jafant,Checking out. Hit my 97th last month, and I'm happy, very happy, with my Thiel 2.7s,Thiel sub and Bryston  electronics.  No reason to contemplate modifications,, upgrades, etc. Learned a lot from tomthiel and prof. Cheers,  George, The Old Fud

Maybe it's just my ears, but I haven't heard the harshness described in my 2.7sPoor recordings can emphasize sound in that region. YMMV

jafant, I've been pseudo-quarantined since last June, only foraying out to go for medical appointments. With only one good eye, there's no depth perception, and a serious fall last year destroyed the vestibular balance.  No depth perception plus no...
Break in time that extends to months or maybe even years!!
Present configuration consists of SS electronics from one manufacturer, left on 24/7/365. Believe leaving on SS does make a difference. Took the preamp longer to break in (circa 400 hours). All I have to do is slip in a CD and turn up the volume. N...

@vair68roberttI'm still waiting to hear from Rob G on why my or all 2.7s have this wiring instead of the straight wire that was standard in all other ThielsEarlier, in a discussion about 2.7s in another web page, Jim Thiel was reported to have sai...
Are all red book cd transports created equal?
If you have a decent DAC, the Cambridge transport (circa $350-400) is an excellent choice.  I use one, plus a Bryston BDA-2 in the secondary system.  If  you want superb Redbook playback, the Bryston BCD-3 is a superb player spinner, although a bi...

Once again, I gotta' agree with prof.I've been in a pseudo self-quarantine since June (no depth perception and zero vestibular balance)'My 27s, plus sub, are a superb way t0 cope with the isolation.

Vivaldi, played badly, is the worst classical music on earth
As a bit of levity: Both my wife and I are classical music nuts. I really appreciate Mozart, but my wife cannot stand him: "He wrote elevator music before we had elevators!" Both of appreciate the myriad scores written by the Red Priest.
Why Does CD Sound So Good?
IMO, Depends on the quality of the DAC in the spinner.

Why Does CD Sound So Good?
larryi,I have my 1100 CDs shelved in special four-sided racks that spin around. I have them cataloged  by composer. It's simple to turn the racks and choose. I also keep a small 20-CD holder on top of the cabinet holding the BCD-3 BP 17 cubed and ...
Why Does CD Sound So Good?
magister,Walcha sends me emotionally, as he has figured out how a blind man can play the organ.I saw a video several years ago showing how Walcha first listened to the diapason line, then built on it. Of course, assistants had to set the  stops fo...
Why Does CD Sound So Good?
mahgister,I'm fond of Bach's organ works, and have been comparing Marie Claire Alain's complete set against Helmut Walcha's. Cheers
