Magnepan says; "This temporary suspension on service and parts requests does not apply to warranty service and parts"
You are probably not getting a return call because they can't do anything for you at this time. Magnepan is a small company and they are having trouble keeping up with the boom in hi-fi sales currently. They are doing their best they can but getting people is difficult from what I hear. |
speakers break down?? since when? Never heard such a thing. |
Yours look pretty broken down mozartfan, with missing screws etc. |
Russ69 That's most likely true but leaves me not knowing how long I will have to wait to get my speakers working again. I believe a quick call to take the order and let me know about how long to expect shipment would be in order for an existing customer. |
Dat's the way it is now daze. I just visited a pharmacy with one guy (all day) filling scripts, making sales, taking calls, jabbing walk ins etc. Maybe pan does not have superhuman employees like that. |

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ahh you caught that,, some have 1 screw others 2, none have all 4,,and thor cabuinets are all choped up, took out read port, and cut port at bottom front firing,,and DLVX8 1 cabinet 30 inches tall, other 28.5 inches,..measure 1 cut 3-4 times. not much of a cabnet builder. gaps all over the place... sure ain't AER and Vox's mega $$ cabinets thats for sure ;-) |
Cleeds I have. He can't get through either. |
Wow, that is not Magnepan. IMHO. There must be something going on that would cause such a lack of response, @OP, Though it sounds foolish, I would give it some time to shake out. Magnepan, is a well respected company. And, as a small business owner, I know that sometimes things happen beyond any ones ability to cover. And, in the end, will make good on their obligations. B |
It’s times like this, where you need the manufacturer’s support the most. Not even a return call? No matter how big or small, I’d be getting rid of my speakers if that were the case. If they’re too busy with new orders and forgetting their existing customers, it’s no way to run a business.
Maybe someone there got the vid and had to close down to quarantine? You would think they would say though… |
Their production manager quit and they are struggling to pick up the slack. Their business model is not sustainable. LRSs are so underpriced it creates artificially elevated demand and upsets the whole operation. Nothing that can’t be solved if they simply raise their prices. |
(Shakes head in disbelief while scratching Magnepan off his HiFi bucket list) |
I looked up the covid stats for White Bear Lake and found this: 63,444 cases to date and 980 deaths. The stats are for Ramsey County. Sounds severe. I have called Magnepan at least 10 or more times in the last 20 years. Everyone I have spoken with was a fountain of knowledge about their product, most had worked in every part of the factory, this is their happy lifetime employment. I purchased a set of 1.7i's in January of this year, they were delivered in June. The dealer told me six months waiting at the time of purchase. I am sorry to hear they have not returned your calls. |
Someone missing a screw? @ partroysoundPerhaps you can purchase a temporary used speaker to see you through until Magnepan reopens their parts supply. Then you can sell the temp speakers with hopefully minimum out of pocket net cost provided that the speakers are relatively sellable (high enough demand) |
someone here made a post a few months back **will Magnepan survive?* I think this topic answers the Q. |
Every manufacturer in the US is experiencing parts and supply shortages - from car manufacturers on down. Two main reasons are covid effecting overseas factories and container ships backing up due to labor shortages in the ports. There is also a shortage of commercial truck drivers in the US. A relatively small company like Magnapan would be effected faster than a larger company with more resources. |
I had contacted Magnepan several weeks ago about getting a set of backup panels for my 1.6's. They are 20 years old and working fine. I just wanted to have them another 20-30 years. I called sales and they transferred me to the then production manager (sounds like he might of since left). The production managers voice mail gave an e-mail address. I e-mailed the inquiry that afternoon and he answered back that evening. So, they were busy, but trying to answer requests.
Alas, no backup panels available for 1.6's, just de-lam repair kits. |
Lots of audio companies are in temporary dire straits due to Covid and supply chains drying up.
Hold Tight! I am surprised, that no big name, but very small company, has not gone belly up yet. |
Patience is a virtue. They will come back. |
Magnepan has always had exemplary service. Can't promise it will be back, but if any company would bring it back, it would be them. I have needed them many times and they are a very quick response. Whatever is going on it must be severe, and let's hope it is temporary. Do NOT permanently cross Maggies off your list! |
An answering machine message and a note on the website would be helpful.
Most of us can deal with issues better than unpredictability.
I’m surprised at the companies that struggle to communicate with customers. It’s understandable to have struggles/challenges, but going incommunicado is not.
Orgillian197 pretty much nailed it - I just asked Schiit for a replacement cover to change the appearance of a Modius DAC - they replied that they're already production constrained by a shortage of finished metal goods & their supplier is now 'Tearing other people's hair out...'
Sounds rather Grimmish to me - "eh Brother?" |
At least they answered the phone! |
LRSs are so underpriced it creates artificially elevated demand and upsets the whole operation. Nothing that can’t be solved if they simply raise their prices My dealer complained about this in the summer of 2020 when I had my order for MMC-2's in. |
