We get chest-thumping, fatuous patriotism every day on the back of every stupid bumper. I'll be playing these:

'Born in the U.S.A.,' Bruce Springsteen
(a young American kid sent against his will to fight in Vietnam, only to return home to a country arguably as hostile)

'Fortunate Son,' Creedence Clearwater Revival
(the poor were sent to fight and die in Vietnam while the wealthy were spared)

‘Pink Houses,’ John Mellencamp
(“Ain’t that America”)

'This Land Is Your Land,' Woody Guthrie
(“There was a big high wall there that tried to stop me / The sign was painted, said ‘private property’ / But on the backside, it didn't say nothing / This land was made for you and me.”)

‘Independence Day,’ Martina McBride
(“Well she lit up the sky that Fourth of July...Let the whole world know that today is a day of reckoning”)

'American Woman,' The Guess Who
(The 'woman' represents a warmongering Uncle Sam in the era of Vietnam.)

‘American Pie,’ Don McLean
(“Bye, bye, Miss American Pie … them good old boys were drinking whiskey in rye singing ‘this will be the day that I die.’”)

@hilde45 I love how Sean Hannity used MacBride's "Independence Day" as the theme song to his show.

Great choices one and all. Allow me to go in another direction and say I don't want to hear anything from Ted Nugent or Kid Rock.

All the best,
Nonoise

I just want to say I recently discovered Sonny and Cher (yes, they had been an unknown duo until now) their voices and harmony is incredible.

@grislybutter Sorry to rock the boat but it could be seen as I just don't like their music.

All the best,
Nonoise

Don’t understand the direction that some of the comments arrive from but it was just a friendly inquiry for a fun afternoon. What’s goin on here? Leave it alone and just have some fun. Holy cow. Get a grip.

Just a friendly post about what friends and family, kids, might enjoy for the holiday. No opinions about one’s folly.

Jefferson Airplane - Volunteers of America

Neil Young - Rockin' in the Free World  / American Dream

+1 Grateful Dead: U.S. Blues/Wave that Flag

Jimi Hendrix: Star Spangled Banner (preferably during breakfast, and at louder volume than normal listening levels)

Sorry to rock the boat

nonoise No you're not.

hilde45 geez, put some booze in the blender and chill out. Or try Canada.

We're enjoying SXM Radio Red, White and Booze, and doing the best we can to follow the instructions.

Waiting on the vintage war bird fly over and fireworks off the barge in Dana Point, CA. Then we'll switch to the simulcast sound track.

I'll be thankful that I was able to become a US Citizen and enjoy dual citizenship. (and that I have finally forgiven the USA from kicking my ancestors butts)

And then go to bed.

Grateful Dead: Jack Straw

Leaving Texas, fourth day of July
Sun so hot, clouds so low
The eagles fill the sky

Catch the Detroit Lightning out of Santa Fe
Great Northern out of Cheyenne
From sea to shining sea

Charles Ives - A Symphony: New England Holidays

X - 4th of July

Any Louis Armstrong Hot Five or Hot Seven (Satchmo liked to say he was born on the 4th of July)

Hope everyone enjoyed their Independence Day!
