BEK Hi-fi in Pennsy. Great guys to work with (Erik/Barry...Son/Father). I recently did a Trade-IN with them towards a Line Magnetic 845 Premium Amp. They drove all the way to my house which is over 1 hour away to pick up the speakers and they ended up staying for at least 2.5 Hours just shooting the breeze about gear etc. They have a tremendous Lineup..especially speakers for the Lux. Harbeth, Proac, Spendor, Tannoy, Triangle, Dynaudio,Quad. About as close to 1 stop shopping as I need. You cant go wrong.

Jetter is correct, at least for residents of most states. In my state it is known as "use tax," which is numerically equal to the state sales tax. And there is a line-item on the state income tax return for it to be declared. If one enters zero on that line while having made out-of-state purchases during the year for which no sales tax was collected at the time of purchase, and for which sales tax would have been collected if the item had been purchased in-state, one is filing a fraudulent return. almarg is completely correct. All of the online purchases I have made in the last few months from out of state sellers have added in the sales tax of 8%, the sales tax in New York where I live. And Jetter..........I have always thought that sales tax should only be paid the first time any piece of gear is sold. Example....In New York if a car is bought from a dealer or a private seller, sales tax will be charged no matter how many times the car is bought and sold. Sad. |
Via discogs, I end up paying tax on shipping from half the way accross the world. If there should even be any tax on that, shouldn’t it be only on the portion of the trip from the border to me and not from wherever to the borde, toor? Not to mention that items sometimes stop at different countries before coming to me. Not what OP asked about, though. I had less than successful experience from the dealer close to the distributor’s address. They never even returned my call, after I asked when can I come to pick the thing up. I gave up on waiting and bought it from a dealer hundreds of miles away. I do not remember the name of that unsuccessful transaction dealer, but would stay away not to waste time. |
Eag618 John is at the store Tuesday through Saturday. He’s receiving phone calls at the store. He recently stated on Facebook that his business during the last four weeks has been down 16%. He’s doing a lot of business over the phone. He mentioned that his top two sellers during the close down were TT’s and phono stages. I’ve been doing business w/John for over 25 years. He's the best. |
@luxmancl38 He mentioned that his top two sellers during the close down were TT’s and phono stages. Interesting, and I suspect this says something about the demographics of those most into vinyl (teens of the 80s and 90s). They should in general be more financially stable than younger folks. I found this snippet from a recent 2019 article: Teens of the 1980s (now aged approximately 45 to 54) and the ‘90s (now aged approximately 35 to 44) were the two largest age demographics buying vinyl in 2018, accounting for 24 and 21 per cent respectively of new vinyl sales in the U.S., according to 2018 data from the RIAA. |
While accompanying my wife on a business trip, l discovered Command Performance A/V in Falls Church, VA. It is a beautiful store with a nice selection of high-end Audio gear. They are very nice people as well. Since visiting I cannot stop thinking about the Luxman integrateds and turntables that I saw and heard there. |
I bought my Luxman L-590AxII from Suncoastaudio.com. Mike is great to work with and sure will give you a better deal. No tax when I purchased mine. Music Direct is great too, but they definitely collect sales tax. I purchased a new phonostage during the pandemic, so I guess I’m in that demographic that grew up in the 90s. LOL though, interestingly, I didn’t have but a few vinyl records, which I played on my father’s TT. It was mostly cassettes and CDs. |
