable for low watt tube amps they ain't.
Integrated S.E.T Amp and Bookshelf Speakers Recommendations
I agree with @yogiboy, Harbeth's wouldn't be on my list for a low wattage tube amp. Another story if you were considering  a 35wpc+ PP amp. The Audio Notes are great speakers but they are not for everyone. I love them but some guys feel that they...
High end bookshelf speakers for Small room
@saurabhgarg I would recommend a different solution for a small, almost square room. The Larsen 4 speakers work wonderfully in almost any room. They sit smack against the wall and project a large soundstage behind them. I used to sell these and I ...
Audiogon seller's question
It used to be easy to sell here, the other audio sites or on eBay. I'm talking 10+ years ago or so. Now it's scammers or unscrupulous buyers galore. I will only sell if the buyer pays via PayPal F&F, Venmo or direct bank transfer. I understand...
Technics MK2 > Pear Audio Blue Integrated Amp
@mitaliano You mean a phono preamp, I assume. No line preamp required with the Pear Audio integrated amp. If you're planning to run MM you don't necessarily need anything really super elaborate. The Croft (or Pear Audio) would be ideal but as you...
George Wright
George Wright didn't publish schematics, unfortunately.
Source for Garrard 301 plinth (and other 301 questions)
@dcindc plinths for idler wheel turntables require some thought put into their design if you are interested in wrestling the best performance out of your deck. Why? Because these decks (301/401, TD-124, various Lenco models) transmit energy differ...
