Favorite guitar players not named......

We all know there names Hendrix, Page, Clapton, Beck Stevie Ray. But who are your favorite guitar players that are not house hold names? Here are a few of mine not in any order.

Robert Fripp
Martin Barre
Richard Thompson
Roy Buchnan
Rory Gallagher
Mason Ruffner
Neil Young and Lindsey Buckingham know but not so much for the guitar work.
also Dave Alvin and Alvin Lee

Here are a few of mine:
Jesse Cook
Chris Standring
Jim Adkins
Chieli Minucci
Craig Chaquico
Chuck Loeb
Steve Oliver

Peter Klett
Stephen Stills
Jorma Kaukonen

If we can include other stringed instruments:
Be'la Fleck
Jerry Douglas
Eric Heywood

Have to second the Michael Hedges vote. I saw him twice in small settings and the guy was incredible. His untimely death was so unfortunate. Here are some others...

Tony Levin
Buckethead
Joe Satriani
Robin Trower
Robert Fripp (a second vote)
Dickey Betts
Warren Haynes
Ken Bonfield (Who? Look him up.)
Anthony Phillips

Duane Allman, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards. Are these too well known?

If so, I'd put Robin Trower, Warren Haynes, Richard Thompson on the too well known list.

Bert Jansch

A musician buddy turned me onto this artist whose music DNA is embedded in a ton of artists from the last 50 years.

Bill Connors, Terry Kath (Chicago), Vernon Reid, Larry Coryell, Mick Taylor, Eddie Hazel (Funkadelics), James Mankey (Concrete Blonde), Oscar Moore (Nat King Cole), Jesse Edwin Davis (Taj Mahal), Bill Nelson (BeBop Deluxe), Shuggie Otis, Steve Cropper, Bill Frisell, Jeff Buckley, Magic Sam, John Abercrombie, Pete Anderson (Dwight Yoakam), Andy Gill (Gang Of 4), Hubert Sumlin (Howlin' Wolf), James Blood Ulmer, Janis Ian, Dave Davies (KInks), David Hildago (Los Lobos), Marshall Crenshaw, James Honeyman-Scott (Pretenders), Duke Robillard, Joni Mitchell and David Williams are all really interesting guitarists who sometimes get overlooked.  There are hundreds of others.
-Paul Weller (The Jam)

-Elliot Easton (The Cars)

-David Byrne

-George Gobel (best ever, IMO)

DeKay

Vince Gill
Jeff Healey
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Muddy Waters
Buddy Guy
Albert King
Robert Cray
Love the call on Bert Jansch, so I'll add his Pentangle band mate John Renbourn.  Jansch was the more influential player, but Renbourn is a miracle of nuance.

All the Fleetwood Mac alum (Peter Green, Danny Kirwan, Dave Mason, Rick Vito and especially Lindsey Buckingham).

David Hidalgo from Los Lobos.

Tommy Emanuel, tho I wish he'd play more interesting material.

Danny Gatton

etc.
As much as I dislike his voice, John Mayer knows his way around a git-box. Elvis could play well (see his '68 come back video). Kenny Wayne Shepard knows how to "do it". Cincinnati's Josh Cole has the right kind of soul...
Definitely agree with so many of those names that have lit up the ears over the years...  I'll admit I am a little surprised that I'd get to add Will Ackerman and an all-time fav, David Lindley, to that list - both are just exceptional.
John Abercrombie

I just recently became aware of him via The Plot record by Enrico Rava. I look forward to getting into his discography. His style is kinda of an airy, kinda trippy, minimalist jazzy otherworldly deal but still swings. At last it is on the above session for the ECM label.

Classical:  Oscar Ghiglia, Eliot FIsk, Jorge Caballero

Other:  Adrian Legg, Leo Kottke, Eldon Shamblin, Oz Noy

Wow! You guys know your guitarists. No one mentioned my favorite artist of all: MASON WILLIAMS. No one here will surely care for him over all. That's an odd fact for a man who wrote Classical Gas; the most played instrumental piece ever.  I've been collecting his work for 40 years now. Joe
Some very good picks have been mentioned here!
I would like to include Roy Clark,Mick Ronson,Steve Winwood,Doc Watson,Charlie Christan,John Frusciante,Tommy Emmanuel
Tommy Bolin
Satriani
Michael Schenker
Brian May
Monte Montgomery
Ian Moore
Alan Morse......
