Why is Audiogon checking my browser?

For the past few days, I keep getting a prompt to show I am human. Lots of Capcha that even though I input the proper number of items, prompts me to another Capcha.

If this is the future, I am going to bail.

When it shows pics of a bunch of records and asks me to pick the all analog recordings, my head's gonna explode!

I picked the MoFi ones as analogue, and it would not let me on.

That is an annoyance, for sure.  But nothing compared to reading a subject topic headline, your interest getting clicked, and then opening the post to find that it has been deleted by the "Audiogon Big Brother Admin's" who feel the need to protect and nurture us weak members 24/7.  Or reading a post with 65 replies and 40 have been removed.

Let's see how long before I get a free staycation at the re-education camp....

gdnrbob - - Just curious what browser you're using.  I use Safari, and there are a couple of sites I regularly visit where the dreaded capcha demon plagues me - - until I change the browser to  Firefox. Then, no more capcha crap.  Just a thought.

I’m using an old Apple IPad and the only time I see a Capcha is when I start a new thread.  Never on replying to a thread.

Got this verification bullsh*t on both computers, running XP on one and WIN11 on the other. There's nothing here worth this hassle. Next time this happens I'm audioGONE from here...

Stop being a bunch of pansies. Admin can just be doing this to weed out potential spammers and scammers. My OS is a very old one and I used to get the Captcha test like everyone else quite a while ago for that very reason.

The world is not out to get you.

Something has been going on At Audiogone and it’s not good, BUT I will not blame them for using Captcha. Sites need protection against bots to protect the US as much as to protect themselves. I just wish we didn’t have to go through the birthing process of getting this in place. I kept getting blocked not because I failed, but because The website NEVER displayed the captcha puzzle to solve so everything ended there. It has since been fixed and I am login in fine W/O any hassles.

Also From a bunch of people who have such HIGH standards in sound quality, the complainers here seem not to care about any kind of quality security on this site. Funny how that works.

There's an influx of scammers at the moment so I'm sure Tammy has her hands full. I bought at item from a member with multiple sales history, but apparently he was hacked and someone was using his account to sell high ticket items. The seller then 30 minutes later posted another ad under a different user with different pictures. I'd bet they're trying to keep the scammers at bay.

I am using Chrome browser, and the same PC to log in for years. I know earlier, I would get locked out if I was using a different computer, but this Capcha stuff is really tedious.

Today, it seemed to check the browser and allowed me to log in without the Capcha stuff. Hopefully, it holds.

I know scamming has gone to new depths, but putting the onus on members makes using the site tedious.

No worries Capcha will be antiquated in the not-to-distant future as AI becomes even more prevalent.

I didn't know bots were scammers...must be hard to pack up gear when it has no arms or legs.

BTW, I have never had the Capcha screen come up on A'gon (now I probably just screwed myself).

I haven't been seeing any spam threads which were popping up every night.  I think Tammy, et al are trying new security methods.

there's still times that i try to access the AG home page and i get a page saying that i have been blocked by AG.  go figure.

I get block Every time I read a different topic and am getting frustrated by having to continually Restart my computer to browse different topics....(insert mumbling under breath here...)

I was not allowed on to the Audiogon site, the page said it didn't recognise me. I contacted Tammy, took only a few minutes to fix. They must be installing new security measures.

@ticat  the way i got around this is going to forum.audiogon.com.  no need to restart your compuer.

It seems the new security system has some bugs.

Now, I get the 'checking browser' screen, but it moves onto the page I wanted.

Usually Capta is used to reduce attacks from netbots.  It could be that Audiogon has noticed some logins from netbots that have been getting past their member access controls.  The bots could have been using Audiogon to spam or attack its members with private messages.

My 11 year old iMac's browser doesn't experience anything of the sort described in this thread. It was only during the installation of the new features that Captcha was doing it's thing.

Like already mentioned, some bots could be piggybacking on your accounts at random. Amazing, just how much info they have on your nowadays. Just this morning, I got an email from a NFT site stating overdrafts on my PayPal account and seizing my PayPal bank. They had my last name and complete address, down to the apt # but the zip was off by one digit.

I love getting those just for the chance to reply with some huge font nasty replies.

Running Win10, watching on Chrome....don’t remember a captcha ever....

Maybe one once upon...*shrug*

Guess I’m secure enough...YHO may vary... ;)

Able to look at anything almost everywhere I can go....

Software and the hardware it occupies can be just as fussy as....well.... *points at stuff*

Sorted out your drives and caches lately?

Have you simply opened a help ticket, explained your issues to Tammy and obtained a response? How is anyone else is going to help

You'd think clicking on a link that Audiogon sent in an an email digest wouldn't be subject to such foolishness. There are better ways to protect a site than Cloudflare...without imposing onerous processes on legitimate users. Site ops can see the ip addresses of their users....

@facten

I posted the thread because I was not sure if I was the only one having this problem.

sometimes I get from Google search "we noticed unsually big traffic from your computer":)))

The inconsistency of this "security" check is frustrating.

My XP computer gets "approved" sometimes and at others, like tonight, the verification bs runs for hours with no approval. Using my tablet goes through every time. Clearly the parameters are bogus - my systems aren’t secure at noon and insecure several hours later.

Based on some of the responses I’m reading some of you folks need to seriously update your os. Not a knock, just sayin’. I use Firefox and never have an issue.
