MC-MM-MI CARTRIDGES . DO YOU KNOW WHICH HAS BETTER QUALITY PERFORMANCE? REALLY?
@rauliruegas   Raul, I no longer own the Benz.To answer your question as to why I prefer LOMC’s, it is one word…resolution. I find in my system that the better MC’s resolve more detail than any of the MM’s I have owned. Same goes for the MI’s. I h...
MC-MM-MI CARTRIDGES . DO YOU KNOW WHICH HAS BETTER QUALITY PERFORMANCE? REALLY?
There are so many variables here. But IMO, generally the SQ of a good LOMC is the preferred sound. If one is into RAP and head banging music, on the kind of system one sees at a club, then perhaps a higher tracking force MM would be preferable. To...
Best amplifier for Acoustat 2+2 electrostats for holographic sound, or change speakers?
Having owned Acoustat model 3M's, I can tell you that they are limited to the imaging that you describe, it is only once you change speakers that imaging specificity and IME, a host of other benefits, can be had. YMMV.
Borresen Loudspeakers
@audiocanada   I am under the impression that the X series Borresen's are designed in Denmark, but are also made in China.
Records not stored vertically for decades
The issue with storing records flat has already been brought up. Primarily, the increased potential for warpage and sleeve damage. This will depend to some extent on whether the record in question is a box set or not, generally a box set is more d...
AXPONA 2024
@mikelavigne Mike makes a great point. That point is that no gear on the planet can overcome a lousy room, plain and simple. Makes no difference how much money is thrown at the gear, if the room is lousy from an acoustic perspective, then the bes...
How important is the efficiency of a speaker to you?
@lonemountain Brad, you make an interesting point. While most folk would consider your example as efficient, the other variable, which could effect how an amp interacts with this speaker is how the load the speaker presents varies across it’s fre...
How important is the efficiency of a speaker to you?
@lonemountain Brad, I think one of my points is that the free choice of speakers and amplifiers are connected. IOW, a highly inefficient speaker is going to severely limit your amp choice, and conversely a very low powered amp ( or an amp with mi...
How Is This Possible? Must be Counterfeits
You know what they say..'if it's too good to be true'!
What the Best Dac have you heard or owned. How could you tell it was that good.
@calvinj   I did notice that the upstream gear has a lot to do with the ultimate SQ. In my case, I use a Esoteric SACD player as a stand alone transport. If the server or transport is not that synergistic with the DAC, this can have an impact on t...
What the Best Dac have you heard or owned. How could you tell it was that good.
@calvinj   I have heard the Esoteric N01XD, but not in my system. I was also very impressed by it. I am a BIG fan of Esoteric gear.
What the Best Dac have you heard or owned. How could you tell it was that good.
The best DAC i have owned is the one I am currently using, the Esoteric D-05. I auditioned several DAC's last year to come to a decision. Among them was the Benchmark, the Bryston BDA3, my old EAD 3000Mk3, a Sim Audio ( don't remember the number),...
How important is the efficiency of a speaker to you?
@kennyc The only thing that I think also needs to be added, or considered, when one goes and just buys a speaker that is requiring a monster amp upstream, is this…. That particular amp will most likely ( I can think of maybe one tube amp that migh...
How important is the efficiency of a speaker to you?
@invalid   You bring up a great point. The signal to noise ratio is a factor with most gear. Tube gear is likely to be noisier than ss gear. The question is how important is the tube noise through the more efficient speaker to the listener. I'm no...
How important is the efficiency of a speaker to you?
Gents, I think we can summon up the above posts with this: It is extremely important to acquire a speaker that has a good synergy with the amp that powers it.
