... WHAT POWER CORD(S) ARE PLAYING IN YOU SYSTEM TODAY?
HELLO TO ALL... Not really a discussion - more like a survey: prompted by a recent article about Power Cords that showed up in my browser. PLEASE NO DETAILS: NO IN-DEPTH REVIEWS OF ATTRIBUTES, WISH I HADs AGAIN, or WANT TO TRYs - just component (CD, PRE, DAC, INT, POWER, SPEAKER) and Mfg Brand, and model (if known) and length
mine: CD: GOLDMUND /JOB SWEET CORD; 2-1/2 METER INT: JOB INT: PS AUDIO XSTREAM SC STATEMENT, 1 METER
Amp / Cardas Golden Reference Cd player/Cardas Golden Reference Cd player power source / Acoustic Zen Krakatoa Pre amp / Acoustic Zen Krakatoa Phono amp / Acoustic Zen Krakatoa Tuner / Cardas Golden Reference
Verastarr Grand Illusion 8’ 20 amp from wall to amp. ” “ 5’ to source (CD/SACD) ” “ Silver Reference 4’ to pre. Two more self made and designed 9awg Carol wire with Furutech Rhodium ends for turntable and Phono pre. p.s. all male ends are rhodium
I use Straight Wire Black Thunder II on all components (SACD player, Krell integrated amp and power conditioner). Try as I might, I simply have not found anything thus far that sounds better, on both music and movies. Every other power cord I've tried (including Straight Wire's top Pro Thunder) brings strengths, but too often real weaknesses. But the Black Thunders continue to just sound so "right" in my system.
Now, there's a waste of money! At least spend money on low level wiring that's in the signal path. In my case, it's Home Depot bulk cable with self soldered connectors from Digikey.
This thread is timely. I just replaced one of my PS audio cords with one from Dave C at Zen Wave. Dave’s PL11 with the Furutech NCF plugs is a cord that I can highly recommend. Compared to my old PS audio, or the various Synergistic pc’s or Cardas pc’s I have had in the system, the Zen Wave is far more extended at both ends of the frequency spectrum....and a ton more resolving.
Reporting back as I stated I would... The Cerious GE power cord now has about 125 hours on it. This is a very smooth & dynamic pc. From top to bottom better definition, more air between musicians, & a deeper stage. I'll be adding more in the future. May even try their Matrix power cord, as yoby states it's even better.
hifihandyman , you list StraightWire Thunder. Straight Wire has 3 different "thunder" power cords: the Pro Thunder, the Black Thunder II and the Blue Thunder. Which are you using?
Hi boxer12: I've been a fan of Cerious Technology cables for while now. As good as the Graphene Extreme line is (especially for the price), the Matrix line is in another league altogether. Audition a Matrix PC sometime from Bob. I think you'll be quite impressed.
Prof, I'm sure it does. You have good taste in electronics. I do suspect though that you would like the difference a Cerious power cord would give you. They are pretty inexpensive at $300 & he has a money back return policy.
So I just replaced one of my Oyaide Tunami PC with a Cerious
Graphene Extreme PC. Replaced the PC going to the dedicated transformer that everything goes through except the power amp. Only been on for a day so it's not broke in yet. This is a really smooth PC. Like what it's doing with the vocals. Will report back in a few days...
Red Wave on the Parasound JC-5 and PS Audio Power Plant. Power Plus on everything else.
But based on the SQ I'm getting from the amp, I will probably replace the Power Plus cables with Red Wave over the next few months since they are all short cables. Red Wave bulk is currently on sale for $32/ft.
Power cords and interconnects have the biggest impact, a real effect on the punch, compression, imaging. They have different degrees in term of enveloppment feel. Nordost, for digital, are fabulous. Valhalla v1 is very airy, detailed but very natural connected to a streamer or a DAC. For high current, bigger power cords like Dr. Accoustics Redfire Ultra are more balanced, bottom to the top end. AQ high current (eg. Tornado) and Furutech Lineflux are better for conditioners (not a natural timber directly connected IMO).
Mikey881, The AQ Hurricane is the high current version so I have not tried it on my DAC yet, but will. Right now it is on my VTL 7.5iii preamp and is both detailed and full-bodied, audibly more so than former LessLoss Reference. I will try the Hurricane on DAC and swap it with Cardas Clear Beyond XL, which I think is an exceptional cord. Will report back. Cheers. Neal
@nglazer how does the Clear Beyond XL (or even Clear Beyond) compare to the Hurricane? I am using Clear Beyond now and a Direcstream DAC too but would like a fuller and warmer presentation. Thanks
IF YOU DON'T HEAR ANY DIFF IN SWAPPING: forget room acoustics, new equipment, power cords and cables, and isolation products - time to set an appointment with an audiologist...
Core Power Equi=Core 150 (2) LessLoss Reference (2) Dynamic Design Spirit II Aether Audio w/ Smith cell (2--soon to be 4) WyWires Juice II--may go soon 1 captive to unit cord
Oyaide Tunami everywhere except: Preamp / Synergistic Research Transport / Furutech FPso22n
I have a new Cerious Technologies on the way. I'm going to try that in 2 places (to the power amp & also to the exactpower transformer) to see where it sounds best.
