Quantum Science Audio Thread

This is a thread for those who wish to discuss Quantum Science Audio products of all types.
tommylion
t_ramey,
I am using the red on a Lumin X1.

leicachamp,
If you can, also apply the NPS 1260 on the end caps for even more improvement.

ozzy
Thanks Ozzy

i have been using Stabilant, the stuff HIgh Fidelity was using. Is it similar to the NPS 1260?

Anyone trying out the Yellow fuses really do need to burn it in for at least 150hrs before they jump to any conclusions.

With the Blues I felt they were improving until around the 400hr mark . Which was approx 4 weeks in my system.
There is a specific direction to put your QSA fuses in that I published somewhere earlier in this thread.  There was a lot of discussion on another thread which has disappeared today on a prototype fuse that is coming out next month.  Given the debate on that other thread I am willing to give the SR orange fuses another try but absolutely don't want to mess with trying to figure out which way the SR orange fuses go.  I am functionally blind and it is a pain in the ass for me to even install in the first place.  For the people with experience with the SR orange, is there a direction that you would start with or know that it works?  Would it be the same premise as QSA?
What you said earlier was when looking at the IEC with ground below the fuse (power)  goes R to L. That works with mine on everything I have tried so far.

It is a beautiful day in the neighborhood, except for the deletion of posts for no apparent reason. Thin skin, anyone?

With SR fuses it seem to be hit and miss on directionality. Do you have a friend that can help you?

Frank
leicachamp,
The Stabilant 22 is very good at keeping corrosion at bay. I started using it before the NPS 1260. I now use the Stabilant 22 on outdoor tractor equipment.
The NPS 1260 is a very different liquid, it will lower the noise floor.

oregonpapa,
I have had many posts and a few threads deleted also by the Audiogon censors. For a while in protest, I went back and was deleting my past posts.

ozzy

Ozzy ...

I don't get it. Why was my prototype thread completely deleted? I've asked for an explanation, and have gotten nothing but silence. And the post that was deleted here, was exactly like the one above to willgolf. Go figure.

Mods ... if you're reading this, how about putting the prototype fuse thread back up? Thanks ...

Frank
Frank

To me your thread was a one man marketing thread to push sales towards a certain company.

All the impressions was by you and so called golden ear friends whom heard exactly what you heard. Whom by the way did not post to say what they heard, even though you say they are Audiogon members. All we got was you telling us that they heard exactly what you heard!

The thread was not a discussion nor was it very helpful. It was a one man thread
First you raves about QSA yellow fuse that was the best thing to your ears. So good your other friends got the yellows as well. Then you did a 180 saying it was not musical and as expected your friends heard exactly what you heard!!!

Then magically a prototype fuse appears that surprise surprise comes to your hands that addresses ALL the negatives of the Yellow. Which as we remember was the best you heard in your system until just before the prototype appeared.

This QSA thread is different. It’s a thread where many are sharing our thoughts and experiences of a product we have and that we have no direct association with the manufacture !!
leicachamp ...

Okay, your point is taken. I'll open a new thread once the SR Purple fuse is released and others can share their thoughts as they receive them, and try them out in their own systems.

Sorry if my enthusiasm for a new product was found to be offensive.

Frank
There are other products on the QSA site that are supposed to be available now. Here’s 3 of them:

c/ ac wall socket in usa ,uk and euro style with black colour and gold colour.

d/ ac power cord in usa uk and euro style

e/7.5%ag QEL solder,10.5% ag and 14.5%ag solder available in stock

Frank,

You did nothing wrong. I would imagine by your actions alone you have introduced not only PPT and QSA but SR Purple as well to probably thousands of members here on agon. Which I thought that is what we're here for. Which to me is a positive thing you have done. It’s called sharing.

Ignore the negative posters and they will slink back from whence they came and hide behind the moniker they’ve created here to just bully others as they have nothing positive to give, or anything better to do.

The Cable Company will be taking orders for the SR Purp the first of October for anyone who wants to know.
Tyray

i hope you are not referring to me as being a Bully.

Frank was wondering why his threads were shut down. I just gave him my thoughts on why his was shut down while this thread remains open.
leicachamp ...

I have no problems with what was said. You made some valid points.

I appreciate tyray’s positive comments as well.

When the SR Purple fuses are released, I’ll start a new thread. They are way too good not to share information about them with other hobbyists.

In the meantime, enjoy the music.

Frank
@oregonpapa   Frank, looking forward to your thread. I personally do not see any issue with you posting your experience prior to their availability. I encourage you to start your thread whenever you choose to.

There are many threads that provide early impressions and full on reviews prior to those products / components being launched.
Ignore the negative posters and they will slink back from whence they came and hide behind the moniker they’ve created here to just bully others as they have nothing positive to give, or anything better to do.

Amen.
@david_ten @tyray 1+. Yes. That is what we are here for sharing info, experiences both good and bad with music, gear, vendors, websites, reviews and whatever. I feel that Frank was providing our community a valuable service and I want to learn more about how the beta SR Purple stacks up against its competitors.
I found Frank's post about the Prototype and then SR Purple to be quite valuable, as it kept me from purchasing a QSA fuse, that I then might have had to sell at a loss.
millercarbon,

I believe you put the QSA stones on the output transformers of your amp? If so, did you leave them there? I’m considering getting another set of all three, and that’s where I’m thinking of putting them.
Yes, they are lined up L to R across the top of the transformer cover. Not the prettiest things it would be nice to find a better location but the sound the other night was so good, Sinatra-Basie always a good one but after putting some hours on the amp watching Free Guy and late at night OMG so incredibly good!
QSA fuses are a sure improvement. But I question the stones. At least only one pair of red on my power conditioner, preamp power supply, and amp transformers. At least on my system... nothing.
Can't argue with that. I found red to be the least impact, with only a very small improvement in making the sound a little smoother or more liquid and very slightly deeper. Maybe good for someone with a lot of SS or digital or anything wanting a bit less glare or grain.

Blue was more obvious, and Clear most of all. Any one alone could be used to fine tune a system without changing anything too much. All together, which is how I'm using them, I found the combination to be fairly well balanced.
The red were the first stones I tried and the only placed I liked the difference was inside the breaker panel. I agree with Miller that the other two types made a bigger difference in my system.
But if you’re not getting anything from the red then maybe best to send back.
docknow,

I know you can trade in/up the QSA fuses to purchase other QSA fuses, but was wondering can you trade up/in to the QSA stones? We maybe able to trade in/up to the QSA stones?

So you wouldn’t be losing any monies on the QSA fuses and still be able to get the SR Purp and have the benefit of another affordable tweak with the QSA stones? I’ll never know until I ask. Thanks for making me think about this.
Aside from the fuses, can anyone who has tried them comment on the AC outlet or the "stones"? I have a blue fuse in my Decware amp and am planning to order a yellow fuse for my DAC.  I regret not taking just splurging for the yellow for the amp :-(Chris

And this is Mike's response:

'Not really. I would say the fuse upgrade has more bang for the buck anyhow.'

That's not a yes, or a no.
Very happy with GEMSTONES from TweekGeek.
Coincidentally I have five Shumann Resonators,
so each unit now has one stone of each flavor.

It is as if the sound is tranformed, meaning everything
positive gets a boost: lower noise floor, greater transient
speed, better placement of instruments in space, etc.
I hear no negatives.

I left the strips of five in place initially, and placed them
in my "open" circuit breaker box.  Not wonderful results,
but I have a Gate in there and other things that may have
been interfering... Also struck out inside the rear of an open-cage amplifier.  Near the power switch of a Synergistic Research
Powercell 12 was slightly better.

The GEMSTONES are very very small, best handled with tweezers.
I bought a roll of double-sided foam tape and cut sqaures that
were just slightly  larger than the stones.  This helped with seeing them
and getting the stones to stick easily, without disturbing their backing.

It really was fortunate that I thought of the SGs.  It might be an
advantage to treat one kind of application rather than placing
then in different areas at the same time, which is something I have
not done.  I am happy with my first complete set and likely
will not explore further.

BTW, I found that all three versions, mounted together, were much more
satisfying than just using the clear stones by themselves.

These GEMSTONES, as a complete set, are pretty impressive,
in my opinion.  They truly impact the music.
I already used this idea with my own S.G. at no cost few years ago ...

I use agate, tourmaline Herkimer diamond and my "golden plates"...

😁😊
@willgolf. You’re correct about left to right direction, which seems to be an industry standard, or at least the way the lateral under-plug holders are typically wired (I’ve asked and the answer is always the same). If a fuse is in the wrong direction, the sound will be closed in. The difference is readily apparent, even with a new fuse. Always worth checking if in doubt, as I received an SR Orange with the label on backwards. Even nondirectional fuses will often develop a better sounding direction with use.

@Ozzy On first application on a USB cable, the NPS-1260 does seem like the real deal. Hadn’t thought about putting it on a fuse, but it does make sense, if it can be made to hold.
Have got the direction of fuses all worked out from pics on QSA site for standard fuse holders under or above IEC plug.

But what about screw in fuse holders? Do the arrow of the fuse point inward or outward of the equipment?

cheers
Here is the link to pictures of the direction of fuse insertion

https://quantum-science-audio.com/

Its the top picture. Look at the top right hand of the picture. It clearly shows you how to insert your fuse for right direction

Sometime today, the old prototype fuse thread was removed. So, I started a new thread that was specifically targeted to those members who are trying the new SR Purple fuses. That new thread lasted about 30 minutes before it was also deleted. What gives? Are fuse discussions verboten now? Would someone please explain?
Something does not seem right here. I suggest you contact the moderators directly for an explanation. Please keep us posted.

I have all yellow QSA fuses.  I would love to hear from anyone who has purchased a QSA red.  Is it worth it?  What improvements did you hear?  Were you able to distinguish a difference in placing it in only one component?  Which component?  If I upgrade I am thinking the Lampi Pacific.

Would love to hear from MillerCarbon in relation to the Yellows.

Thanks. Starting with factory fuses a few years ago I went first to Synergistic Blue and then Orange. These were in my Melody integrated, now Raven Blackhawk. Also used in the Herron phono stage. Haven't tried fuses in any of my subwoofer amps or CDP.

QSA Light Blue was more clean and clear than Orange. Was quite surprised how much better. This is what I would call the signature characteristic of QSA, this clarity of detail. Individual instrumental threads stand out with lots of air around them.

Even more so with Violet. This QSA Violet is so good that after hearing what Frank had to say about SR Purple vs QSA Yellow I can't see any point in comparing. Violet will trounce. As it should, seeing what it cost and all. I would sure hope so.

The contest is between SR Purple and QSA Yellow, as they are real close in price. Unfortunately I haven't had time to do a direct comparison like Frank has. My Yellow only went in a couple days ago. Last night we were without power. WA, like CA, is run by boobs who don't want anyone to have power and so guess what? A lot of us don't! You will have nothing, and be happy. Right.

Where was I? Oh yeah, Yellow. Mine went in the Herron. That thing has so many tweaks and mods I can hardly get at the fuse holder any more. So many tweaks, even my tweaks have tweaks! This is when I remember oh yeah, I painted the SR Orange with Krissy magic, and coated the ends with TC. Krissy magic is $60k/gal Rustoleum, dang I forgot about that, not exactly a fair fight. Oh well.

You know its good in my system when it sounds good right off the bat, don't even need to warm up to hear it. Yellow was like that. First track sounded better than the last track the night before, when everything was nice and warm. I listened to Yellow a couple hours and it just kept getting better and better. Of course I was paying special attention to the midrange since that was Franks problem area but never did hear anything even slightly concerning there.

First thing that hit me, aside from that trademark clarity, is a huge improvement in the bass. Lots of bass notes I had thought had real good articulation now had a simply astounding amount of tone, not just pitch definition but real character, more like I would associate with guitar or violin than bass. Really, really nice bass! Top end extension is excellent, and I just can't find anything to complain about in between.

Was planning on running Purple head to head but just don't know that I will bother now. My sense of it from what Frank said (and experience with other SR) is their Purple will be just a tad smoother/warmer and the Yellow just a tad more pristine.

I just don't see how you can go wrong with any of these. Everything from SR Blue all the way up to QSA Violet, they are all so good it is really hard to believe all this is coming from 1" of fuse. But it is.

One last thing, if you buy Purple it is their top fuse. You can return no questions but there is nowhere higher until they come out with their next one. QSA has the same no-questions guarantee, but Mike also gives you 90 days to trade up with full credit. Which you might well want to do. I did.
Can anyone give me an idea of how much, and what kind of, improvement you get going from a blue fuse to a yellow one? I'm contemplating another QSA purchase, and trying to decide between a yellow fuse upgrade from blue in one of my components (probably the amp), and another set of 6 stones.

I got 3 Light Blue fuses:

1 for my Amp

1 for my Paul Hynes SR7T

1 for my Paul Hynes SR5T

The sound changed from Very Good to AMAZING, HUGE, real and addictive, Yes I know a lot of folks dont believe in fuses or even wall receptacles, they do make a difference but in the case of these fuses are MAYOR / BRUTAL.

I wonder if upgrading the Yellow line worth the price jump over the Blue Light ?

Miguel

Some of you folks may have fused speakers like my ARs. Have any of you used QSA fuses for your speakers? Curious about your results.

Also, have any of you QSA fuse users had a fuse blow?

Thanks!

Anyone else besides myself and millercarbon tried the QSA stones? What about the outlets, has anyone tried those?
