As we are in the modern age of music I thought I would see how this fares. We have threads specific for cdp and tt so why not streaming as it is a modern media. I don't care if you stream Tidal, Deezer, Spotify, Paradise Radio or any number of internet stations. I would like you to share your tastes and method of streaming.
I just cannot get into anything classical or symphonic I am afraid. Understand there is some really talented players of instruments but just does not move me.
uberwaltz, I'm not deep into classical music and don't know lots about it. I tend to favor less classical/baroque and more romantic era stuff (less Bach, Mozart, Hayden....more Beethoven, Brahms and on into Dvorak and Mahler.)
I also pretty much stick to the symphonic works of these composers and don't know much about concertos and music for specific instruments.
Having said that, I look at the various symphonies in one or two different ways. One is to listen to them like a movie score. The second, and maybe better approach, is to listen to them the way you'd listen to prog rock. Think Rush of Floyd. Albums like 2112 or Wish You Were Here are just modern pop symphonies.
And make no mistake, a good rousing symphony like Beethoven's 9th or Dvorak's 9th will exercise your speakers and your walls/windows.
@n80. I remember when most of the big rock acts felt they had to do a concept album, even Kiss got in the act with The Elder. Never thought of them as pop symphony though, guess it is just perspective..
I think it is as much a vibe or groove type of thing that mostly keeps me steered towards rock. I am a creature of habit and do not like or welcome change of any description. Old ornery crabby geezer about fits the bill..... And about as far removed from a symphony as you can get.....
Ah yeah @uberwaltz, The Flamin’ Groovies---one of my all-time fave bands! Their Shake Some Action album is my favorite of theirs, produced by Dave Edmunds. I shared the stage with them in ’82, and we hung out for a few hours. Cyril and I talked about music and musicians, and he asked for my phone number (he was living in SF, I in L.A.). That number was soon thereafter disconnected, so I didn’t find out what he wanted to talk about. Until, that is, I heard that drummer David Wright was leaving the group. Damn it! As they say, timing is everything (no drumming pun intended ;-) .
YES, Fragile, Peter Gabriel So - via Qobuz / Roon Oppo 203. Just killed my Tidal acct and went with Qobuz due to MQA limitation of Oppo 203. Happy with it so far. Similar content available between both so far.
@uberwaltz and n80..... me also.....i spun it a few times on reciept.....also did you notice the massive SQ difference between sides.....i will let you decide which one has zip air and treble.....
guess i wait to catch them live in May, they have never never disappointed there.......
Still listening to the new Tom Petty collection. Great selection of songs, excellent sound quality. Also more than a few intense emotions listening to his great songwriting and performing and recognizing what a great talent we lost, as well as the tremendous loss to his friends and family.
nice find there N80, I like the sound so far although not much time for a full attention filling session as stuck in hotel in Chicago this week and stuff never sounds just the same through a crummy laptop speaker set! On with more Rush though. Roll The Bones!
I like to go out to Mississippi and travel up and down highway 61 (New Orleans to Memphis) for blues and food. Natchez is an interesting little town right there on the river. Depressed like most of small town Mississippi but nice views of the river from the high bluff the town sits on. I recognized a lot of the scenery in the documentary.
+1 n80.....Uber you love music so much get some decent ’phones or earbuds! Or a little Bluetooth speaker of some sort. Currently streaming: Herbie Mann & The Bill Evans Trio............Nirvana
Jon I have some very decent travel buds but tbh i am usually busy writing reports etc at night so tend to just have the laptop on as much playing background music. I have thought about a Bluetooth speaker but decided just more junk to haul around with me!
Don't like it anywhere near as much as his first album - Coming Home. This one is less retro sounding but it is also less soulful and a little more pop sounding to me. A little hip-hop. A little cruder too content wise. He does not seem to use his vocals to maximum effect either. It is a shame because the first album is fantastic!
