No sneering Please

Please no flaming.

Audio snobbery aside, has anyone ever done an objective  comparative test of the latest chifi TPA3255 chip powered amps vs the 'high-priced spread'?

I am prepared to be shocked.

No sneering, please.

I've not tried one of those amp circuits, but the price is intriguing.

The weakest link theory is usually in play when doing any comparison. To get most insights from any comparison, it’s important that the system synergy and clarity be at the level of the higher performing component. Otherwise masking effects of a lesser system can hide what the better component can do...it can very easily (and unfairly) leave the false impression that the better component performed no better than a lesser component when plugged into a lesser system. That’s my 2 cents for the day anyway.

I have built 4 over time. To be fair. I typically do a fair amount of work on them. My latest is quite good.

I am a happy owner of an LSA Warp 1 amp.  Stunning Class D performance at a great price.  Does everything well on my system.  Prefer it to an LTA Z40 amp that I didn’t care for and have since sold.  I don’t own and have not compared it to any of the grown ups.

Without question I love the sound of the 3255 amp chip. To my ears it just sounds right. I have several Aiyima A07s  one of the first small inexpensive amps with this chip. I Immediately enjoyed the sound and continue to do so. I have replaced two higher priced amps with these little guys (albeit in smaller secondary system).

I just order the new Fosi ZA3 which seems to take this cheap solution to the next level.

Are these amps something to ogle over build quality and audiophile jewelry? Heck no! Will they last ? Maybe not as long as others. But then again just buy another. So try one out you might be pleasantly surprised as I was (as I am still).

I had a bit of an awakening recently. My office setup consists of Klipsch RP600M out in the room and Martin Logan 15i on the desktop. I have a Nakamichi TA-2A receiver (the Nelson Pass STASIS model) powering both. On a whim, I replaced the Nak with the Fosi V3 (with 4562 opamps) and was immediately taken aback by the lack of transparency, high frequency extension, and bass control exhibited by the Fosi. It also sounded like the music was much further away with less immediacy. I also tried the Aiyima A07 and it was better, but still nowhere near as good as the Nak.  Prior to this I was listening to the A07, A08 and the Fosi V3 in both my office setup and main system and thinking they were great sounding amps, so I was very surprised by what I heard.

Ho Ho Ho - you guys till believe in Santa Claus, I mean reviews!
Maybe check to see if the reviewer owns the product they are recommending.

I have a Fosi V3 I got after returning an Aiyima 07 both used in my workshop system with restored IMF Super Compact 3-ways.

Source is WiiM Pro analog out.  I also have  a Van Alstine Super PAS 3 and new build Dyna ST35 for comparison. I find the Fosi to be crisp, transparent, and enjoyable. I do slightly prefer the tube gear, but when I need space on my bench, it goes in the rack and I am happy with the tiny stack. I also use a Bellari PA550 as preamp in that setup, for phono.

Very interesting review.  Not sure why @bigkidz discounts the use of reviews that come from credible sources.  I for one don't have the opportunity to run out and buy, or demo everything that comes along so the reviewer plays an important role in the chain of information.  The most disturbing thing I find in this review is the concept that a $1500 amp could possibly replace my $15,000 amps (times 2 for mono blocks).  I suspect there are many like me who don't want to believe the day is coming when our very expensive amps will be boat anchors.  My son-in-law is of the generation that can't believe the money I have tied up in traditional SS amp.  He's Class D all the way.  I'll keep my head in the sand as long as possible.  😆

I believe only many reviews not one or two, but many , reading between line ...

Agreed @mahgister  I discount one-off reviews but when you have several excellent reviews and actual owners on forums giving thumb up on a of component then I take notice.  I bought my Warp 1 amp because I needed an amp while waiting for my Decware tube amp to be built (2 year wait).  I prefer the sound of tube amps but thought I would try a highly recommended ( by reviews, forums, maker) Class D amp. Didn’t hurt I got a nice discount on it so really a  no risk purchase.  I have it hooked up to a Supratek tube preamp with 91db speakers and it amazes.  It will be nice to compare and rotate it with my Decware amp arrival. I don’t play in the $10,000+ market but do enjoy this TPA 3255 chip amp.

The only kind of review that I trust says something like, "... made the singers on my records sound more like people I have heard live."

Not many say that.

They cannot all describe my optimized AKG K340 if they did not own it ...😊

Happy Christmas to you and your family ...

@bigtiwn - how many reviewers do you personally know?  How many systems of theirs have you heard on a regular basis?  Are you an industry person?  Manufacturer?  Unless you have heard their systems and can hear what you hear, then IMO, the review can be somewhat of a guide but I personally take a review for what it is worth as I stated before.  Unless you have heard Mike Fremer's system, you will never understand what he is hearing.  You can understand my advice if you want or do whatever you think is for you.

All the best to you and your family and Happy Holidays.

@bigkidz  I don't know any reviewers.  I'm not in the industry.  I'm just a retired guy who loves music.  I didn't mean any offence when I questioned your statement.  I just don't get all the negative comments about reviews.  Call me naive, but I like to think publications such as Absolute Sound would not intentionally print misleading reviews and would be publishing reviews by people with a lot more knowledge of equipment than I have.  I wouldn't run out and buy something based on one article, but I also wouldn't discount the reviewers opinion just because it's the first I've read.  When I read the list of equipment the reviewer is using for his baseline comparisons, it's usually top shelf gear?  Are reviewers a bit jaded?  Possibly.  But if I want a review that trashes equipment and tells me what a waste of money it is, I can always jump over to ASR to cleanse my palate.  🤣  Merry Christmas.

@terry9 and even better if compared to heard voices a cappella…..

I haven’t looked at the failure modes of the amp the OP is promoting, great speakers don’t like DC…..

@crustycoot IMF….man that guy had ears…. i worked at a store that carried them in 1978…. simply wonderful…..

By the way, aside from linking that Absolute Sound review on the Technics SU-G700M2, I own it, love it, and will not part with it unless I come into a ton 'o money, in which case, I'd probably buy the SU-R1000.

All the best & Happy Holidays, 🍷🎼 ⛷️🚑 🏥

I have a couple Fosi amps including v3. Color me impressed.    One drives a pair of KEF ls50s very nicely.   Audio Science Review site has done reviews of many affordable amps like these and is a good resource for more info.

I am impressed too...I own two very low cost pre-amp S.S.  Fosi sk01 and  tube Douk P2 , neither is junk ...Not hi-fi for sure ,  but not junk ...😊

For me there is 2 simultaneous revolution in audio , low cost producy at relatively high quality which never existed before in so large numbers ... And the BACCH filters ...

Where are you finding 120v? Everything I find on Amazon is 48 v or 240 v, etc.

Anyone else running their Aiyima A07 with more than 36V 5A?

For me, seems to be the sweet spot for all my vintage Polks and B&O sattelites.
