Is the OP OK?

He was recently MIA for 30 days following a stroke.

Hope he didn't have another one.

you must see that our president is clearly suffering from clinical dementia

@roxy54   no, you must have missed the news that Dr. Bonespurs lost the election and is no longer POTUS.  I do understand your concern about his ideas related  to sunlight enemas and disinfectant injections and airports in the Revolutionary War and windmills causing cancer and Americans having to flush toilets 10 to 15 times and nuclear attacks on hurricanes and drawing on NWS maps with his crayons and etc and etc, but you can relax now because he actually lost the last election.

I've spent the past 5 years interacting with various "unite" groups -- including my own.  Identifying, acknowledging and celebrating our common links and connections (humanity) is a major segment of our work.  Encouraging unapologetic, firebreathing partisans to talk (and, listen) to each other is another segment.  Its a bit like trying to blow on a bowl of chili to cool it off -- while it's still in the microwave.

Here's what I've learned:

- we have a truth crisis.  I have developed a "partisan scale".  The further to the extremes this extends the less willing we are to seek the truth.  Some call it "risk tolerance".  Until we have to courage to call out our own for wrong doing and/or incompetence, the cycle of trying to solve problems is highly compromised, to the degree where we intentionally create them.  This cycle will repeat until we a) fix it, or b) go up (or, down) in flames.  I have developed a dictionary of Lies.  Included is "True Lies" whereby factually correct, yet intellectually dishonest statements or actions intentionally apply the wrong context, omit relevant information, quote other "true lies" as a valuable resource, or imply that dots can be connected when there is no factual basis. This gets a "pass" because noone is "lying".  I find it intersting to observe the phenomena where the IQ level of highly educuated, very intellingent individuals drops by 40% (or more) when the subject moves to politics.  Facts don't matter.  Being right matters.

- The shelf life and voracity of a conspiracy theory is wholly dependant on who is in control of the information at the time.  It has no bearing on actual facts.  Actual "conspiracies" with circular references, criminal intent, and immeasurable harm can be proped up, and sustained for years (and, counting).  Real events that are world-changing, fact based, verified, and corraborated can be brushed aside, or canceled -- labeled as "conspiracy theories", or "misinformation". (see comments above)

- Policians never stop campaigning.  It's impossible to spread a message of unity when the goal is to totally annihilate, discredit, lie about, and demonize all things and people connected to the "other side".  Winning for "the party" is the singular objective.

- History will show that highly flawed individuals can by competant public servants.  The contrast will also show that highly moral, ethical, empathetic, and caring individuals can make the world a more dangerous place.  The fact that Steve Jobs was mean boss and a terrible father probably had little impact on whether our not you purchased a smart phone.

Suggestions for potentially "heated" conversations:

When someone you care about says something politically that fires you up, try this: "You're a good person, and I'm sure you supported your party/candidate/politican for the right reasons, not the wrong reasons."

Let your friends be "wrong".  You may KNOW you're "right".  Let it go.

Remember that a problem is like an AC motor,  It keeps spinning as long as there is a "push" and a "pull".  Remove either, and the motor stops spinning.  It's your call to insert, or remove the push or pull.  Or, keep that motor spinning.

Forums like things bring out our humanity, and I can't overestimate their value.  I've learned a lot about audio, philosophy, religion, and living from some of the smartest people I've even been in contact with on this forum.

Thank you.

I could not agree with you more mapman. Besides old Joe, look at Nancy Pelosi and Diane Feinstein. They need to step aside and allow younger blood in.

We need to stop nominating, electing and re-electing old people who would be long retired anywhere else. Applies to all parties. We need smart young talent not over the hill “ billionaire” dinosaurs. Get the best not the lowest common denominator that sets the lowest bar possible.

Smart doesn't even start until 50.

Some of you remind me of the fake News reporter standing in front of burning buildings, talking about the peaceful BLM riot taking place.. Totally out of touch with reality.

The job of any politician, including the president, is that of a custodian. What we need is to elect eminently qualified custodians and not dangerous demagogues who wish to take us back to the dark ages.

For every advance we make, there are those who wish to take it away and those who just love to cheerlead them on because it hurts or harms others. That's a real, bonafide pathology and anyone of that disposition should be weeded out and banned from holding public office. But it's much too late for that.

As for Joe Biden, he's not good at public speaking but he still has all his marbles. Just ask any Republican who's discussed matters with him in private. They all say he's sharp as a tack and can't be fooled by the same tactics they use on their cult.

We should draft the president and the only disqualifier initially should be to exclude anyone who wants the job. We seem to be forced to choose between the second dirtiest shirt and the dirtiest shirt in the hamper.

mahgister,

I'm not exactly sure about why you posted that old video of Joe Biden speaking to a man in senate chambers, and it's not important, but I find it truly striking how much more mentally capable he obviously was at that time, and it is just frightening to compare that with his speech and behavior now, and to realize that no matter what your party affiliation, you must see that our president is clearly suffering from clinical dementia. He will never be healthy enough for a second term.

I cannot resist...

@mapman We all know what is good versus evil right? Telling the truth is good. Lying is evil. Spreading lies is among the worst things you can do. Also cheating and degrading or harming others. Not to mention an untamed ego....

Unfortunately, study after study indicates that people use the internet to bond with  their tribe and not to learn. Moronic behavior.

If that many people are in trouble because they cannot get formula, then maybe we should have kept part of the republican tax give away a couple of years ago to support social programs or, better yet, actually try to solve what caused the social network to exist in the first place.

Stock buybacks make the rich richer....bet there is no hunger problems for those folks. Can you say US senators with no term limits?

Sorry if I offended anybody.

And are a lack of Russian tubes that big a deal - I mean are they really that good?

Sorry, again.

Providing care for others in need is a valuable service.  Hats off to all!

@mapman

i usually don’t involve myself in internet arguments these days. It’s wasted energy with little reward.

I work in healthcare and have to see the impact of this shortage on parents  everyday right now.. The dismissal of it as no big deal is detached from reality.

That being said, even though there is vehement disagreement on this thread I certainly don’t think anyone is evil or acting malicious.

In short, we can coexist but I refuse to accept the outrage of anyone who happens to be outraged at the idea that I’m not outraged.

You are a very patient and kind person especially with me and my rant...

You are right...

I am a bit upset by the world affair right now...

At least you know now that i am too emotive and i know you are very good heart...

It is pleasure to discuss with you....perhaps it is a less pleasurable experience to discuss with my upset mind...For that i am sorry...

But my films/documentaries recommendation are very interesting....I hope someone will appreciate...

my deepest respect to you...

We all know what is good versus evil right? Telling the truth is good. Lying is evil. Spreading lies is among the worst things you can do. Also cheating and degrading or harming others. Not to mention an untamed ego. It’s not that complicated. Watch out for those guys! The truth comes out in the end. Time will tell. A starting point anyhow. Stick to fundamentals and it will all work out for the best in the end.  Best chance by far in any case.

The internet is doing a great job of exposing people for what they are. Who knew the world was this f’d up?

Just be a force for good not evil. It’s not that hard.

@kingdeezie

You said you read the article, yet you're still singing the same song. Tell you what: let's wait and see what some enterprising investigative reporters come up with and see how things come out in the rinse.

Dollars to donuts, all who decried this situation will have moved on and forgotten about this when its' all revealed, as usual.

It seems some people dont know that babies died in Sri Lanka too...And dont understand why this is so right now...

It seems some people dont know that all that come from insane political agenda of Trudeau/Biden preparing that years ago...

It seems some are so well versed in insignificant political Democrat/republican facts but they dont give a dam about the rest of the world...Like Romans unconcious just before their demise that Roman politic became more and more meaningless by their own hands...

Is it not insane politic to create an enemy when there is none, and putting this created new enemy in the arm of another enemy but this time a more real one ?

Is this a democrat/republican question?

Trudeau is not a democrat nor a republican...But where Trudeau learned his politic and how and by who matter for us Canadians ...

For Biden he is the worst kind of bureaucrat... What is worst Commode emperor or Heliogabale? They were  puppets of their own madness to begin with ... We see it right now...

Empire died by their internal actions way before they died by  some external actions...

This is 2 minutes videos very instructive one...About Scott Ritter claiming after his own official investigation there is no arms of massive  destruction in Iraq and one of the man who want a war at all cost...

@mahgister

I’ve always enjoyed your posts and appreciate that you feel strongly about certain topics.

You seem to be upset that I’m not upset. I am concerned about everything you are upset about, I just tend to gravitate toward solutions oriented problem solving rather than to virtually self immolate with every current event. In short, I seek positives and jettison the negatives. Its an attitude...obviously one you don’t or can’t share. That’s cool. I’ll just keep doing my thing, being overtly happy, employing happy people, doing good when I feel the urge and ignoring those who over react daily about whatever it is that people love to over react about.

No, of course personal savings isn’t enough...but if people have made good financial decisions and been fortunate while doing so, they typically don’t have to make rash decisions when faced with challenges. Once they do make a decision, they typically have the resources to maneuver.

Once again, I thought this was a website for a hobby, one that frankly isn’t a requirement for survival....which classifies it as a luxury. Therefore I assume that those who frequent this website can afford these luxuries. If they can’t, then that isn’t my bucket of excrement to carry.

In short, we can coexist but I refuse to accept the outrage of anyone who happens to be outraged at the idea that I’m not outraged.

@nonoise

That article proves my point. No one is sympathizing with Abbott, they are equally at fault. The FDA was told about the issue back in September. They did nothing.

They waited until four infants died before panic-acting and shutting the plant down without any consideration for how it would impact supply.

It wouldn't have taken much for the FDA to emergency-authorize importation of formula from Europe, Canada, Mexico.

Instead the plant is still shut-down.

Public-safety also involves ensuring supply.

Oh, the poor baby formula manufacture plant. How about a realistic timeline to go by? The power these companies have rival that of any oversight group and even the government. Reminds me of the meat packing plants that made workers work while getting Covid and dying and actually doing nothing to abate it, and having Rump and his Presidential signing statement forcing them to stay open?

One side may err on the side of public safety but the other side actively harms and kills people for a buck and for political points.

By the way, nothing remotely disingenuous about my post. Nice try.

All the best,
Nonoise

@nonoise

You are so disingenuous and your response completely proves my point. You immediately made it democrat versus republican. Hysterical!

Trump isn't in office anymore; get over it. He left 17 months ago. The current president and his administration dropped the ball on this.

Also, the FDA Baby Formula Act? 28 million dollars to the same agency that helped cause the problem? Sounds like a great idea.

@kingdeezie

Please save the sermon, I recognize its a serious problem. I thought this thread was about made in Russia audio tubes. Then.... baby formula gets tossed in and then Sri Lanka. As a parent, its their responsibility to identify alternatives until the supply chain gets worked out.

@ghasley

The federal government becomes responsible for baby formula when it directly gets involved in the purchasing, manufacturing, and import-limiting of the product.

You can't take a significant amount of control and oversight over a product and then when you help break down the availability of it, back-away. That's not leadership or governance; that's cowardice.

The FDA dropped the ball on their investigation and subsequent closure of the Abbott factory. The factory has been closed for over three months because of government intervention and incompetence. Now after the public outcry they've come to an agreement? What happened over the last 12 weeks?

The FDA also has expressly prohibited importing formula from other countries, again until the recent public outcry.

Also, please get educated on the severity of the situation. For many children there aren't any alternatives that don't impose serious risks. Do you work in healthcare? I do. People are bringing infants into the ER out of desperation. There have also been  instances, albeit rare, of children needing surgical intervention (g-tubes) to acquire nutrition because there formula is unavailable.

This issue shouldn't be made benign to save the face of any administration; D or R.

What I find sad and pathetic are people that are so married to their politics that they dismiss the very evident reality that right now infants in this country are at risk of starvation, malnutrition, and death because of the shortage.  These same individuals had no issue casting aspersions at the previous administration ad nauseum for grievances that were far-less tangible.This situation is disgraceful regardless of what type of administration is in charge.

Isn't it amazing just how convenient ones' memory is? It was Rump who erected tariffs and sanctions against Canada for being our enemy which resulted in none of their baby formula being exported to us.

That, and 192 Republicans who cried and wailed about lack of baby formula just voted against the FDA Baby Formula Act.

Get a brain.

All the best,
Nonoise

“It wasn't that long ago when Mr. Potato Head was the cause celebre.”

Mr. Potatohead? The CNN guy Brian Stelter?

All due respect to you but in the event there is an apocalypse, that can only happen once.

Why bother for example with a meteor strike ? ... It will happen once...It is better to invest in arms to defend ourself against China or Russia... 😁😊 Why not bombing them first?

Why bother with anything?

Only matter our savings and shelter...And the number of bombs we own...

And Sri Lanka...I’m not sure how that topic entered the conversation.

This line says a lot about your information level in your news papers....

Why spend every day dwelling on the remote possibility of a cataclysmic event? In addition, what good is it to be right if the world is going to end then to whom would you get to boast that you were right?

Because our political awareness each one of us can help...

And if you have read my posts like a prediction asking to be right by the way , you distorted my post ...Only ostrich act like that...

You dont seems to give a dam about the world right now...I dont predict the worst , we have already entered into the worst for more than 2 years right now and we go worst by the day...

Accumulating savings is not an answer ...

Ok, at least listen to two excellent film/documentaries and ask yourself why these two old films are actual right now?

They are so entertaining you will loved them...And they are amazingly right in their description of the world...

For sure the Intelligence level of these artists were not low...

For the anecdote Kubrick I.Q. was estimated to be 200... Orson Welles is near him...And i dont think Fritz Lang lucidity about his era put him much much lower than Kubrick... Artists can be very intelligent...

I always thought that people more intelligent than i am may teach me something...

You are certainly like me....

If you have sufficient savings and a balanced/sane financial approach, then there can be times where some see strife where others see opportunities, right?

Are you serious?

After me the deluge in a nutshell...

Who give a dam about Sri Lanka deaths ...

Buy a shelter and call that a solution...

😁😊

Yes and dont forget to look at the market in your nuclear shelter...

It will be a boom market after the BOOM for sure...

My point were about the useless harship worldwide imposed on us by the stupidity of North American leaders...

Savings dont help in societal collapsus and market has no meaning in a monetary collapse save for very very few people...

A documentary about american leaders stupidity:

I will suggest to you a movie, almost a documentary, even if it is fiction like, one of the best ever made by someone near Kubrick and Orson Welles, it is amazing because it was almost actuality just before nazism and it is actuality even now...Guess why? :

I'm not sure that baby formula is the government's responsibility. There are substitute food sources. Maybe not ideal but not a nuclear holocaust.

@mahgister

Now the west  is in a suicide mode, assisted  suicide for sure...

There is no conspiracy, only an orchestrated stupidity on a massive scale...

or not.

I guess I can come off as mildly amused at the over reactions I see on this forum. "times are hard" "the economy is tanking" ...yadayada. If you have sufficient savings and a balanced/sane financial approach, then there can be times where some see strife where others see opportunities, right?

If it was only infants in this country, it will be infants in Africa too and much more...I suppose they exist too ?

Anyone know what Sri Lanka is? No it is not a new cable for dac... 😁

Look the situation there.... You will know what await us because of our two leaders stupidity...And our desire to give up our freedom...

Insane politicians at the wheel... Trudeau here, Biden south...More insane voters...

In my entire life i have no idea people could be so stupid...

And guess what? Here some debate Trump versus Biden... Is it not the peak of stupidity?

Astonishing, i will die soon flabbergasted!

"cosmic cretinism" someone wiser say....

My own country Quebec died after a "No" to a referendum for his own free existence...A social suicide...

Now the west is in a suicide mode, assisted suicide for sure...

There is no conspiracy, only an orchestrated stupidity on a massive scale...

If anyone is really concerned about baby formula and what was used way back when, I read that all they ever used was evaporated milk, water and some sugar. The article went on to state that your baby will be just fine with it.

It's getting really sad and quite pathetic that there's always morons and muck rakers out there ready to pounce on the latest "crisis" and elevate it to hyperbolically hysterical levels. It wasn't that long ago when Mr. Potato Head was the cause celebre.

My status: Self made man retired with no boss for my entire life...

So..never married, I guess.

i am married....

Then i apologize...

But you are lucky in life ... When i was young one of my friend never go up more than assistant manager to a fast food chain... I guess i loved my friend too much...By the way i dont think he could progress much more...But the value of people has nothing to do with money and success and you know that also, then excuse me please for being too reactive...

My best to you...

I wasn’t making fun of Subway managers. I also wasn’t making fun of Subway assistant managers. I was making fun of someone who had risen to assistant manager status and not progressed for over four decades. I would never debate room acoustics with you (for a multitude of reasons), it wouldn’t be wise. I was making fun of the generic person on Audiogon who has no clue about a topic on which they opine. Some do so repeatedly. "All dacs sound the same" or "so and so caused inflation" or "so and so caused the supply chain disruptions".

I completely understand the need for formula and its considerable benefits to society and mankind. Obviously I failed to convey the sarcastic humor I intended. I guess, buried deep down in my sarcasm is that people should have a fallback plan. On everything that is important to them...we have a large pantry, we have no children but there is baby formula on the shelf....why, its a fallback plan for our guests. So, I guess you can say that I prepare for contingencies both professionally and personally. I dont build homes on the banks of a river that floods or on the coast prone to hurricanes. Thanks for your post as I was likely not communicating the seriousness I feel for the problem while trying to point out that when unfortunate happenings occur, I am not one of those looking to the government for a solution.

There are a lot of things being purposely done...it’s no coincidence. We all F’d under meat head....anyone that still has doubts is a complete A$$ and a moron.

Always with the constant projection. By the way, someone spotted TFG tooling around the Mar-A-Lardo grounds,
