What are you streaming tonight?

As we are in the modern age of music I thought I would see how this fares.
We have threads specific for cdp and tt so why not streaming as it is a modern media.
I don't care if you stream Tidal, Deezer, Spotify, Paradise Radio or any number of internet stations.
I would like you to share your tastes and method of streaming.

Blind Ego - Liquid (studio version) on Tidal.

Things seem promising with Blind Ego, uber.  Sonics from the studio version of Liquid are spectacular.  A little less certain whether the music on it will support repeated listening but will revisit and also try the other releases.  Call call.
Gillian Welch (w/Dave Rawlings) - The Harrow & The Harvest.

Superb song-writing and performances.  Dave Rawlings is a criminally under-celebrated guitarist and arranger.

@slaw
You were right about it.  I know, only been out for 9 years but the planets have to align or something....Anyway, thanks for mentioning it some time back on the eternal What's On Your Turntable Tonight thread.  Did just now purchase it (alas, CD for this recidivist).

"Call call"
Oops...

Sometimes the fingers don't type what the brain is thinking.

Make that "Good call" re Blind Ego, uberwaltz.
I'm on it, u.

Just finished Blind Ego Liquid (liked it more than the on the first go-round) and now playing RPWL "The Gentle Art of Music".  Just started but agree it's not a Floyd sound at all...ALTHOUGH!  just got to a stretch of lyric in the first track that definitely seemed Floyd/DSotM influenced; echoes of the closer, Eclipse, "All that you touch and all that you see....".
Thanks for the comments, u. I am new to IQ and not exactly smitten (yet?) but willing to invest more time. Came across them only recently, probably by way of a "similar albums" listing on the AllMusic Guide. I’ll be certain to check out Nomzamo and Road of Bones.
IQ - Subterranea
Music with a big debt to Genesis but not quite as inspired...or so I think right now. Only part way through this one. SQ is very very good.  Vocalist has an excellent voice. Overall style is kinda like Genesis runs into Rush on Broadway.

Van Morrison - Three Chords & The Truth

@dougsat
I think you are right about Three Chords....seems like it's gonna bear up to repeated listening.

Van KNOWS how to pick a backing band. Great arrangements (as per usual with him). Excellent sonics too.

Should have added "Back On Top" to my previous Minority Report comments about his albums that get listened to frequently.
How does that work, u? Why does running tape at high speed make a difference??

I’m guessing less "information" per cm^2 of tape is a good thing???
Ralph Towner - Travel Guide
(Guitar trio w/Wolfgang Muthspiel & Kazhak Slava Grigoryan; their debut for ECM as per Tidal)

Yellowjackets - Run For Your Life (1994)

First track, Jacket Town, with some excellent bass work by Jimmy Haslip.

Takes repeated listens for things to sink in. These first 2 Eastern Rebellion albums are starting to click...some tracks more than others.

It’s interesting to compare tenor sax players on the two albums. I’d post to jazz aficionados for input from Frogman and others but they seem to be involved in a debate about essential elements of Latin music. Don’t want to interrupt.

Eastern Rebellion vol 1; 5/4 Thing (track 3)
George Coleman - Tenor Sax

Eastern Rebellion vol 2; Clockwise (track 5)
Bob Berg - Tenor Sax (solo starts at 2:07)

@frogman
Thank you very much.  What you wrote makes a lot of sense to my ear!
I could hear the differences you described but lacked vocabulary (and technical training) to "verbalize" them.  Was tempted to describe Coleman (love his "5/4 Thing") as the more "refined" player but not sure that does justice to Berg as "Coltrane tsunami surfer".  I also did not even consider the difference in their ages/"eras".  Anyway, thanks again for taking time to comment and for posting the solo links.  Ciao.
Using an Auralic Aries Mini into a Schiit Gungnir MB to listen to ripped CDs as well as music from Tidal, Spotify and internet radio (like Radio Paradise that reubent has posted about). Spotify’s Browse/Discover function has been a great way to discover new music.

Last night listened to William Orbit’s "Hinterland" on Tidal. Number 4 in his Strange Cargo series.

A point of clarification. The Minority Report isn’t strictly CD only, though at the time it was started (2012) CD was the prevailing "digital" medium (the biggest part of the "non-vinyl half") - hence "What’s in your CDP tonight?" Over the intervening 5 years, my CDP has gotten less and less use. Most of what I’m posting there is from Tidal or Spotify along with CDs ripped to hard drive. It’s rare to be actually spinning a disc these days though I still prefer to buy when I find a "keeper" on one of the services. Amazing how quickly things change.
Haha...the TEAC (Distinction series) I don't use (much) could be considered a poor cousin to your Esoteric.   Likewise, to your Pioneer, I have a Denon 2910 I recently re-discovered.  Nice, pre-blueray, universal  player.
John Lemke's "Nomad Frequencies" by way of Spotify (Tidal was having buffering issues earlier this evening).

For the curious, the whole album on YouTube:

uberwaltz -
I agree wholeheartedly about that S/T/ Boston debut.  What a great record.  It was good then; 42 years later, it's still good.

(Time flies)
uberwaltz
A quick comment about Dire Straits’ Communique. I remember that one taking some time to appreciate vs what seemed at the time the much stronger S/T debut. However, over the years, Communique gets played more often and in particular the last two tracks: Single-Handed Sailor and Follow Me Home...great music, great sonics. IMO, everything you need to know about DS in 10 and half minutes.

FWIW - re Supertramp, there were weeks after it first came out that Even in the Quietest Moments was getting played every night and often more than once.
Early evening in steamy Central PA...

Found the new/old, formerly lost Coltrane on Tidal (Both Directions At Once). Worth noting there is a 24 bit Deluxe Version available (as well as 16 bit).
@uberwaltz -
Thanks for the cooler weather wish.  Should break by the weekend.  On the other hand, it is July now.  How about yourself?  Recovery going according to plan?  Hopefully you've been released or will be shortly.  Be well.

Another one:  Yellowjackets - A Rise In The Road (Jaco Pastorius' kid on bass)

Track 8, An Amber Shade of Blue

U - worst case, you can find Consequences on YouTube, though it might be split up.  It's long and a bit of a time commitment but very entertaining.  Think of it as a musical-based radio play.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consequences_(Godley_%26_Creme_album)
Ah...10cc's "Deceptive Bends".  Good album, Uberwaltz.  Agree with you about Feel The Benefit.  That's the main reason I own the recording (actually have it on old vinyl).  I was surprised reading the Wikipedia entry to see credits for composition do not include Godley or Creme for any of the tracks.  I had always sort of believed those two WERE 10cc (much like Becker & Fagen were Steely Dan).  Shows how much I know.

If you do get a hankering for some Godley & Creme, check out their multi-disc opus, Consequences.
PS - F9
Things always taste better with a little reverb,

i.e., The Universe Smiles Upon You.

I like it.

Thanks again
@foster_9
Found two albums by a Texas trio named Khruangbin (Thai for "airplane" according to the intro on Tidal). Is this what you mean? The 2 are Con Todo el Mundo (so far, instrumental with occasional vocal effects) and The Universe Smiles Upon You. Haven’t started listening to this one.

Listening to el Mundo's Track 2 Lady and the Man. It’s got a bit of a Talking Heads/David Byrne thing going, esp. the lyrics. Track 3, maria Tambien is minimalist and funky. VERY good sonics.

Thanks for some NEW music.
Frank Zappa - Waka Jawaka (Big Swifty & WJ, exclusively) courtesy of Tidal>>Aries Mini>>Schiit Gungnir MB
This early evening: "Blues for Tony" (Alan Pasqua, Allan Holdsworth, Jimmy Haslip, Chad Wackerman*) courtesy of Tidal.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NrL2vGDp3Ac

*Got to love a drummer named, "Wackerman"
Hey there U-man.  Don't know either of those JB recordings.  Looking in Tidal.  Is the Carnegie Hall "subtitled" An Acoustic Evening?

Will have to try them out.  I'm impressed with the SQ of most of his stuff, in particular A New Day Yesterday (Live).
Don't do it, U !

You don't have to post every hour or even every day.  Save it for something extraordinary you've listened to.  I'm heartened by your  "obsessive listening" (there're are others out there!) even if tastes are not always identical.  Same goes for Slaw posting on What's Playing On Your Turntable Today? or Nutty's What's Playing On Your System Today.
I do sometimes get ideas for my own listening from your content and theirs.

I listen to Tidal regularly but usually just post about it, when the spirit moves, over on the What's In Your CDP Tonight? thread.  That was always intended as a digital listening thread alternative to the turntable thread that Slaw has adopted.  No problem with redundancy and overlap, however.  My main goal for listing a recording is to give it a little more exposure and maybe maybe maybe turn someone else on to something they've not heard before.  A noble cause or maybe just a manifestation of mania.

Either way, having said all that...try this:

The Bad Plus - These Are the Vistas

Track 3, Smells Like Teen Spirit
There are covers and then there are COVERS.  Plus the sonics on this whole recording are pretty good.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZ6Xo1mYSJg&frags=pl%2Cwn

Once more from Tidal...

Summer McKane's "Night Blooming Cereus"

GREAT sonics.  The music is a bit inconsistent.  Some of it "nice" but boring.  Other bits are a lot more engaging.
Hello uberwaltz -
Hah...I can sympathize.  Did my share of time in Ship Channel refineries and chem plants wearing Nomex and the rest of the safety gear.  Nothing like being next to an operating reactor in July afternoon heat down there.  Well, maybe crawling through a boiler that just got taken out of service but, fortunately, I didn't work that side of the house.

Just got done listening again (Tidal) to Steps Ahead their self-titled first US release.

Stay hydrated!
On Tidal, Goldfrapp - Felt Mountain

A 2000 debut but new to me.
Quoting the write up accompanying the album on Tidal: "A strange and beautiful mix of the romantic, eerie, and world-weary....".

Track 8, Utopia
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUB7e3BtnvU
Hi Uber.  Those 6 deletions, my doing.  Sorry 'bout that.  When I was trying to enter that Goldfrapp recording, I kept getting an error message that it hadn't posted.  Being foolishly persistent, I persevered only to discover, despite the error message (I forget the numerical code that accompanied it) ALL my attempts had been successful.  Half a dozen listings about the same album did look kind of ridiculous so I went in and deleted them leaving only one.

Did you try the Felt Mountain at all?  Quirky and interesting with great sonics.  Good for late night.
Howdy U...glad you tried Felt Mountain.  I only listened once but plan to revisit it.  Try it on your main system when home.  The sonics are well worth it.  Yup...know what you mean about falling asleep and aging.  Seems I can't make it through an afternoon session these days without an involuntary "nap".
Systems Officer (aka Armistead Burwell Smith IV of Pinback fame) - Underslept.  Thanks to Pokey77 for this one.

Steve Stevens - Memory Crash
Thanks to Nutty for that one.

Herbie Hancock - Empyrean Isles

HH’s 4th album as leader (so I read). Striking how fresh and very contemporary this 1964 recording sounds. Quite the lineup too with Freddie Hubbard, Ron Carter & Tony Williams. The Egg (track 4) at 14 minutes is not your grand-daddy’s overplayed, classic jazz standard.

HH - Takin’ Off
Going back in time a couple of years to 1962 and HH’s debut album as group leader.
Chambers, MacAlpine, Brunel aka CAB -
Theatre de Marionnettes

Could not find this on Tidal or Spotify but the whole thing is on You Tube
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZdaR62QZ7dI&list=PL94gOvpr5yt194MQKebN-PL4RyT1m3Sp3

Sound quality is surprisingly good using Air Play on a MacBook to get it over to the Aries Mini and the main system.
