The old ones with underlying health issues are always the first to go. Still, sounds like you have a good case for damages. I would join the class action. https://www.bermanlawgroup.com/practice-area/class-action/coronavirus-class-action
If this pandemic doesn't finally kill my cartridge, nothing will
I have an ancient Linn Arkiv B cartridge. I've known now for a few years that sooner or later, the thing will simply quit on me. I've probably listened to more vinyl in the last month than in the preceding year. If this doesn't finally do in my Arkiv B, it will last until the next millennia.

Can you, and do you trust re-tip on your's?
I am also thinking about the high use of my new SAS stylus in my Shure V15vxmr body. I am cleaning my old lps aggressively, listening to new dual arm turntable exclusively, AND, another issue: R2R tape player and CD gathering dust, grease turning to glue, .... Expected life of SAS tipped stylus ___________ hours?? New stylus for my MM body is under $200., and high output. Any low output MC, non-replaceable stylus, to me, is similar to buying a Jaguar XJS, picking in-line 6 cylinder, or V12. V6 for me, god I miss that automobile. btw, in-line 6 beat the V12 off the line and quite a way down the road, V12 only winning at highly illegal speeds. 6 fast enough? my son took me for a ride in mine, newly paved highway, the fastest ride of my life: 140mp and the suspension, those wide tires, brakes, and he felt there was more to go if the straight away was longer. Prior to that, fastest ride was a truly scary ride at 110mph in a GTO, on a hard dirt road no less. |
There are more masters. although coil repair has 2 types - loose wire or bad contact - new coil is needed as old one is truncated somewhere First case is not so difficult and it will be still original, second is more difficult with Miyabi as master has to copy winding technique so it might be not Miyabi at the very end. So don’t drop it to recycle bin. In the day then you’ll decide to throw it away make an offer for me :) |
I do not own the Hana ML but have heard someone compare it to the Miyabi Standard that I do own and am just hoping for the best. Enjoy the music not sure who it is, can't believe it Last Miyabi was made for 47 Labs (Sakura Systems) before Takeda-San retired (review is here), now only Fuuga made under impression of Miyabi. Not sure that Excel Sound hana can compete with Miyabi (any of them). |
bukanona, The question was not ''philosophical''. ''There are'' is existential assumption but you deed not mention any ''master'' at all but , instead, made some ''if then'' assumptions. Well Pegasus assume existence of flying horses. It make no sense to ascribe properties to not existing beings. What can tooblue do with your ''advice'' ? |
"Tooblue" is what it's worth to try to recover. Ok let's count on fingers who can repair loose ends: - Soundsmith - VAS cartridge repair now across pond Dmitri (can be found via vinylengine forum Delta667 ) Aidas - can be reached via GRGaudio here Darius - http://www.cartridgeretip.com/ And due COVID warning I can't be Pegasus anymore, donkey is more viable strategy these days I have personally used 2 last masters, both more than once. |
Miyabi is legendary hand made cartridge from Takeda. State of the art LOMC (imo). Hana is relatively cheap mass production cartridge from the company called Excel Sound in Japan. I have at least 3 different models from Excel Sound (OEM) and they are all completely different from Miyabi Standard and MCA which i own. Fuuga is $8000 cartridge inspired by Miyabi and made by a person who knew Takeda-San. |
