Are my standards too high?

Dear Gang,

I have heard a number of box speakers and only the cream of the crop are just about tolerable. In other words there is nothing out there that can truly impress me regardless of price.

The KEF LS50 is a state of the art world class loudspeaker. It has won multiple awards and is used by John himself. A few years ago I decided to go and listen to a pair to see what the fuss was about. They were not setup perfectly but there was no bass. All i could hear was typical uneven ported bass response. The highs were a bit bright and off axis response was uneven. Horrible. I then got a chance to hear the kef Ref ones which were supposed to be the finest speaker that could be made by mankind. They failed to impress me. No bass at all. Then i heard the blades and finally i heard proper bass below 40hz. But the blades were not perfect either. And given their cost they should have been perfect. They didnt sound very refined. Imaging was a bit average.

Gang, I have come to the realization that either most speakers out there are a hoax (overpriced and overrated) OR my standards are simply so high that the worlds finest 'peaker engineers cannot produce anything that can satisfy my perfect standards.

The only answer to this riddle is to train audiophiles to understand that the speakers currently on the market are substandard goods. We need to also attract better quality minds to the world of speaker design and weed out the people that dont know what theyre doing. There are obviously some people who are better at doing things than others. Am I right? If we can get rid of the worst speaker designers out there and replace them with superior designers, then we will end up with much better speakers on the market for us to enjoy. Its a win win

Champagne taste and beer budget Is a bummer but manageable.

...as long as your budget allows for the better beers, you’ll be doin’ just fine! ;-)

"Are my standards too high?"

IQ too low me thinks.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Ok, what's with the name callin'?  Nobody need to be that way. Good fun, can't be callin people a booger eatin' spaz. If you call names like booger eatin' spaz, The real BOOGER eatin' spazs will feel all left out. AND THAT AIN'T KOSHER, UNCOUTH, and just not in the spirit of "kenjit".

Second, like a smart guy pointed out here on AG,  why is your nose so close to your mouth? just sayin'.

<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Third, I'm thinkin' I need to make him a perfect pair of speakers.

Ok Guys/Gals/Other, what is the perfect size, shape, weight, (no color, primer only) driver complement, and cabinet material, NO GROUT, or Concrete. Under 500lb and over 500lb.  K I need a CC #, as soon as the AG crew all chime in.  I'm pretty sure it's gonna be close to the Johnny Cash Cadillac. The left may be a little different than the right. Shorter, or taller.. bigger, heavier, number of parts, hmmm,

Left wifi, right bluetooth, the "Phantom" speaker in the middle, ZERO power requirements, YUP very special design..

The reason being, they will be a work in progress, could take a while, and well, bound to change our minds a time or two...AY?

I'll start a Thread what do you think? Need a title that won't get bumped.

Regards
Oh, and to answer your rhetorical question, no your standards aren’t too high, your pockets aren’t deep enough and your brain is too small
The solution is simple.  Take a deep breath, close your eyes and wish away those pesky laws of physics that are always getting in the way of things.
Are your standards too high?  YES, also not based in any reality I have encountered.  As for your 'perfect' standards, sounds like the 'perfect' sound of early CDs.  As for this infatuation with sub-40 Hz, are you actually listening to material with content in that range or do you just want a Disco/Hip-Hop thump.  Personally, I think you made the whole damn thing up.
Please just go find another hobby that you enjoy. Your weekly whiney rant is tiresome.
LOL, if my browser is not messing with me I see 50 thread starters with only 9 remaining.  That is an outstanding deletion rate.  Reminds me of some other characters that were here back in the early days from 1999 to 2009.

" If we can get rid of the worst speaker designers out there and replace them with superior designers, then we will end up with much better speakers on the market for us to enjoy. Its a win win"

- Yea, that’s the solution. Now go do that and don’t report back until you have that accomplished.

" Because my standards are so high that it won’t be easy to produce a speaker that can exceed my perfect standards"

- Exceeding perfection, I think you have work to do ....
Remember, don’t report back until both the above, quoted items have been done.
A trophy and a box of Oreos will be waiting for you ...

Some individuals here have as their primary goal not the establishment of a great rig, but to maintain presence on the leader board, the Popular Discussions section of the threads. They keep putting out inane posts until they see their moniker in the right area. Ego trip.
Rather than taking pot shots at other people's work, try building your own.  You have access to the same materials and physics that all  speaker designers do.

It's not hard to build a speaker that works.  It's not even that hard to build a speaker that sounds pretty good....especially in today's world with computer and internet assistance.  It gets increasingly more difficult to build a really, really good speaker that's profitable and attainable to audio consumers.
Brings to mind the expression my Pa used regularly: "He likes the sound of his own voice." Ignore him and he'll go away usually works, but in this case I doubt it.
"exceed my perfect standards".

Oxymoron, K.

You can't exceed perfection. If you're lucky, talented, and pay a lot of attention, you might get close to perfection. You can't achieve it though. There is no perfect here on earth..

But there sure is obsession with trying to achieve perfection, or is there K? Really I wonder?

Go and find some MBL 101 X-tremes, when the shows start again. They’re mighty impressive with orchestral music. At Munich a couple of years ago that was all they were playing on them so I don’t know how they’d fare with a bit of motörhead or Tool, maybe you find out.

I think you’ll find all hifi is a compromise, even the oligarch level stuff.
Because my standards are so high that it won't be easy to produce a speaker that can exceed my perfect standards
