Has anyone tried these stunning new CPT power cord?
My experience with these power cords is truly magical. The scary part of the above is I only have one 150 on my sub and one 300 from my wall to my 6 outlet bar. I still need 3 more to complete my system. I could just imagine the level after that...In closing, I cannot emphasize enough to try one of these in your system. I CANNOT and WIIL NOT take these out as they are that good. But hold your jaw, cuz what you've been listening to will just become real after Core Power Technologies.
Cheers....and let the tapping begin.......
Viborg. Hmmm. https://www.aliexpress.com/w/wholesale-viborg-audio.html |
I purchased a Hi-End HiFi Audio AC Power Cable Power Cord US Plug - 3.28FT (1M)Sold by: viborg on Amazon for $24.50. The model number on the static bag it came in was: VP2180. Specs listed were: Conductor: OFC Connector: Pure Copper US Out Size Diameter: 16mm Conductor size: 3*4MM2 Length: 1M Made in China There are several models available. I own a couple of these and a couple of the WAudio power cables. I’m pleased with their performance. |
I received the chinese balanced power transformer, thanks again for your comparison Ozzy (check's in the mail). I used the power cord from my arcam preamp to hook it up to the wall (it came without a cord). I've plugged in a Mark Levinson 331 (100W/ch @ 8ohm) i intend to sell at some point for a friend, my 55" samsung SUHD tv (~57W), and the RME ADI-2 Pro (~20W?, DAC/digital preamp for computer audio and tv). First thing: the Levinson is noisy. I've been using it for about 6 months, enjoying the power of it but hesitant about what to do in a resale situation. I was not sure if it was due to repairs needed or power issues at the house... Plugged into the C-BPT, listening to youtube music through the tv->RME-ADI-2 Pro->Levinson. The Levinson is now QUIET... TV display appears to show a 'blacker background'. this might only have a few hours of break-in from Ozzy and may benefit from continued break-in, its already great purchase, and confirms how much noise I have coming in probably due to bad wiring in the house/cell towers/smart meters on the house/wifi RF... its a worthwhile purchase. I'll plug the class A 5W guitar amp soon to see if it gets rid of the radio stations being picked up and/or cuts down on background noise. I have a Furutech power strip that I will eventually plug into the C-BPT, then run Levinson/TV/RME-ADI-2 Pro to see if theres an improvement. Eventually I'd like to DIY upgrade the unit based on everyones recommendations, when I get time (next summer). Thanks again for recommending this unit, for less than $200, its an easy purchase in my book. |
I've scrolled thru this entire thread. Recently, my wife and I finally finished watching Breaking Bad. We're both disappointed that it's over. She's actually complaining about it. I may have her start reading this thread. Maybe, maybe not... she may start to suspect me of being crazy. Holy Schiit Batman! |
@alexberger I compared my Acoustic BBQ power cord made with the new Duelund 600v wire with several Furutech power cords. One made with their former top of the line 10 gauge bulk cable and F28 connectors. In addition, I compared to Furutech and Neotech power cords usually selling from $400-$1000 from dealers. My customers tell me they compare nicely to cables they have costing up to $1200. Cables from Luna and several others. I like the natural tone and openness of the power cord. You hear the same sort of natural tone and realism found in the Duelund cotton covered wire used in speaker cables and ICs. I know some don’t believe in burn in and I don’t want to argue that, but these do take some time to settle in and open up. Based on my listening they need at least 200 hours. It really depends on what it is plugged into (CD player vs conditioner etc..). I have used several types of connectors for my customers since I do a lot of custom work. The one I like the best I used to source from China. It is a knock off of the top of the line Furutech with carbon fiber/stainless steal barrel bodies and Rhodium plated copper blade conductors. You can now buy this from Parts Connextion for $50 under the Connex brand. For the money they do sound rather good. I make a standard cord with one run of the 12 gauge wire per pole and well as a cord with a double run per pole making for a 9 gauge cord. I do use a special twist/weave on both. I make both shielded and unshielded. Both sound great. I find the unshielded is perhaps a tad more open and lively. The wire’s polycast coating is very, very thick. It is hard to strip as the material sticks to the wire. It requires additional work and attention to detail so one does not nick or cut off some of the wire strands. One trick is to heat up the wire tips with a heat gun right before stripping as this seams to release the polycast a bit. Don’t overheat or melt. |
Hi @grannyring , Most of my power cables are bulk Acrolink 4030 with Furutech Cu and Neotech Silver plugs. I lake more unshielded Acrolink 6N 4030 compared to shielded Acrolink 7N 4030 mk2. Unshielded model mk1 has much more superior tone, more air and dynamic. Mk2 sound more clean with better separation. I will try to do myself Duelund cable. So I can compare them to Acrolink. It a silly question: Why do you prefer wave twisted cables to simple twisted cables for AC? Regards, Alex. |

@t_ramey: Don’t repeat my mistake and order the more expensive 12 gauge wire in the oil cotton wrap as an AC hook-up wire. You want the cheaper 600V-12 gauge wire in the polycast wrap if you intend to use the wire in an AC hook-up configuration. (Even the Parts Connexion description points this out. See https://www.partsconnexion.com/product47657.html) The more expensive oil cotton wrap wire would be a fire hazard in an AC hook-up implementation. That was the advice I got from Bill (grannyring). Dan |
See here for a definition of hook-up wire. On Parts Connexion, if you look at their offerings in speaker cable and hook-up cable, there's a lot of overlap. |
@twoleftears. That is part of the confusion. I flagged in my mind the polycast product but then later ordered the oil impregnated cotton product. It was only when Bill sent me a couple pics of his duplex outlet wiring scheme did I realize I might have mistakenly ordered the wrong wire. His pics showed a shiny black plastic wrap as the hook-up wire on the AC outlets. My wire, which was still in the bag from Parts Connexion, was a brown cloth wrap. Bill did tell me that the incorrect wire is perfect as a great speaker cable wire. I’ve got so many speaker cables that I’m not sure I need to make another set. 😂 |
grannyring, Going a make a Deulund PC for my CPT and upgrade the internal duplex wiring. Is it necessary to double up the ground if I double up the neutral and live so that I’m not restricting power going into the CPT 1200? Planning on burning in on my cable first before upgrading internal wiring. Has any of you added a DC blocking scheme to your 1200 or 1800 and if so, do you have any pictures on how it was integrated into the unit? Mine does buzz occasionally and this circuit could make a noticeable improvement for sure. Maybe I should opt to have my Deep Core delivered verses a refund? Thanks, Wig |
Wig, Double the ground also. The populated DC blocker needs to go between the IEC/breaker and the transformer input leads. I don’t own this unit so without it right in front of me I cannot give specific instructions. Generally you would do this.... The board has a live, neutral, and ground connection on the input and output of the board. Six total connection points. Three in and three out (L,N, and G). No place for mistakes here as you have high voltage and can hurt yourself and/or unit! I really need to see to see how it is wired and these are general ideas only. Like to see, up close, the IEC and on-off breaker wiring both to each other and to the tranny close up. The input would normally be fed the Live lead from the breaker. The breaker/on-off switch will have two black wire leads on it. Remove the black live wire lead connected to the tranny input and as this lead will soon be connected the Live output on the DC board. You now run a 12 gauge wire from that same breaker tab to the Live input terminal on the board. The IEC ground goes to the G input terminal on the board. That black lead out from the input to the tranny now goes to the L terminal on the output of the DC blocker board. There will be a neutral wire also going into the tranny input side with the black wire you just hooked up to the L output on the DC board. It is most likely twisted with the black and perhaps white in color. That white wire now gets connected to the N on the DC output terminal. That now naked tab on the switch where the white wire was needs a 12 gauge new run to the N on the input of the DC board. Now only output ground is left on the DC board. You really need to know what to look for and plan carefully based on how this unit is wired. Again, my points above are my general guidelines and will help you as you look into the unit live and unplugged 😊 You may want to let a professional do this. |
For those interested I added pics and a description of my mod to the Balanced Power Technologies isolation Balanced transformer. It is very much like the CPT units. Look under the notes on the BPT unit and the pics are all at the end of the picture series.....last 5 pics. It was very, very tight behind the outlets and I think your CPT units have much more room there. Hard to pack all I had into that cramped space. https://systems.audiogon.com/systems/6997 I did the following.... Added a DC blocking circuit Wired with the new Duelund 12ga Polycast 600v wire - home run direct wiring to each outlet Added Porter Ports upgraded outlets Treated all connections with Perfect Path Contact enhancer Added Audience XO caps across each outlet for filtering Added a nice Furutech IEC Installed new 2 pole circuited breaker |
Joined up just to make this post, apocryphal story with a happy ending!Hopefully some comfort for those still waiting... Short version - started reading this thread, about 1/3 way through decided to order a equi=core 300 from here, in blissful ignorance, and from Mark directly as it turned out. While waiting I finished the thread...OMG!! I panicked. True to people's experiences as documented on this thread, subsequent comms from MS were infrequent, ambiguous, and the payment method was convoluted to say the least. I catastrophised and decided I wouldn't see my money again, so contacted Audiogon, and also paypal, who gave me a refund after the requisite actions on my and their parts. Then the unit arrived, about 9 weeks after ordering. It seems well built and has actually exceeded my expectations, certainly as it burns in. So, I got my unit for a good price, it has improved my system, and I hope others are starting to get some action from Mark. I would suggest shaking the tree if you haven't already, using paypal buyer protection and exercising ( even more) patience! He ought to offer to accept payment only after product delivered, but I guess too many peeps might want to give a dose of his own medicine! What goes around, comes around... Still, redemption is available to everyone, right up until the end... |
I know the word you're thinking of...and many have thought Mr S ought to be. So Mr OP, bet you had no idea how the thread would go, a fascinating account of the slow motion trainwreck that has been CPT. But I love my EQ300, no complaints about its effects in my system. I hope they stay available somewhere, somehow. I really enjoyed his Audio Alchemy stuff I owned in the 90s and I see that brand name is still around. You still liking your cords? |
So lesslosslover, see if I understand. CPT received your money...…. Paypal refunded you. You received the product anyway. Who is out the money, CPT or Paypal ? Does Paypal collect the money from CPT, or is this a guarantee that Paypal has. Either CPT or Paypal is out the money, and you, certainly made out like a bandit. I use Paypal often, but never encountered anything like this. Enjoy ! MrD. |
Let me get this straight, lessloss ordered the product, then complained to both PayPal and Audiogon and got a refund. That refund would come from the sellers PayPal account. 9 weeks later the product shows up but you already got your money back, so you got one for nothing. Well, unless you notify the seller and pay for the item, what happened to you amounts to stealing. If you don't pay for the item, then you are also going to need redemption. Myself being very honest would pay for the item. If you aren't going to pay, then you shouldn't have posted. 2 wrongs never make a right. |
Gosh, so many assumptions! Of course I refunded the paypal account - which wasn't Mark's btw, well not overtly anyway - it did not occur to me that I needed to add that I'd paid back, so my bad. I DID wait a few days before refunding though, long enough to burn the unit in, not blow myself up and take a look inside. I felt I had enough moral high ground to do so. I'll say again, Paypal were very helpful.Has anyone else been made good recently?Peace |
I would add that a few weeks in, on paypal's advice, I cancelled my order and asked for a refund and ceased comms with Mark. I'm still not convinced the paypal account I paid was actually someone else. But MrD and S5, there are indeed recidivist thieves and tricksters all over. But their behaviour is as default and natural to them as making good our obligations and trying to be nice is to you and I. They lack conscience and empathy, and feel scorn and smell opportunity around nice people. They genuinely struggle to be any different, to whit if a criminal charge and record doesn't "fill in the blanks" for them, what will? So I try to feel as much compassion for him as I do for the idiot in me that didn't do my proper due dilligence. And for the other victims here. |
@stereo5 yes, I can see how that wasn't clear! You're welcome, and merry xmas to you too. As great an addition as the EQ300 has been ( and sincere apologies for rubbing up those who have lost money chasing their CPT products), it PALES compared to the single most astonishing purchase I have just made in my 40 year hifi life - the Bybee active room neutralizer. I had a nightmare listening room, a relatively small perfect 15' cube, and the Bybee has transformed the listening, JUST like the reviewers say. My prior 'go to' acceessories were the Lessloss cables, which I still love, but I may have to change my username to Bybeelover! I have zero affiliation or agenda, and am trying to stay on topic as the original post raved about a company's product that over time has been soured for a lot of people. I have some appreciation of the physics of Bybee products - or at least that there IS physics at work, but boy for me the change has been amazing. The room has literally alost vanished! Many threads of course devoted to his products but for this listener Bybee effects trump CPT any day. |
Under normal circumstances I never post anything other than
ads on Audiogon. I’m making an exception as most of you will find out soon
enough that I have purchased the Assets of Core Power Technologies, LLC.
This is a good opportunity for Underwood Hifi, Inc and I decided to purchase CPT as I have done very well with these products. I know the owners well, and I believe a few words are in order.
Mark had attempted to sell the company three times and had actual deals twice since April. He did the very best he could do to close these deals. How do I know, I know because in each instance I spoke with the “potential buyers” as I was the largest retailer outside of the factory since its inception.
I also know that due to a mis-fired product introduction and failed public-beta of Deep Core here on Audiogon the company had to close down. Everyone involved felt horrible, as did I. Once I reintroduce the new Deep Core it will be an even better product and unlike the previous owners you won’t hear much about it until they are ready to ship. It will be a full 1800 watt unit at introduction. I have spoken with the Engineers and Product Manufacturer that were/are being used, and Deep Core will be a great product when introduced.
The previous potential buyers worked hard to get these deals done but ultimately, they did not fund and that’s when I stepped in. I will run Core Power with the same integrity and business practices that I have used for Underwood Hifi, Emerald physics and LSA. I will be careful and diligent.
Mark has provided a list of everyone that he owes product or refunds to. I will be in contact with each of you directly via email or if necessary, telephone. I purchased Assets ONLY, but it is Mark and Lynn’s desire, as it is mine, to get everyone their full measure and the products they paid for as soon as I can. The previously failed sales attempts cost Mark and Lynn everything. I know this personally.
I will not be back here to reply to any messages. I am available to anyone that cares to contact me at 770-667-5633 or underwoodwally@aol.com
It is my goal to be shipping 1800’s in late March as everything has been ordered to re-start the company. I would like to ship Deep Core in June or July if not sooner.
Be well, Walter Liederman Underwood Hifi |
