Call me crazy but I love sometimes just looking at my speakers and set up...

Hello All,

You know I see all these specially designed and built home movie theaters. And they’re magnificent. And of course they all have in wall speakers. I also understand that most people don’t want to see all of the equipment. But I do. Sometimes I will just look and admire my setup (especially my speakers, but my amp too) even when I’m not listening. That’s why for me looks are very important. I feel like up to a certain point within a speaker manufacturers lineup/range everything looks mostly normal but then after about their mid line things start getting weird, LOL! I’m a lifelong Dynaudio lover and even if cost was no object the highest I’d go is Contour....Even if I were to have a true in home movie theater built I would want the speakers visible...Any of you sometimes just like to look and admire your rig?

If you want to see the most attractive part of the Zesto, check out its rear panel....

Thanks Kingbr.....Yes , the Leto is sexy, but not quite as beautiful as the Toolshed 300b I’m having built ....   that will be off the chart.   Check out Toolshed Amps, Matt builds some incredible music machines...

@oddiofyl you made me laugh, I would have never thought it possible for anything other than a woman to look "sexy", but when I first opened the Evokes that's the first comment I made (literally out loud) was "damn they're actually kinda sexy"!🤣

Thank you for the great responses! Also thank you for letting me know it's not just me who does this LOL! @prof 100% same. You know I'll walk in the room to grab something and then find myself sitting and gawking for a few minutes even without the system playing.

You know it's funny but it's sound that matters most (if I didn't love the sound I wouldn't buy), but if I don't like the looks I won't even listen. I guess thankfully (especially considering my funds do have limits) I'm in audio nirvana with my Evokes and Simaudio Titan and don't need anything else :)

Same here.

Aesthetics of any gear I'll be staring at for long periods of time are very important to me.  As it happens two of the speakers I own - Thiel 2.7 and Joseph Audio Perspectives - not only are among my favorite sounding speakers but my favorite looking speakers.  Just classy, high quality design and finishes, and I often admire them just passing by the listening room (which opens to our main front hallway) or even just sitting in the room when music isn't playing.

@mtbiker29 then there is "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"

One I like to use is "That is unique"

One of the chefs once told me “the first taste is with the eyes” and I think that applies here.

My wife is in the restaurant business.  One of the chefs once told me “the first taste is with the eyes” and I think that applies here.

this is a pursuit relating to achieving personal happiness... so whatever floats your boat, so long is no harm is done to others

eye candy and its appeal has been around as long as humankind

Nothing wrong with having an eye for art, regardless of whatever the forum is ;-)

I'm right there with you...

My wife says I look like someone very famous…..That’s right, none other than Mr.John Merrick. People just can’t stop staring at me.

"Any of you sometimes just like to look and admire your rig?" No, I listen to music.

I hear ya !!!!   Sitting here looking at my Zesto Leto preamp....damn it's sexy !!!

@rocray

It’s kind of embarrassing, but that’s the only reason my wife married me.  I’m her eye candy.

ok, we need pics to substantiate please... 😂

@ryder

i have the 590AXII - what a great combination of sound and features. And looks.

I like looking at my speakers mostly the rest of my gear sounds a lot better than it looks luckily it sounds great.

I know just what you mean. I took pictures of mine and sometimes gaze in wonder at the extreme over the top "I don't care how it looks" of it all. Like Ricky Gervais at the Oscars. You gotta admit, it takes real talent to reach this level of aloof. Like a tourist trap in Las Vegas, the sheer size and audacity of the velvet 3D Dogs Playing Poker is so uber kitsch you can't not look. Like we all know to drive and not look at the wreck, we all know this, until we get there and.... look at the wreck.

If it looks great that's the cherry on top but unlike @ryder it first and foremost has to sound good.

Lol, totally. I think aesthetics are so important, and affect our impression of the sound whether we know it or not.

I would buy Magico, Piega, Rockport, or just about a dozen other brands based solely on how they look. Thank God I'm a control freak and have to listen to them first. If I had Vivid Kaya 45s I would talk to them too. And they would talk back to me....

My speakers are ugly. And they are currently sitting on plastic milk crates. But they are sitting on new plastic milk crates. I do have some standards I try to maintain.

Looks so matter to some people. I have to admit that I’m in the same camp as well. The amp and speaker selection for my system must pass the looks department first and foremost, sound quality is secondary. If the gear do not look good to me, I won’t bother listening to it not to mention own it.

I like to look at my amp too but in my case, during listening when the lights of the meters come on. 😁

Totally get it OP! I worked hard to get to my current system, and sometimes I just like to be in the same room with it. I call it Melissa.  -- Just kidding on the Melissa part, but that's where it seemed to be heading  --

Fine. I'll do it, but I won't enjoy it...

"You're Crazy"

Have a great weekend looking at your speakers. And please try to get in a little listening too. Everything in moderation...

When I was younger I'd stand in front of the mirror all the time and look at my gear, now I keep the lights pretty low, never put on my glasses and NEVER a full length mirror. Life is to short and so are other things these days. About my speakers. I like mine just fine TOO. :-)

When we were testing after sound coat.. This was a few years back..

Merry Christmas
