HAVE YOU ARRIVED AT YOUR FINAL SYSTEM AND WHAT’S IN IT? WHAT ARTIST IS YOUR GO TO?

My system is Infigo METHOD 4 DAC. METHOD 6 AMPLIFIER. GATO FM6 SPEAKERS. ALL INFIGO AUDIO CABLES. 2 REL 212SE SUBS. I LOVE LISTENING TO AHMAD JAMAL!

...more of a 'cross-grader', myself...agree mostly with our OP, just done on a IPA budget...*L*

@bigtwin i also had my previous system for 8 years until I changed to Infigo last year. I’m really enjoying what I have and I’m going to keep it for a good while.

@Bigtwim

“ My first "system" was a crystal radio with an ear plug at age 8. 60 years later I’ve learned a couple things. I’ve owned a few pieces of equipment. I went 20 years without changing a thing. In the past few years I’ve put together the system I’ll take to the end. “

hmmmm……. You could be the twin brother I never new I had. That is a total description of my audio life, right down to the crystal radio kit my uncle gave me for Christmas when I was 8. I remember, when I got it assembled, I taped it to the headboard of my bed. I didn’t have any money for a proper antenna, so I found a long spool of bare wire, connected it to the antenna input and used nails to hang it around the perimeter of my bedroom ceiling. Then, almost every night at bedtime , I would grab the single earphone and listen to my radio.
It only brought in one station clearly. That station used to broadcast Marquette University basketball games, which is probably the initial reason I attended Marquette U. years later. When there wasn’t a Marquette game on, the radio station played good ol’ 1957/58 rock and roll, which is probably the initial reason I became a musician and now an audiophile.

Like you, my system was basically unchanged for about 20 years and then about ten years ago, I got the audiophile bug.  I have recently finished my audio system and now my system is just about listening pleasure.

I haven’t remembered the crystal radio in quite a while. Thanks Uncle Dick, for the incredible Christmas gift; and thanks, my new twin brother, for reminding me.

Cheers,

Tim

@ozzy do you have a personal issue with @calvinj . Is this a real rule in the terms of service or one of those unwritten policies? Just curious, I am reading between the line and it seems there is some bad blood.

We all come to this hobby for the same reason...

We love music...

Then some seems to decide to stop upgrading when they reach some minimal acoustic satisfaction threshold...For money reason only or like me because they can listen music now without being bothered by sound defects or lacks or unbalanced acoustic problems coming from the gear or from the room acoustic or the two ...The reason why i am not bothered by evident S.Q. problems no more is a good synergy between well chosen components and embeddings controls well done...

Some others , because of no lack of money, goes higher toward an optimal acoustic satisfaction treshold ...
In these groups there is those who had learn what to do in basic acoustics and embedding controls , and those who put great faith in price tag only and dont take the arduous amount of time to learn ...

Beginners must know that most audiophiles will be in the obligation to go on the first road with a limited budget... Then if they want to enjoy the minimal acoustic satisfaction threshold , they had much to learn about synergy first and mechanical, electrical and especially acoustic controls BEFORE upgrading if possible if basic synergy between components is there for sure....

The other group with no limit in money or way less limit must know that the price tag is not linearly related to S.Q. and they too will be in the obligation to do studies and experiments if they want to go even to the minimal acoustic satisfaction threshold and pass it toward the optimal acoustic satisfaction threshold ....

In any case we must experience natural timbre, spatial acoustics differentiation qualities and immersiveness to SOME BASIC LEVEL ... At least on a minimal level as i am or at the top optimal possible level ... But you must know this, at any price the learnings curve, the acoustic studies and the experiments are the same ...

As say the geometer to the pharaoh , there is no price in gold a pharaoh can pay to know geometry save the study work itself ...There is no royal road...

Price tag and money dont even buy the minimal acoustic satisfaction threshold in many case then certainly not the top optimal acoustical satisfaction level ...

Sorry to blew the balloon...

Many musicians dont bother with a serious quality playback system because  music perception  transcend sound qualities perception ...And the truth is that a minimal acoustic satisfaction level  is enough for most people anyway to enjoy music  with a relatively very good sound at low cost ... Optimal level of acoustic satisfaction cost a lot in money and   in time invested anyway...

@jacobsdad2000 yes. Sold him some infigo cables. He wanted to try the speaker cables and our owner of our company took a while to produce them because we of course are a new company. I didn’t get to get them to him fast enough. I had another customer who asked for a demo first. He got mad and had been going after me ever since. I don’t say much out of respect for the owner of our company. We allow customers to demo cables etc. I’m just tired of it honestly. Man I’m not going to say anything bad about @ozzy he bought a lot of cables from us. The world is too big to be negative. Man I just wanna enjoy the hobby. Yes I work for infigo but I’m an audiophile for life first. Time to move on from the negativity. Man it’s pretty obvious at this point but I have a lot of people who know me and that I’m a good guy. Thanks.

@ozzy I do not know you or @calvinj from Adam but my deductive reasoning skills tell me his CAPS LOCK was depressed while typing his post. only 4 words are lowercase. Calvin maybe you should disclose that you are a dealer and that would resolve this issue.

My system is Infigo METHOD 4 DAC. METHOD 6 AMPLIFIER. GATO FM6 SPEAKERS. ALL INFIGO AUDIO CABLES. 2 REL 212SE SUBS. I LOVE LISTENING TO AHMAD JAMAL!

@ozzy can’t tell people what to do or how to post. Look you asked me to stay off your thread on the other forums. Stay off mines as well. Let it go. We are all 50 plus at this point.

Everyone I list rel and gato in my posts as well.  I listed my system i have not in this post asked anyone to try or buy anything. This post is about the journey. What you have and how you got there. What do you like to listen to etc.

Sometimes it feels like half the people in this hobby are also involved in the industry, in some capacity. Anyways, I don't see a problem if he's a dealer for his cables. That was not the focus of this thread.

I don’t have a horse in this race, but ....

I like this forum because, for the most part, it allows enthusiasts to share their opinions about gear without ulterior motives. Of course, dealers are also audiophiles and have every right to participate. But if you’re going to mention a product which you happen to sell, then it’s ethical to also state your affiliation upfront. If anything it will enhance the dealer’s credibility.

Carry on please.

I've known Calvin for several years...I've met his family and he was nice enough to take my wife and I to dinner on his dime. Calvin is a honest person, but it's easy to post stuff on forums without truly knowing the person you're trying to disparage.

After owning several cables in my system, Calvin sent me Infigo's Signature XLRs to try in my system. I purchased them and Calvin told me that Infigo was coming out with speaker cables as well. It took longer than I anticipated, but Calvin eventually received some demo speaker cables and sent them to me. I preferred my Clarus Crimson speaker cables and returned the Infigo speaker cables. I honestly believe someone didn't like that it took so long for Calvin to receive the speaker cables...which was out of his control and that someone else received them prior to him. It's so silly it's laughable.

Tomic

Thank you it does sound good

Nice to be in a place where I'm not wanting something more.....for now anyway

Have started daydreaming about Magico speakers for some reason

@jacobsdad2000 look. I’m not trying to sell anything in this post.  I’m a dealer for infigo.  I’m not asking anyone to buy anything in this thread. It is about audio.  Personal issues aside I even mention that I am in the posts. This discussion is about systems and journey and music not about @ozzy He has personal issues that have nothing to do with my posts.

@everyone I did the thread for the reasons of finding out what gear folks have cycled through.  What music that they use as a reference and how they got there. If I came in here gushing about the equipment asking people to try it etc. That’s one thing but I’m not. So I post as an audiophile. If I’m trying to seek you something or get you to try smthg I will always be upfront. I’m asking about your journey THATS ALL IN CAPS

@calvinj I was just pointing out the bias against you by Ozzy. That is his deal, I do think that dealers should disclose their affiliation in the forum. The administration here should update their terms of service. Personal IDC as I am not buying anything anyone is selling on these forum pages. I think it is weak marketing and they should pay for ads. There are a few dealers here that cross that line, not you to the best of my knowledge. I am going to move on from this conversation.

@mulveling I didn’t want this thread to be about being a dealer of anything. @ozzy brought it up.  I wanted to know what people had.  Why they liked it? How long they had it? How they got to this point and more importantly what was the reference music tracks they used. I didn’t try to sell people anything on this thread. I could have said that we allow demos etc I didn’t bring that up here. I just talked music and journey that’s all.  Thank you for understanding. The truth of the matter is he knows I will not say much because I do work for a company.  So he feels like he can say anything he wants without repercussions.  I run my own firm outside of me being an audiophile or dealer so it doesn’t matter to me.  Thanks for understand ing

Ozzy,

Who are you to tell Calvin what or how to post? What happened on WHATSBESTFORUM with you? No one is perfect, including you!

@ozzy +1

If someone is going to mention a product on this forum that they also happen to sell, regardless of context or intentions, the ethical thing to do is to let people know. Not sure why the OP simply won''t acknowledge something as simple as that. None of us were born yesterday ... we can read between the lines you know ;)

@carlsbad2 you speak truth. Why do I have an itch to try borrenson speakers or a raidho? But that could throw off all the synergy I have in my current system.  One other thing is I have not only chose gear by price. Yes the system is pricey but design is also important.  My gato designer used to design for Gamut so I took a chance on the gatos and haven’t looked back

@arafiq I get what you re saying but this is personal. The only reason it got brought up is because the guy has a personal issue with me. Not being altruist at all. If someone is trying to sell you something yes let them know. I’m not trying to sell you anything in this post only ask your opinion and experiences. So if I post about music do I have to mention Infigo. No. I’m not going to. It is what it is.  Enjoy the journey and leave the personal stuff to be personal.  Let’s get back to the post.  I’m an audiophile first. Was one before infigo will be one after infigo. It is what it is.

I have one main system and also 2 1/2 other systems consisting mostly of gear that used to be in my main system.

The main system has been static for several years and I see no prospect of needing to make any changes. Wilson Maxx2, CJ Premier 14 pre, CJ Premier 11a power, VPI TNT V/SME V/ Koetsu Urushi/Vendetta SCP2-D phono, and digital streams to a Moon 280D DAC

@calvinj

I have a pair of the Gato PWR-222s and the PRD-3S (not using the DAC) and I haven't looked back either!

@almosthome i think the company with my fm6 model went after the high end speaker market. They made the fm30 and fm50 after my model. The fm6 is an exceptional speaker. It shares traits of a 30k gamut speaker that I think the designer of the gato had a hand in before he made the fm6 when they started gato. It is truly a gem. I have attempted to replace it several times but the costs seem to be 22-25k to get the same level of performance. My speaker retails at 14k. I paid around 11k 8 years ago. I’m never selling it.

Like @mahler123  said,  this is my final system until it isn’t.

And I listen mostly to Jazz, so I can’t pick just one artist.

For sure if i win lottery i will buy a 50,000 bucks new audio system...😁😊

Not because i need it , i dont need it at all , my days are filled with music on my well embedded 700 bucks modified headphones or speakers dual system , then unique headphones and unique speakers because modified for the best and i  had passed then with them over the minimal balanced acoustic satisfaction threshold...

I am lower than the optimal balanced acoustics satisfaction threshold, but being on the minimal treshold dont means that timbre of instruments are unnatural, nor means that i lack bass (50 clear hertz on speakers and 25 hertz on headphones ) no more than i lack anything in spatial characteristics of sound nor in immersiveness ...

Then upgrading with a 50,000 bucks system , thanks to the winning lottery, does not means that i need it now to experience audiophile experience at all ...

Why ?

Because before this upgrade i learned acoustics and i learned how to embed my low cost system mechanically electrically and acoustically ...

I suffered all my life listening music , because of bad sound , even owning one of the best speakers in the world , the Tannoy dual concentric ...

Why ?

Because before retirement i never learned acoustics basic science nor anything about embeddings working controls and "tweaks" (which are secondary additions to embeddings controls ) ... I was convinced by marketing and reviewers that in audio only money can talk loud ...

I was ignorant ...

I am no more ignorant ....

I dont need a 50,000 bucks system by frustration because the 700 bucks one is bad or defective, it is not ...

The upgrading will not be a SOLUTION but only a cherry on an acoustic cake i control at will and it will be another costlier synergetical system because now i know what is electrical and acoustical synergy ...

Acousticians dont care about the audio design price if the audio design is synergetical and relatively good , and they not how to put any good audio system at any price on his corresponding moon for sure , a 700 bucks system dont compete with a 50,000 one... But the two can be stellar in their own way ...

I’m old school. But my system is ever evolving. I dig listening to vinyl most. My electrostatics are still serving me well. No sub needed. In fact, I recently sold the sub because it wasn’t being used. I swap between tube monos and solid state Class A monos, but mainly tubes. I use a dac and cd transport only occasionally.

Kudos to having a passion for Ahmad Jamal! A heckuva player and band leader! My passion is for Miles, and Wes. I’m still stuck in the 50’s jazz scene. Great thread !

Grimm MU1 streamer/Lampizator Horizon DAC-preamp/Gryphon Antilleon EVO amp/Rockport Cygnus speakers/Shunyata---Altaira ground system--Everest power cond--all cables are Omega or Sigma V2. 4 Synergistic purple fuses. (subs are Mini Marty roundovers with 18 inch B and C drivers, MiniDSP SHD room correction and crossover with PS Audio M700 monos-frequency is just 30 to 16hz, mains signal does not go through the MiniDSP, subs "tuck in" under the Rockports. Tuning done by Deer Creek Audio).

I listen to Boz Scaggs and the 2 live concerts from Jackson Browne. I use the live Browne tracks as I can hear more and more of the audience coments as my system improves. I know this is an odd choice, but what was some mumbles 5 years ago I can now understand almost completely.

@jacobsdad2000 man I post here to relax and get away from the serious work I do as a lawyer. I love the hobby. I have built some great relationships in it. I don’t care to argue. I’m posting as an audiophile just like everyone else. I try to learn more each day to make my listening experience better. I have not one time in this post pushed the equipment that I sell. That’s not the purpose for this forum. I will push my equipment at upcoming shows. But this post is what I like to do off work. Learn as much as I can and engage with my fellow audiophiles. I will continue to do that. Audio is a hobby first. Side job second. Full disclosure. That guy is hell bent on some kind of revenge for a perceived slight. That’s his issue not mines. I’m going to be posting a lot and most will have nothing to do with the brand I work with. So I’m not going to always bring that up.  Just my two cents my brother.

@calvinj I hear you, that’s to bad. I have friends in the industry and they just stay away from these forums for that reason.

@jacobsdad2000 fun in the hobby comes first for me. I totally understand. But the minute I can’t freely talk audio I’m out of it all. I enjoy it immensely. I’m listening right now. Lol.Not gonna let one person or situation steal my joy. I’m in this hobby cause I love it not because I have to make a living at it. I have lived a blessed life. I don’t have have to shill on forums. I just wanna learn and enjoy.

I’ve spent 35 years trying to recreate any live Jerry Garcia performance in my living room that could imitate just some of the energy from the stage of whatever recording. Its always gotten better, every five years or so, and now I’m "there". Going sailing soon due to age, so some land based games and quests have to be called "good enough."

T+A DAC 200 >

McIntosh C500T>

McIntosh MC-601 Monoblocks >

B&W 802 D3 with each havng a REL Gibraltar G1 MKII behind it.

I enjoy the gear and hobby side quite a bit, built all my own cables, except the USB and Kimber Speaker cables.

Listen too all kinds of stuff, anything really except recent "op" music. Jambands I guess make up 60% of it.....Always digging through the "complete" Grateful Dead Library (every show ever recorded, including many soundboards. Almost every Widespread Panic show up to 2001. Since 2010 been on the Phish wagon due to their exceptional playing, writing, and their insane live sound (best I have ever heard). What they’[re doing these past couple of years live is off the freakin’ hook. Really digging Billy Strings, Gov’t Mule (and all the old Allman Brothers live shows). Older stuff, plenty of Reggae on weekends, Little Feat (love Lowell George)...just due to the exceptional sound quality I’ve rediscovered via HD FLAC and DSD I’ve been hoarding all the old remasters of blues and jazz artists, sort of a discovery process for me as there is so much material out there to dig into to. Next to actually cranking the system to "11" I just as much enjoy researching older recordings and then trying to find the best versions, loads of fun and there’s a group of friends who join in the search.

We don’t give a crap  about arguing about power cables and tubes, just friendly ribbing to step up the system!

Thanks for the bandwidth, remember is just all about fun!
