The speed of sound will not be a determinant factor between 40 and 75%....in an audible way....

This point was made by me for the best conservation of electronic pieces....Stay calm....

And for the rest of us that live in a place where normal rules of physics apply, the sound will travel faster when it is more humid.

Humidity is not a good thing for any electronic device.... This is common sense...I keep my audio room to 50 %...

Try common sense +sarcasm....

How important this is would be a factor of room size and what your settling time is for higher frequencies. Not sure I would want to use low humidity to address slap-echo though.  If you have a larger room, it could definitely make a measurable difference.  It also makes a difference in what you hear in a live performance especially in a large venue non-amplified like the symphony.

Electro - MAGNETIC.  Super simple here, but voltage sets up an electrical (electrostatic) field, causes carriers to move, moving carriers generate a magnetic field, . While the field is predominantly outside the charge carrier (wire), the wire heavily impacts the charge carriers and hence the magnetic field, and its effect dominates at low frequencies (in most cases). While the field theoretically goes on forever, the field strength is far far higher between the conductors and close to them. Hence things that are between the conductors and really close to them have an effect, things farther away very very quickly stop having any effect.


When you take a lack of understanding of electricity and couple it with a product of unknown functionality, you end up with all kinds of creative explanations, but at the end of the day, you have resistors, capacitors, inductors, and throw in some active circuits.  Sure there are memristors, but those are contentious already and not applicable. What I am saying is what appears are magic to some, could be but simple circuitry to others, and it probably wouldn't take long with some basic circuitry to get a pretty clear idea of what it does (or does not do).

Einstein is exactly what he used to be. A golden ear audiophile who can hear the difference when suspending his cables with rubber bands but not, according to himself, the difference when tube rolling in his tube integrated.  How is this even possible?

mahgister and millercarbon make some good points. Any material in close proximity to the signal will change the sound for better or worse. Identical electronics with cases made of different materials will sound different. Different mats, feet, platforms and furniture materials will change the sound. One needs to experiment with this in order to understand what materials work best.

It is easy to verify that a field around the amplifier interact with all the pieces in the amplifier...

Take a piece of shungite put it on the amplifier and you will hear a compressed sound, at best more dense sound...

Take a piece of quartz put it at the same place you will hear a more decompressed sound at worst harsher...

What is The Gate exactly? A noise filter?

No, it is not a filter. What it is "exactly" is very hard to say. What I can say for sure is it is not a filter. In the normal sense of the word, a filter is a screen of some kind that allows to pass more of what you want and less of what you don’t want. If that sounds obvious well, you’re the one who wants to know exactly what it is. Sometimes all we can do is tell you exactly what it is not. It is not a filter. Nothing goes through it.

It does however seem to behave as if it were a filter. It sure sounds like the power is hugely cleaner. If you have ever listened late at night and loved the sound, well this is like that only about a hundred times better.

Everyone wants to know exactly what is going on. No matter how many times or how clearly it is stated we don’t know- and wouldn’t tell you if we did! Only thing more frustrating than that is when I DO tell people as best I can what I THINK is going on, nobody cares. So I am about THIS CLOSE to telling you all to STUFF IT!

The signal is not what we think it is. The signal is not electrons traveling down wires like water in a pipe. Yes this does happen to some degree but nowhere near enough to account for what we hear. The vast majority of the signal is the fluctuating electromagnetic field created by and surrounding these same electrons.

Because the signal is a field emanating from and around electrons in a conductor, and not merely within the conductor itself (or along its "skin", or any of that malarkey), then all kinds of things placed within this field are going to affect the signal. Study physics, the field radiates out to infinity. I seriously hope you are paying attention, bookmarking, studying, because seriously getting tired having to explain this. Okay not explaining, actually like that part. It’s the nobody getting it part that’s getting old. See my post from April last year. One full year explaining I think is quite enough, and we are just about there.

Now, we all know about all kinds of cool new materials that have fascinating properties like superconducting at room temp. Most of the attention is focused on computing and things where micro-precision is required and so a lot of this research is still in the lab. But the same principle can be used in a gross general application like improving signal transmission in wires. Hello? Beuller! Right.

So you take some of these incredible materials, put them near a wire, the fields interact, and the transmission integrity of whatever is in the wire improves dramatically.

This is exactly how this stuff works. Near as I can tell anyway. This is why it works in an electrical panel. And I am not gonna tell you more except to brag and say I figured a lot of this out all on my own right from the beginning even before getting one and using it. Simply knowing it goes in the panel ought to be enough for you to figure out what is going on. It was for me. Sorry if you’re not up to it. I am. Deal with it.

All this stuff is more or less the same too. This is why Total Contact works even when painted on the outside of caps and transformers and wires. It is much more than a nano-arc reducing contact enhancer. Read this post over and over again until it sinks in!

This is how eMats and eCards work. This is why the empty suit moron is such an unspeakable moron he can’t understand its nothing to do with shape or manufacture or magnets or any of that. This is why Mats work on the outside of speakers. Get it? This is why they work under and over and near all kinds of components. Get it? This is why it works even in a panel way out in the garage. The signal isn’t in the wire, and it is not just in your house or your system either. The signal is a fluctuating field that goes out in all directions and it extends - you can look this up in the physics books - to infinity. And beyond, as Buzz Lightyear would say.

I am not exactly sure what's the tech but can tell you that it lowers the noise floor to vanishingly low levels. Even my Panasonic Plasma pops out with more contrast and clarity. After the result of one in the main panel, I bought another one for the secondary panel but for most of us just one at the main panel was good enough and did most of the goodness. I also have 2 emats on the panels as well.

I have many PPT mats in use in my system. They are their best and most active and effective when they are first placed on a large magnet or a dead large speaker. Not sure why this is the case..you can also " precharge " on a electrical panel. 

I have never encountered a negative reaction with the mats on equipment..except maybe on a cd player and only when I stacked 2 or more mats. I firmly believe the negative is derived from the added mass damping and not from the materials used in the construction of the mat. Fine line between no damping and to much before it harms dynamic structures. Tom

NOT on dac, amplifier or cd player...It will compress the sound....You want a better timbre without compression... 😊

Anywhere else, for example behind the speakers near the cable connectors...

But to begin with try the power conditioner....Or the main electrical box in the room or house or the computer main router....

Thanks for the input Ozzy. It mirrors my experience with Bybee stuff, you have to be very careful where you use them. They seem ok on the consumer unit. I was thinking of importing and selling the PPT stuff in the U.K. at one point but hesitated because of my experience with Bybee.

The Bakoon/Cube combo that I demo is very revealing and doesn’t seem to benefit from these devices in close proximity, like you say.

@oregonpapa ,I remember going through this thread few years ago. Did not know the owner passed away. Looks like they had some good products. I read good things about 'The Gate', but it is not a product that you buy on whim. Surprised that the company nor the products continued under a new ownership.

I have found that as I have improved my component selection the Omega Mats under that equipment seemed to add a edge to the sound. Removing them along with the cards, paste sounds more natural. So I have sold most of them.

But, I still keep some of the mats under my Oppo 205 and other video components.
And, I still have 4 of the Omega Mat +’s inside the breaker box.

Perhaps should i sell my idea instead of giving it free ? 😁

I create what i called a "golden plate"...

Shungite tile+ copper tape on the external side of the application...

I use them all along the main location of my electrical grid with success and no "edge" to the sound...

I use them also behind my speakers posts cables and on my main central electrical panel and even outdoor on the electrical meter box, inside on the main router etc...

I use them with a very small shungite plate tough on my Schuman Generators grid....

But i give idea to all free of charge, and guess what nobody want to try them really....Cost is peanuts compared to competition...

They prefer throwing thousand of dollars of money....

I am too old to create an audio company.... If someone try one i will be interested by his review...

The "golden plates" are my main tool to drecease my house electrical noise floor....What i called one of my embeddings controls...

I don’t bought the Gate and regret it now. In Europe it was not so easy to do, and a bit uncertain (I thought). I still have a bit of Total Contact in the fridge and keep it and hope I can make it last as long as possible. I have 3 Omega in the breaker’ 1 under each amp and preamp, under my Harbeth M40 anniversary.
I can’t understand that a man who had such an illness didn’t prepare  the continuity of his business after his death.
Tim ans his wife were very good people. Their products are the best of the best accessories I ever had in my system.

Those who passed on the PPT products, especially The Gate, will never know what magic these items bring to an audio system. After all this time, I am still astounded by the sound quality I'm getting. In communicating with other A'goners all across the country who took the plunge, I know that they are getting the same results that Millercarbon and I am. 

As a side note: Before Tim passed, he sent me two power cords he had built. They were on loan for three weeks. I put one in the phono stage and one in the CD player. Like The Gate, they were transformative. This, despite the fact that the system already uses some well-respected, Synergistic Research PCs that sound great. I don't believe Tim's cords could have been produced to sell commercially. They were way too labor-intensive to build. The price would have had to be atmospheric in order to make any sense. 

Miller ... I wish you could have tried the PCs. You would have freaked. :-)

What long term results? The Gate is so freaking good how anyone ever manages to disconnect it is beyond me. You went a couple DAYS? I couldn't go a couple MINUTES! 

In my system The Gate is really just the beginning. There's Mats all over the place starting with one on the METER, a few in the panel, strips cut and zip tied along the AC wire, around my step down transformer, inside the conditioner, and speakers, with pieces cut into tubes wrapped around all the wires- speaker cables, interconnects, power cords. 

The amp has Omega e-Cards between and around all the transformers. Total Contact, that stuff is pasted everywhere. Took my electrical panel apart. By apart I mean down to the bare copper bus bars. Pasted those, the neutral bus bar, ground bus bar, and the AC power line its entire length under the house. Coated all the transformers- step down, Active Shielding, conditioner. Pasted caps, inductors, tubes, pretty much everything that can be done without causing a short, inside pretty much everything there is. Tone arm, cartridge, phono leads, the works.  

Long term effects? All this stuff (and more, but Fight Club rules) sounds absolutely fabulous right away, then somehow after a month or so you notice it just got even better. After a couple months though, sad to say, no more unless you buy more. 

Worth it? The last group of audiophiles to drive up from Portland one of them had me play Steely Dan, which I guess must be one of his "reference" things he likes to judge systems with, and afterwards said, "That's the best ever heard that." 

Since then, done even more. Those guys would be shocked to hear how much better it is now! So there's your long term results- sorry if I didn't stand still frozen in place after putting The Gate in but when you got something this good you just want more. And more. And more!

a few weeks back I experimented and took out from the main panel and after couple of days, I had to put it back :-) The soundstage seems to collapse and all the details seems to get smeared. It effected my Panasonic plasma picture quality as well. 

Is anyone still using the gate.... im wondering about long term results? 

Neodymium magnets seem to enhance the 
effects of the Gate.

In an open breaker box, I have cut a strip of an
E+ mat and used double sided tape to stick it to
the side of the Gate that faces the room.

The small barrel shaped magnets are sitting on
the mat strips and the Gate itself, at 2" intervals.

I use the Walker Talisman in 6" clockwise sweeps
over the total open surface of the box, for ten or fifteen seconds,
before a listening session.

Or as they call it in the trades, Heaven’s Gate. Just kidding, no angry emails, please.

Hey are these things UL rated? Maybe this has been asked before. I'm not looking to getting one but had a friend install something totally different which wasn't UL rated and had an unfortunate circumstances happen and insurance refused to cover issue. Please be careful is all I'm saying.

In 2 days I wil receive The Gate from Marigo. I ordered it (along with Mats+ and Cards) a few days ago. It was the very last one of this seller. Ref. my post https://forum.audiogon.com/users/michael_be .

I have a question on the installation of The Gate. In the breaker panel there are 4 wires coming in: L1 - Neutral - L2 and the Earth. I know that there are 2 wires coming out of The Gate. From what I read, the PPT instructions say that one wire must be connected to the neutral and the other to an unused breaker. This way The Gate sees 110 volts. On some posts it is said that The Gate is connected to a 220 volt breaker, and it even sounds best this way. But in fact for The Gate to see 220 volts, each wire must be connected to a separate breaker, one breaker tied to L1 and the other breaker to L2. So as such a (one) 220 volt breaker doesn't exist in the panel. Could someone help me understand this? Also can The Gate withstand 220 volts?

I have a main panel and that's where I put The Gate. I also have a subpanel in the master bedroom closet. I managed to fit four E-Mats into the subpanel ... two original mats and two "plus" mats. The Gate in the main panel was a huge contributor to SQ. The mats were a nice improvement, but not as great as The Gate in the main panel. 

I can't answer your questions regarding the battery-powered generator due to lack of experience, but it sounds like a great place for a few Omega "Plus" Mats.  Maybe someone else with the experience can chime in here.

I have been following this thread for awhile and have a couple of questions.  I have a main panel and 2 sub panels in my house.  The main panel in my house has the audio system and a sub panel has the home entertainment system.  Will The Gate impact electronics on the sub-panel or do you need a Gate for each panel.  Second question  - I have been considering moving to a battery generator like The GoalZero Yeti or The EcoFlow Delta.  This will eliminate the 'noise' from the panel, however these generators also produce 'noise'.  Is it possible to leverage 'The Gate' on one of these power generators.  If so any thoughts on would it be better than having the Gate on the panel.  Thanks for any feedback.

Proud new “Gater” here and wanted to share my initial feelings.  
I’ve been lucky to have the good fortune to have been able to upgrade my gear in a short period of a few years... the results have been phenomenal.
 I wish to say that even with upgrading numerous and various things, and feeling very satisfied with the return on investment, the addition of the gate allows my pieces to really show their capabilities, so much more so, that I can’t say that was even aware of their true potential before.  I do believe that my system is extremely musical and satisfying. I know there is better gear out there, and there is lesser gear out there for sure. But I can honestly say, finally, that I’m not interested in the latest and greatest.   My system plays music now with such truth, that upgrades aren’t something I dream about.  That is freedom.   

Now, I’ve read through these pages, and I’ve seen how ugly and personal things can get.  Be sure, I have no desire for a back and forth with anyone here, respectfully.   I’m just posting my experience with this product.  Nothing more, nothing less. I’m here to discuss the gate.  

 Over the years, I may have come across as over zealous about things I’ve done or got for the system, and while I agree it can be a turn off, especially for those skeptical,(myself included) I must give credit where it is due, and the gate deserves credit for allowing me to enjoy my system to a degree never obtained before.  I absolutely understand the enthusiasm for the gate 

Over the years, I’ve learned that buying a system based on specs doesn’t lead to a satisfying sound.  It leads to bragging rights to a system that may or may not make music.   (Woop dee doo). I’ve learned to place dogma aside and trust my ears. I feel too many of us lose out on some amazing musical experiences because we’re  in the hobby for the wrong reasons.  
I will save the gee whiz comments on how amazing this product has made my system sounds, because you’ve heard them echoed by others already on this thread.  We will leave it with a resounding concurrence on my part. This product is the real deal.   No I don’t know it’s specs, but I love what it does for my enjoyment of this hobby.   Take my opinion and do what you want with it.  I just felt like sharing.

Lucky you, indeed. However, I suspect that hard work and innovation had a lot more to do with your success than luck. :-)

The PPT products build on each other. Every step is an improvement. Once I had the Gate installed, and already having used the TC paste everywhere possible, I thought there was no more to wring from the system. Then along came the Stop-Its and the Omega Plus Mats.

I don’t have an overhead projector like you do, but I do have a rear-projection 73" Mitsubishi TV. I’ve pasted all contacts on the DVD player and the satellite box. I also pasted the connections for the projector bulb. I have the original E-mats under the DVD player and satellite box as well. To say that the picture was improved would be an understatement. And, as the other members will attest to ... I never overstate a position. :-)

Of all the PPT products, The Gate was the most effective. Second to The Gate would be the new Omega + E-Mats. I’m not discounting the TC paste here either. I’m kind of in a quandary at this point trying to decide what ranks where ... but The Gate is definitely number one.

As you know, there’s a 90-day return policy, so you might want to try everything out before you make a final decision. Give Krissy a call. She will be more than helpful and very willing to help you out.

PS: On the mats in the circuit breaker box. I have four mats, plus The Gate in my circuit breaker box at this point in time. I just stacked the mats up against the switches and gently closed the door. Amazing results.

Hi willgolf, the mats have a magnetic side so you simply stick them on your breaker panel box.
Sorry, I can't answer your other questions, I think only you can decide how much improvement other products besides the Gate will have in your system.

I have just completed reading this thread.  OMG.  So, I am building a new house.  I used the PPT paste in my last house on all of my components.  I also used the SR Blue fuse on my Raven Tube amp.  Yes, I did hear an improvement in sound.  So now I am wondering what I really need to do.  

It sounds like if I install the Gate in my 400amp panel that is all I need to do for cleaner power and surge protection.  Why would I also need the Mats?  Cards? Or for that matter the Paste?   How can you really determine the difference in sound quality between these various tweaks?  I find it hard to believe that you will have that much more of an incremental improvement in sound by adding all of these tweaks.

I am going to have another theater room with high end projection.  Would the gate improve the picture from the projector?

When the house is complete I am getting all new equipment.  Lucky me.  
I will paste my components similar to before.  If I don't spend the money on the gate and buy the Mats, I am not sure I understand how they are attached in the circuit panel box?  Do you glue them to the inside panel? 
I have a Lumin X-1 streamer.  It is on one inch footers.  Would you place the mat underneath the Lumin or on top of it?

So the question for me is do I want to spend money on a whole house surge protection system or the Gate?  Or do I just want to get the New SR Orange fuses, paste my contact points and buy a few Mats.  

By the way, my new two channel system will consist of Viking Acoustic Grande Voix speakers, Canary Audio M600 Mono tube amps and C1800 Preamp with the Lumin X-1 streamer.  I know I will have beautiful music even if I don't do a thing.
