The best I can describe the difference is the Quantum Red provides more detail and image depth. The SR purple is more rounded, pleasant sounding. I have the red on my digital and the purple on my amps.

But I would like to try additional reds on my mono blocks but probably won't due to costs restraints.

I hear ya. Please don’t ever tell your wife or EE friends what it costs!

I still wonder why not just by-passing the fuse would not be better. Sound Quality wise.

orgeonpappa,
I respect your opinion but I think the 1260 enhancer is even better than the PPT paste. I had a dulling in the highs with the PPT stuff, but the 1260 did not.

And, (gulp) I will say that the 1260 is actually better than the yellow fuse alone.
Adding both brought out even more resolution, liveliness, realness, etc.

yoby,
My power cords:
I am using the Synergistic Galileo SX on my source, an Audioquest Dragon High Current on my Niagara 7000 conditioner and the Nova power cords on my amps.

I am thinking of getting a red QSA fuse to replace a yellow one on my Lumin X1. There is a large cost difference. But, I may be willing if it adds to sound quality.

Can anyone provide their experience on the differences?

Perhaps someday a clever inventor will develop a direct drop-in fuse protector with a built in breaker switch instead of a fuse. Using only audiophile approved wiring and metals (of course). It would only require 2 wires with an attached suitably sized breaker.
Heck, I may even pursue the idea...

First off I’m an audiophile, been this way going on 50+ years now and if something improves sound quality then I am in.

But, I do have to wonder what could possibly make the QSA fuses improve the sound quality. As George would say it is only 2 end caps and an internal wire. Is the wire inside special?

Synergistic Research claims their fuses are hit with a million volts of energy.

So what is special about the QSA fuses? I asked Mike at Tweak Geeks and he had no idea.

coralkong,
I am using Furutech NCF outlets. These outlets were made specifically for audiophile use.

I just received my red QSA fuse today. I also applied the 1260 to the end caps.
First listen, definitely a sharper image than the yellow.

ozzy
Well after a couple of days the QSA red fuse is really starting to impress. The sharpness that I once noticed on the first day has relaxed and the images are natural and pleasant.

BTW, I tried the fuse in both directions and you can really tell the correct direction. Actually more so than any fuse I have ever tried.

t_ramey,
I am using the red on a Lumin X1.

leicachamp,
If you can, also apply the NPS 1260 on the end caps for even more improvement.

leicachamp,
The Stabilant 22 is very good at keeping corrosion at bay. I started using it before the NPS 1260. I now use the Stabilant 22 on outdoor tractor equipment.
The NPS 1260 is a very different liquid, it will lower the noise floor.

oregonpapa,
I have had many posts and a few threads deleted also by the Audiogon censors. For a while in protest, I went back and was deleting my past posts.
