SR Tuning Discs, Psychoacoustic Bias and Listening Fatigue I think many of the "night-and-day differences" are attributable to head position, mood, expectation bias, gullibility, nasal conditions, and a host of other issues not related to audio quality. Companies like Synergistic Research, Furutech, Pang...
Affordable Grounding Write Synergistic Research on it in crayon, charge $600 for it and whole-heartedly recommend at least 3 for best results, and the cable sniffers will follow you to the ends of the earth.
Useless Things I believe Viagra and Silly Putty are two famous examples of that.
Technics SL 1200 GR Other than the cartridge, no upgrade on a turntable is going to bring about a night-and-day improvement. So don't believe that the Technics or P3 isn't future-proof. The Technics does have a removable headshell which to me is vitally important a...
Do your ears deceive you? @steakster Remarkable...You think that small companies are manipulating quantum mechanics and electrodynamics in their little shops in the backyard, and scammers like Ted Denney, a high school dropout with no technical training is "Quantum Tunne...
Do your ears deceive you? @steakster I can't believe you are calling out some of the biggest shysters in the industry as credible. I'm surprised you didn't include Ted Denney. As for the rest, I do NOT, under ANY circumstances, believe that any of these companies do anyt...
Don't do anything! I don't think it's the power or speaker cables "breaking in" - that's just audiophile foolishness. Your cartridge, however, may have more to do with it. More than likely you are acclimating to the new cartridge and it's your brain "breaking in".
Free Tip for Jumpers You guys do realize that despite all your manipulations all these connections are going to exactly the same point electrically. The claims for "astounding" improvements are just simply hogwash, and represent the wants of the user, not the realiti...
Ethernet cables Except for audioman58's spew of absolute nonsense, I am so glad that no one on this thread has suggested $500+ snake oil Ethernet cables. It gives me hope for this group!
GentooPlayer - A saga of misery Thanks, I will look into AudioLinux. There was quite a sound quality leap (very unexpected!) when I went from Daphile to Volumio, so I'm always out looking for that next leap.
GentooPlayer - A saga of misery I have been grappling with GentooPlayer, trying understand it and just get it to work. I have used Windows, Daphile and Volumio on my mini-PC very successfully over the last few years, but GentooPlayer has proven to be extremely unfriendly. I pu...
New expensive power cord for amp and no change in sound? <knock, knock> "Who's there?" "Reality" "Reality who?" "The reality that bit you in the butt when you got suckered into an expensive power cord"
A stupid question(s) about power cords Just use a three cord plug. It will be fine. As to whether it will shield RF, that is not the point of the third conductor, which is to ground the chassis of the electronic equipment. Oh, and burn it in, freeze it, bury it in dirt for 30 days...
Looking for the next level in imaging... @bigtwin Wow! Someone else knows about Opus 3, Test Record 1 - Depth of Image! It has been my standard since first hearing it while demoing Mission 770's back in 1981. The two standout cuts for me for depth are "Tiden Bara Gor" and "Polka from ...
MC-MM-MI CARTRIDGES . DO YOU KNOW WHICH HAS BETTER QUALITY PERFORMANCE? REALLY? @rauliruegas I couldn't relate to what JPM was saying until I started switching between my moving magnet (Shure, A/T), Moving iron (Grado, Stanton) and LOMC (Dynavector Ruby). Then it became more and more apparent. The MC was just more transpare... |
