???What's The LEAST Expensive "End Game"Amplifier You've Ever Heard???
Ahh... missed the "Integrated" part. Although I have not heard them, I would immediately look at the Coda CSiB, Wells Audio, Aesthetix Mimas, and Ayre Acoustics EX-8 2.0. Non integrated: Ayre Acoustics MX-R (not Twenty) mono amps ~$6500 used. ...
Open baffle speakers
I have friends with Lii speakers. They think they sound great... meanwhile all I hear is "HONK". The primary factor for them cutting a piece of plywood and mounting a big Chinesium driver was... as usual: PRICE. And I also know this... "The frus...

deep_333 1,285 posts 10-05-2024 at 03:43am Danny knows some stuff and is probably capable of designing a box speaker that can blow someone’s socks off too. But, the latter would end up costing more than what his target market would be w...
Dodd Audio Preamp
Here’s a picture I took of Danny’s setup when I visited in March. You’ll see Danny’s Dodd preamp there. Kinda hard to "demo" GR Research NX-Treme speakers because they are so big.  These are setup in a large room he’s remodeling. I think they may...
Solid State preamp Brands
larryi 3,911 posts 09-29-2024 at 10:23pm I am a tube gear fan. While I don’t think Ayre gear sounds particularly like tube gear, and their stuff is not tonally warm, I like their sound for some reason. I bet I know what you mean... it...
Solid State preamp Brands
I have a bunch of Ayre equipment, and have owned tube gear for a long time including a Joule Electra LAP 150 preamp. For the Ayre stuff, at around $2k used - K-5xeMP. That is not their Variable Gain Tech, but it is REALLY good. Absolutely black h...
Are REL the most Musical Subs?
I wonder... how many people have experienced servo controlled subwoofers?  I do mean "experienced".  I've heard sealed and an open baffle triple stacked pair of 12" servo subs... it's the best bass I've ever heard.  It is not even "just a little b...
Are REL the most Musical Subs?
I owned a pair of SVS SB16-Ultra (recently sold).  I now own 2 pairs of Rythmik F8 8' servo subs.  I am / will use them for 2 channel stereo with my Wilson Audio Duette... and other speakers as well - mostly GR-Research, including Open Baffle MTM...
DAC upgrade from RME
romanesq 90 posts 08-09-2024 at 07:08pm Have the RME coupled with tube mono blocks in a full range system and nothing strident there. Had made some EQ settings in the RME but the biggest improvement as it turned out was adding a tube ty...
DAC upgrade from RME
hsounds 149 posts 08-05-2024 at 06:20pm Hello, I thought the RME had a built in EQ. Can’t you adjust this for your liking? I was thinking the same thing... it has Parametric EQ in the digital domain. This is an interesting thing... I ...
Relaxed/Analog sounding DAC for under $10k (used or new)
@tomwipf  07-23-2024 at 02:51am  I believe Ayre Acoustics QX-5 meets all of your criteria. It's made me a better listener with all the timbre. The clock is 5mm from the dac chip..  I have quite a bit of Ayre gear and am curious, where did you...
Duelund Cast PP
I’m using the Duelund CAST PP, Duelund CAST Resistors, and Goertz inductors in a revised crossover for the Merlin Music VSM speaker. It’s the crossover Danny Richie designed. I am thrilled with how it turned out. The speaker has MUCH more bottom e...

lanx0003 599 posts 02-19-2024 at 10:38am Lower DF implies higher output imp. Does lowering output imp. make it sound better as you said earlier or the other way around? Did you notice you are conflicting with yourself? BTW, lower ou...
