Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive?

Just curious. People have asked about watches,
cigars, beer, and even ones income here.

1: What do you drive (daily & weekends)?
2: What might you be driving in the future?
3: What would you drive if $$$ was no object (pick 2 ;-)?

My answers to the above:
1: Toyota truck.
2: Newer Toyota truck.
3: Lamborghini Murcielago & McLaren F1.
houndco
1. 2000 Honda Accord EX and a
1996 VW Golf w/custom audio system; Rainbow Van 6 1/2 seperates powered by Diamond Audio D7152, ARC Audio 10" Sub powered by MMATS D200, Pioneer P1R CD Player.

2. Audi A4 wagon / VW Passat wagon as we just had a baby.

3. Audi RS6 or BMW M5
1.I drive a highly modified (330HP) 2002 Audi S4 as my daily driver and on weekends. Wifey drives the Expedition.

2. I am eyeing the New Audi S4 with the V8 or a BMW M5. What can I say.. I love German Performance Sedans

3. Hmmm.. Price no object.. Always wanted a Mclearen F1 or maybe the new Porsche GT... Yea, that's the ticket...

This was a cool thread, I love Cars, Music, and Stereo Gear.. Hey, 3 vices is not that bad is it?

Cheers,

Chris
Hi Chris. Careful...early adopters claim the new S4's too heavy to be as much fun, despite the V8. Like me, you've already "chipped" (mine's an MTM) your 2.7T, and seemingly done a CAT-back to get from 300 to 330hp. Let's just hope the "glass-jaw" trannies hold up, eh? Just bought a short-shifter, after instaling a DTS. Have you bothered? Sorry to get so inbred, guys....
1.) Subaru Outback Wagon, 5-speed, 1997. LOVE IT!
Pioneer CD player, Polk speakers and subwoofer.
Stereo sounds pretty damn good actually!
2.) Newer Subaru Outback (2002-present)

3.) Subaru outback V6 VDC with the OEM McIntosh stereo system

AS you can see- i'm a Subaru fan
Hey there.. Yea, my mods on my S4 include a SuperSprint Race System Stainless Exhaust, Stratmosphere Diverter Valves and Custom tuned AutoThority Performance Engineering Software (1 bar of boost) to bring it all together. My car has been pretty bullet proof but it only has 22K on the odometer. I have not tried a short shifter as I have been spending money on Audio Gear and Music. Imagine that.. If you ever want to talk cars, music, or gear, let me know..

Chris
Toyota Sienna for work and (ride) a Moto Guzzi California on the weekends. My next work car will be a Passat GLX or similar car with a stick. The Guzzi I plan on leaving to my son after I'm so old I can't ride anymore.
If money were no object, I'd like a Saleen S7, or perhaps a new 1000 horsepower Bugatti.
Just passed by near a brand new 525 Beemer that from the distance I took for some Mitsubishi or Hundai...
Here's an website for all those who lust after exotic cars. It's a different sort of perspective on driving fast.
Onhwy..,
You've just made me to loose half-day watching these picks!
Truely, enjoyable...
For now Beemer 5 series, next will be the 6 series drop top, and money no object? Austin Martin DB9 of course
BMW 330 CI, 5 speed.

Next: BMW M3, 6 speed. Still looking for the tube amp stereo option;)
I drive a '02 Subaru Impreza WRX - my other financially wasteful passion! I like my cars powerful, responsive, and agile . . . just like my stereo.
A 1971 911 race car for track only. 3.2L, normally aspirated, full cage, carbon fiber body, fuel cell, etc. Runs GT-3S in PCA. I have owned 7 - 911s over the years and this is my favorite.

Daily driver- 2000 BMW 540i sport, 6-speed.

Wife-Excursion with V10 to tow race car and trailer.

Difficult part - convincing her to drive the Excursion under the pretense of caring about her safety and that of the kids. Please, no comments about the Excursion thing, lest she figure out the scam.
oldies but goodies....

1987 BMW 535is, white on red leather, 5-spd, a real creampuff, all original, my daily driver.

1995 BMW R100RT, Classic Edition, the "last of the airheads", my long distance getaway/camping tourer.
Drive a 2000 VW Jetta GLS 2.0, 5-speed (I refuse to drive automatics...character flaw I guess, lol). Comfortable, quick and efficient. Has the "premium" Monsoon system...very harsh, nasty mid and highs. Bass is satisfactory for a factory car system I guess...mediocre overall. Much better than the damned Bose system in my old 93 Maixma...that was awful!

Would like to be driving a Passat Wagon, turbo or TDI as those bad boys get 50 mpg!

Cost no object...I'd still like a Passat, or maybe a BMW 540i sport Wagon with a 5 or 6 speed or an Audi Avant of some variety. There's only so much car a man needs before it's wasteful IMO...and I do like wagons, great, practical utility but still efficient and sporty.
I drive an 2002 Isuzu Axiom XS...in the immediate future I will be riding the same vehicle as I plan on making full use of the 10 year - 120,000 mile power train warranty...

If Money wasn't a concern for me...I dont know, I'm not that big into cars, but I'd probably ride something decent...but not ridiculously expensive. I like the Lexus GS430, and Lexus SC430...or a decent, affordable SUV like an Acura MDX. The rest of the money would be spent on music, cigars, rum and wine.
Sometimes I think I shouuld take redkiwi's advice and use more public transport (except Rochester is sorely lacking), or hop on my bicycle :D

1) My daily driver is a Honda Element EX (5-spd). I also am restoring / upgrading a 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo (approx 480hp) as a fun/weekend/track car.

2) I'm considering trading the Element for a Lancer EVO RS (basically a stripped down street-legal rally car hehe). That, or something I can trailer the porsche with, but if I totally take it off the street I know I'll want something fun for the nice days, perhaps an S2000 or Boxter?

3) If money was no object, I think I'd have a Pagani Zonda and a mint Ferarri F40. If money was LESS of an object, I'd 'settle' for a Porsche 996 GT3 Cup Car (the race version), and a nice tow-vehicle and trailer :P
1. Daily Driver is a Mercedes C240 wagon. 20mpg, adequate accelleration, the best overall engineering in the industry(see next paragraph), and quite comfortable too.

2. Next car? Probably another Mercedes. After surviving a head-on collision at 60MPH with a Ford 3/4 ton pickup truck in my little 190E with no personal injury but my brain(I am an audiophile after all!), I will NOT drive any other marque. Mercedes has earned my loyalty.

3. Cost no object? Probably the E55 Wagon if I can get one federalized or barring that a C320 Wagon. I like the practicallity of wagons. Wagons handle like automobiles while SUV's handle like trucks. In addition, you can transport beefy amplifiers and other big audio gear in the trunk when they need to be moved.
I drive a ford ranger thats almost paid for, when its paid off Ill have that much more to spend on music and upgrades
I, (we of course), drive a Toyota T100 PU. Never has needed out of the ordinary service. Has saved me plenty of money...to buy toys...sound equipment, boat, golf clubs, etc......but not what I would desire to buy....that higher priced gear.....cause I own an AUDI A-6, as well... a great driving machine...that sucks a bunch of my hard earned cash, regularly....guess I can't have it all...
1) My daily commuter is a 04 Acura RSX (fun + economy), weekend, trips w/family, etc., 03 Dodge quad cab 1500 w/5.7L Hemi (a taste of muscle car past), staid family car 98 Camry (SO commuter), and for the kids a 96 Dodge Caravan w/many miles.
2) Maybe an Acura TSX/TL to replace the Camry.
3) To many choices, but a BMW 850 would be a nice starting point.
as for me?

I prefer the glorious harmonies of a balanced well-maintained large-displacement naturally-aspirated engine in a wide + low profile carriage w/ wide tread ... hands down!
Here is the list of what I drive:

'99 Hummer H1, '03 Hummer H2, '00 Mercedes S500 AMG, '89 Porsche 928S4
1.04 dodge srt4 2.91 lotus turbo esprit 3.67 dodge dart 273 Hi-Po 4.95 ford escort wagon...my favorite
here's what i dont drive... yet. its not done!

1965 mustang coupe, 12 point cage, mustang II front suspension, mini tubbed w/ 28X11.5X15 street slicks, 521 Ford w/ aluminum heads, 10.8:1 compression, solid roller cam, single plane intake w/ 1000 cfm holley (should be about 775 HP), c4 trans, 9" rear w/ 3.90 gears, and 4 piston Aerospace disc brakes all around.

looks stock from the outside and should weigh about 3000 lbs ;)
1995 Chrysler Concord
1995 Corvette
2001 Honda Elite Scooter (go figure?)

in the future?
hopefully a company car.

$$ no object?
BMW M5
I love my Volvos! You might be the best driver that day, but chances are the other guy that runs into you probably won't be. Increase your chances of getting home in one piece.
Mike
2003 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, heavily modified for rock crawling and long trail rides. There's some pictures of it in the first few albums on my Webshots page.

I drive a:
2001 Volvo s80
2002 Volvo c70 high turbo coupe

The plan is to get either the new volvo coupe / volvo suv/ or Range rover

The wish is bentely convertible high turbo !!
My daily drivers are:
US: 1989 Porsche 911 coupe and 2003 Honda Odyssey
Fr: 1987 Porsche 911 coupe and 2001 BMW 530D

My weekend drivers are:
1990 Spice-Cosworth 3.8 GTP, 1969 Lola-Chevy T70 408, 1965 Porsche 911 2.0 and 2 2004 Discovery 39S

I will be driving the 1988 Nissan R88C GTP and a Indy Lights car in the future.

If money were no object, I'd be driving an Audi in the ALMS series and at Lemans.
I drive a: 2004.5 Volvo S40 2.4i

The sound within the car is amazing. The premium upgrade audio package is a 12 speaker system with Dolby surround sound!

The subwoofer is also very nice as it is built into the car and does not take up any space whatsoever.
Lakefrontroad, those are some great cars! I trust you can really open them up in Europe.
NOPE!

France has a new policy on anti-social driving... That's defined as what used to be ordinary driving as can be found in Italy today. Unfortunately, above 160 will land you in jail if caught And for those of us who need to drive there, that's bad! I met a German who lived in America for four years and got a speeding ticket at 60mph on a section of the German Autobahn that has limits near a city and lost his German licence for a month.

As to my race cars, the only limits they have are my ability, courage and physics.

Bill E
Lakefront road...kudos to you...I had an 88 911 and wish that I never sold it...oh well...I promised my parents it would hold it's value and it would be used as my part of the down payment on the house...if I dont get a 993..probably wont...don't like power steering...I'll probably look for an 89 anniversary edition...gotta love that G50 tranny too.

Ellery
1400 Suzuki Intruder if the sun's out. '03 Corolla S in between, and an '89 Isuzu Trooper with 244,000 miles if I take the dogs. Money no object? A West Coast Chopper creation.
and a 64 riviera
Daily 73 buick
weekends etc 'vette and zx12r,
others for cars shows
Not a typical Audfiphile but....
1. '02 M Roadster(modded)/C32 AMG(stock)
2. Whatever catches my eye next(the car hobby is as addictive as the audio hobby). A baby Lambo is on the hit list for soemtime in the future.
3.All the cars that I have owned recently at the same time and someplace to store them all: Saab Viggen, M Roadster, M3, M5, C32 AMG, C36 AMG, SLK32 AMG, 355 F1, Lotus Sport 350, S4 and various Audi track cars.
