Many of you own or have read of the highly-regarded PPT Omega E Mat, one of Tim Mrock’s revolutionary signal-enhancing accessories. Just prior to his untimely passing, Tim had finished developing a new generation of his Omega mat, soon to be available. Krissy Mrock has asked a few of us to introduce this new mat, here given the working title of The Double Omega.
In distinguishing the Double Omega, we know the original Omega, herein called the single, as a 7.5” by 10”, rather heavy and somewhat pliable mat, a bit more than 1/8” thick and with a vinyl-like feel. One face is glossy white, displaying the PPT logo and Omega name, while the other is black, smooth and magnetized. Sandwiched between these faces is the active material that causes components to reject the EMI that saturates everything in our surroundings. The Double Omega is much the same, with one important difference: the magnetized face has the finely-textured feel of around, say, 220-grit sandpaper. This texture, it is presumed, comprises yet a second active layer of EMI rejection. Presumed—because working details of the Double Omega are not well understood—better yet to know how to apply it.
With the understanding that the single Omega E mats generate field effects from both faces, mats have typically been placed under and over components and vertically over circuit breakers. How you apply the Double Omega will depend on best use and experimentation. In my case, I have removed two single mats, lying side-by-side, from the top of my large Wadia CDP and have replaced those with two Double Omegas. The Wadia is a one-box player that contains a pre-amp, so I wanted that second, strong field effect exerting downward as well as upward. I also have several singles placed underneath, just as before. Going straight to amps, this player is my only source, so I want it fully protected from EMI. Your priorities will differ.
As of this writing, I am only thirty-hours in on placing these Double Omegas, and I can already tell you they are powerful in their prevention of EMI within my digital source. Yet another veil has been lifted—all instruments and voices are even more sorted out in the aural space with new information heard within that space. There is much more decay heard against a new silence behind and between the musicians. I am already so pleased and excited about what the Double Omega E mats are doing. As Krissy told me, Tim was really stoked to have these new mats available. Rather than wait for the the fourteen-day window of improvement, I want to get this intro out so others can relay their experiences sooner.
@jafreeman No, I am not planning on installing PPS products on my speaker wires; however, if I were, it would take a lot of them to cover the distance.
My wife of 22 years has criticized my first system because it made her rock music sound less grungy(?) or too bright for many years and she preferred my $5,000 simple CD based system in the living room instead. She is my harshest critic. No more. That was prior to my newest Pharoah cabling, PPS products and SR products in a new, custom built listening room. The new room had the greatest effect as the prior room, while twice the size, had windows to the sides and rear, double drywall layers and a vaulted drywall ceiling. Now she enjoys most of her rock LPs and CDs in my big system with the exception for the poorly recorded/engineered ones (compressed sounding ones are the worst).

It is a bit strange to hear all the old rock music on a good system---it's so cleaned up now---has a different character than on a system that imparted that mid-range 'fuzz and buzz' we used to think was the music.

The e-Cards are a bit thinner (and the size of a credit card) as the regular e-Mats as they have a magnetic side. I understand they will be coming out with an e-Card+ (no idea when or what it will be like) and a plug in device (their version I guess of the Akiko Audio Triple AC Enhancer). The eMat+ is a bit thicker. Think of an e-Card as 10% of an e-Mat (give or take and as 5% of an eMat+).
So my next question. My electrical panel door is only 6 inches wide. Can the mats be trimmed from 7.5 to 6.0 inches? Also can the left over strip be used elsewhere in my system?
Cutting the mats has been discouraged in past discussions. What I did: I left the panel door wide open and stuck the mats right over the breaker switches. They stick nicely to the panel body that surrounds the door and form a nice seal over the breakers---took two mats to cover the area. Just peel them back to reset a breaker.
I have now cut and pasted many mats. Some cut to size to fit inside the panel doors and the left over pieces to be placed in deeper recesses inside the panel.
I have cut sections of mats to shape and attach to support sections of my CD transport drawer assembly. Other sections were attached to the 3 transformers areas, to the clock circuit and atop large capacitors or banks. I was the able to place inside the transport over top the entire drawer mechanism nearly a full mat. The left over portion of this mat went inside each of my amps onto the solid copper heat sink where the 2 power mosfets are attached. I made sure there were no random threads or particles that may come in contact with circuitry.
Putting these materials in close contact with the intended circuits or mechanical devices makes for and huge and immediate impact on every acoustic and physical aspect of listening to music and video.Tom .
I just stuck the E-Mats over the cover of the audio power panel and placed them inside the main panel, using the magnetic side to stick to the panel doors (outside and inside, respectively). They work great despite not being in intimate contact with the breakers. They are much closer than the E-Mats placed on the back of my speakers behind the crossover/woofer and behind my top mid-range driver. Works great there too! I wouldn't worry that an E-Mat doesn't fit so I wouldn't cut it down to size.
This is my
first post on Audiogon. I’ve read most of the posts on the various PPT threads
(TC, E Mat and The Gate) and it got me quite interested in these products. Audio
has been my main hobby since my teen years (a long time ago), with a pause when
the kids were young. A few years ago I upgraded my whole audio system with what
I believe to be quality components. In a few words my system is made of the
following. Audio PC: Phasure PC Stealth III, DAC: Phasure NOS1a, AMP: AVM
SA8.2, Speakers: LEEDH E2, Sub: LEEDH 20.1. The whole system is fed by 3 direct
dedicated 20 amp. lines from the main panel. The server, DAC and Amp. are each
connected to a dedicated Topaz isolation transformer wired in balanced mode.
The system
sounds good most of the time and very good late at night. Usually the SQ is at
its best after midnight. Once in a while it sounds very very good, and that is
the issue. Once you heard the best your system can do, the bar gets raised and
it’s hard (and frustrating) to settle for less. I’m sure many of you have experienced
the same thing. My main objective now is to get rid of the variability in the
SQ (or at least lessen it), whatever the time of the day I’m listening to
music.
However I
wonder if the PPT products could provide the same benefits (or even better?)
without resorting to add a generator to the chain. The question is addressed to
the users of the PPT products: with the TC, and E-Mat+ but without the Gate, do
you experience variability in the SQ relative to the time of the day you’re
listening to music? I mentioned without the Gate because I find the price tag a
bit steep. However if what I’m looking for means that The Gate is mandatory, I
would consider it as a second step.

IMO, I wouldn't think it wise to chose one over another. The unit you're referring to is not well know yet and the PPT stuff isn't really meant to be a replacement, but more of an enhancement to your current components. Did I say that right?

@michael_be There is far greater variability in "where" we (biologically unique beings) are moment to moment / hour to hour / day to day THAN a mature and settled system (due to electrical / noise / grid variables / etc., etc.).

@Slaw... I think I will pull the trigger for a few PPT products (TC, E Mat+, E Cards). Additionally I found a place nearby where I can rent a Goal Zero Yeti. I will then be able to compare both products, separately and combined. It will be interesting to test.
@david_ten... Yes I agree, the mood we're in may have an influence on our perception of the SQ. But it has been my experience that almost invariably, my overall satisfaction is greater late at night. This has been corroborated by my wife several times. Your mileage may differ as mains quality is highly variable from place to place.

For me now there is no difference in day or night listening only a difference during warm up time... the same under the sun or the stars. I don't have a Gate but something close.. many mats even closer to the source. The closer the better I have found. Tom
Yes, I use the Gate. I believe that if you are going to get into the PPT products, this is where you should start. Expensive, I know ... but you will get many more times the benefit than what is available in any other way.
I've had many conversations with Agoner's who have immersed themselves in these products as I have, and we all agree ... the results are beyond the descriptions usually used in this hobby. There is nothing else like this stuff on the market that I'm aware of.

I know this has been mentioned multiple times but when it happens to you it is pretty crazy. Had this discussion with my wife this morning:
Wife: Why did you set the refrigerator to 5? Me: What are you talking about? Wife: Why did you change the settings on the refrigerator? Me: I didn’t. Wife: Yes you did! Me: Why are we having this conversation? Is the refrigerator getting too cold? (realization of what may be happening was starting to sink in as nobody has changed the settings!) Wife: Yes. It’s started freezing things. My yogurt was frozen this morning and it’s been freezing other things. I then need to tell her about the mats that she didn’t want me to get as they are too expensive. I’m pretty sure she still thinks I changed the darn refrigerator settings. 🤷🏻♂️ Anyway, this is with just 2 mats +. One on a sub panel to my system and one under a power conditioner. And I have 2 200 amp main panels in my home. Crazy!
But it sure makes my system sound better! What a great product!
I just spoke with Krissy. There will be no new company producing PPT products unless Tim's heirs want to continue producing them under the PPT name. Krissy is no longer a participant in the company and will be concentrating on her antique business. Those of us who have the products should, at this point, consider ourselves lucky, I guess. Hopefully, the heirs will restart the website and begin production shortly. Other than that ... happy listening.
OMG! That is beyond sad. I am livid. This woman was MARRIED to and running the company with Tim, she loses her husband, but that's not enough, they have to take her company too?!?!? Can this even be true? WTF is this country coming to???

Unfortunately, New Hampshire doesn't recognize common-law marriages. That makes Krissy's status in the situation as nothing more than that of a mere "guest." There was no will, so the next of kin becomes the heirs, and what once belonged to Tim, now belongs to them.

Yes, it is true that NH is not a common law marriage state, but my understanding is that there are exceptions to certain things in death (and best to contact a real expert) - e.g.
but I think seeking the help of an intellectual property attorney might be helpful for Krissy. Trade secrets must be protected and it seems Krissy had access to those and perhaps no NDA, etc exists... so IF no parents, there might be an alternative....path

While us crazy audiophiles always seem to have disagreements on audio issues (and I never understand why as no one can tell another what they can or can't hear or then you have some who have theories but no or little experience using something in a particular system/room and coming to the conclusion that it can't sound as good as something else), it is always important to get advice on certain matters from people with real expertise in a particular area. It also doesn't hurt to have a second opinion on something really important.
If there is something that I can help in any way with let me know. Have not been as active (here or elsewhere) over the last week as I had a minor mishap (thought my calf snapped in half when I got out of bed last Wednesday night, was a horrible sound and feeling and was tested to make sure it wasn't a blood clot, which it wasn't) and just getting to the point where I only limp with only a little bit of pain (and hopeful that in a few weeks I'll be back to my old normal falling apart self).
Krissy obviously has been through a lot and whatever support she needs should be the most important thing we can offer. Phil
Do not fret. Krissy is making sure that Tim’s innovations and new ones are being developed as a new company. Give her some time though as she had to relocate (move out) of her home and take her belongings (antique business). That N.H. common law wife statute appears to provide actionable relief have Tim’s parents pay back what they took in cash from her as well as PPT, PPS and any other of their joint business products.
Yes, don't count her out. She is a tough Yankee and a smart cookie. I have a feeling when all this gets straightened out, she'll be back bigger and better than ever...
