"4th Of July" was written by Dave Alvin, originally of The Blasters, though briefly a member of X. Then a solo artist, and currently a partner with Jimmie Dale Gilmore.

The Blasters: Their 1980 album entitled "American Music". They were (are?) a Los Angeles band playing 100% American Roots Rock music: Rock 'n' Roll (meaning from the 1950's), Rockabilly, Blues, and Hillbilly. Their main songwriter, for you youngin's, was Dave Alvin.
