TEKTON IMPACT MONITORS

I ove this speakers , on my set up they sound really very dynamic and easy to listen. Is there anyway to replace their tweeters to improve them? I do love the design of the impact. Thanks

If you send one speaker to Danny Richie at GR Research, he will thoroughly evaluate it's performance (frequency response, spectral decay---aka waterfall plot, enclosure resonances, x/o parts quality, etc. If he thinks a redesign of the crossover will improve the loudspeaker's performance, he will design one. All for free!

He sells a product he designed and has manufacture called NoRez. It is applied to the inside of the enclosure walls, to reduce or eliminate resonance if the enclosure requires it. I haven't seen the bracing on the inside of any Tekton, but word is they are rather lightly-braced, the speaker therefore perhaps suffering from audible resonances.

Danny will also sell you all the parts needed to build the x/o he designs for a given loudspeaker, and will lead through assembling it. Or you can have a local technician build it for you. He sometimes finds the x/o design of a speaker satisfactory, but the parts quality poor. He carries a number of audiophile-approved lines of caps, resistors, coils, wire, etc.

"Rent free"

Is that what you say when you have no response?

Very convenient.
He might mean tbat's what he is doing when he get's into one's head.
Just say'in.
in all seriousness, in all these years in this hobby i have never ever considered randomly replacing/upgrading a driver on what i believed to be an expensive, well designed, good sounding set of loudspeakers...

to me, what we are paying for, above all else, in a really good speaker, is the maker’s exacting, knowledgeable integration and fine tuning of the various piece parts that in their entirety comprise the loudspeaker that was produced for us to enjoy
Even if that is true, what kind of person brags about getting in people’s heads?

He is an arrogant bully that some people tolerate. Kind of like a certain former President.
When you change drivers even tweeters from the same supplier you have to redesign the crossover. It's not just a drop in(or multiplr drop ins in this case).

There is a fine line, for example I think what Dave Wilson got out of the B-139 greatly exceeds the KEF efforts. He was much more than a tweaker tho.

Look it’s ( the subject Tekton )a price point speaker like  most. Fixing cabinet issues should be job one.
How can Miller praise Porsches to the heavens (quite reasonable - Lambos and Ferraris just fall apart and cost $$$$$$ to run) and also think Moabs are the greatest speakers?  Moabs are like kit cars - way below even Lambo and Ferrari.  Quite right he's been got at.

Jerry Iam enjoying my thread , and thanking everyone who participated, it’s more fun in Audiogon right? Some did have bad experience with Erik , I could tell on their previous post , I respect that, Some like MC adds some fire flavor to his post , and others take it seriously, this is where the comedy occur 😀..Some give honest recommendations like Sbayne and TVad , this are experience serious audiophile, and very nice guy too. Some just hates Tekton they trash them like crazy , I respect that too.. I think I will replaced the tweeters with the original one.I agree the Moab are bargain for what they do according to a trusted reviewer Teajay. Known as Terry London.

For the meantime I will use my Tekton ps 12 , while the impact are out for repair.

Can you order (and install) stock replacment tweeters?

Per a SP review the center tweeter is operated "differently" as a super tweeter.

I would ask the designer about the center tweeter.

@carlsbad

Remember, Arby's brought out a 1/3 lb burger and it failed because many people thought it was smaller than a quarterpounder....these are sometimes the people you argue with on the internet.

love it... 🤣🤣🤣

never underestimate the stupidity of a stranger...
Carl it’s better to just see it the way it is, honestly my wife always have fun reading post here, so yes we both enjoy it. Dekay I open the center it has a capacitor attach to it. The other tweeters it’s just wire connected.
OK:

If it a simple cap (center tweeter) then the higher the MF rating the lower the crossover point (per my basic understanding of such having "capped" a few tweeters to some of my single/wide range drivers).

I simply used "distance" to balance the tweeters SPL's which you most likely could not do.

Also per the SP review the "6" dome tweeters were noted to be active @ 1K HZ, which is exceedingly low - though I assume that the center tweeter activates @ a much higher frequency.

Anyway, unusual design and my only negative feelings about Tekton speakers predominately originate from MC's rants about them.

Never heard them and have ZERO desire to do so (same with the Raven gear).

Over these last several years of very active and polarized threads concerning Tekton speakers, I can only think that Eric has been delighted with his product constantly being put front and center in the minds of so many potential customers. I'm sure that all of the opinions on both sides create curiosity in many to hear what it's all about for themselves.
You Gonners are once again being duped by this Jacko who is truly have his way with you all. I enjoy reading these occasional con jobs. This one
is pretty creative.
Is the double entendre intended in a Double Impact speaker?

Tektons are not for everyone, if you don’t like them buy other speakers, is that simple...But you are welcome to post here about them especially, if you have heard them like it or not, This a FYI forum right?
So true..the other post where the owner of Tekton was threatening and trying to intimidate members was removed.

I miss the days when I could go to a good hifi shop and spend an hour or two discerning between a couple speaker options before I throw down my hard earned scratch.   Sigh...
I should say, too, I don’t begrudge the mods/forum caretaker their very thankless endeavors. It’s just frustrating to see exchanges that prospective purchasers might find incredibly informative - the ‘I’ in FYI - find their way to the cutting room floor.
Perhaps there are reasons of which I’m not aware.
At any rate, sorry to sidetrack here and genuine thanks to contributing posters and mods alike.

Erik can report any post or thread Audiogon makes the decision not Him. So that’s fair.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

No body is being deceived, or duped or anything else.  The owner of Tekton has his own way of building speakers, plane and simple. It is not conventional, that's for sure, but WHO said any speaker has to be built a certain way, another speaker manufacture?

Good lord look at Ohm Walsh (A,F ?), or RTA Polk who would have thought they would sound good, they had their day. There were tons of different speaker designs.

Guess what AND a lot more to come..

A "I fix other people's speaker guy", ANYONE can change something and say it's better. It always amazes me 10,000 pairs were sold before this great discovery to correct it all, but there never was a complaint of any problems to begin with.. LOL Lets measure and see if something is wrong.. I don't think so..

It's one thing to hear an anomaly, or an actual problem, it's something else to actively, measure and say something is wrong.. WHO measured what WHERE? and how was it measured.. In the ol shop.. LOL, the worst place to measure..

I'm no Gonner and Jacko died..

No I do not own or do I want to own Tekton, BUT there are 20 pairs of speakers here at any given time.. 1/2 are DIY. If I had the room I might..

Regards
@jayctoy  Good to hear that you working on your Tekton Impact monitors. Bon, how are things with your other systems / changes?

Understood and 100% agreed.
Erik can report any post or thread Audiogon makes the decision not Him. So that’s fair.
Agreed with the first sentence (though I’m not among those who consider Eric a deity ;)  )

I’m not sure fair is the word I’d use, but it’s a privately run Internet forum - doesn’t have to be fair.
David thank you for posting on this thread , As you know since you visited me , I did add SMe 10 turntable, with icon ps3 phono preamp? This year on my second system , I added vpi superscout tt and Sutherland 2020 phono preamp. On digital I bought MarAntz Sa 10 sacd players, Now Iam mixing tellurium Cables and Nordost Cables And teo Cables a bit Audioquest ic, And KLH 9 Speakers added. My ps 12 are on vacation, you know what happen to my impact, otherwise over all , for my taste Iam bless to really like the music coming out from both systems.Iam now waiting for a use Valhalla 1 used to show up on Agon or Tmr Audio. So far so good.
"Erik can report any post or thread Audiogon makes the decision not Him. So that’s fair".....one would think but the way i read it was an owner of a speaker company jumped into an open discussion on this forum, threatened members and tried to use intimidation to stop the duscussion...more than once...It wasnt till it was obvious it was going very bad for the owner of this company that site moderators jumped in and deleted the entire post....he was asked by me and others several times about their testing and said owner avoided responding but continue to try to throw his weight around....so your correct he had the right to submit a report...but in my opinion it showed me exactly what i already suspected...
I'm trying to understand how you could blow up so many tweeters!  How did it happen?  Any other users have similar experiences?

i agree with this... it is unfortunate, there was much useful information about tekton speakers in that post, of course intermingled amongst humor and other stuff, not the least of which were posts from the brand owner himself, who revealed his stripes and demeanor to a good degree, all informative to those who may be interested in his brand

there have been many many threads that have been removed over time, when i have searched for useful info on a brand/product that comes up on a broader search (search yields a thread, click it, says thread was removed), so the mods removing threads is hardly a new thing, been going on for a long long time, as one would expect

as to why, who knows... it is their forum, they have the right to do as they see fit, they act in their interest at the end of the day, hard to fault, this is not a public utility... we are here at their pleasure

other boards can 'lock' threads so that folks can still see the past exchange, but cannot poster any more comments, that would have been useful here
Onhwy61, this Speakers impact monitors can only handle 125 w I think. Iam using 150w mono blocks with Krell preamp , And Marantz sa10, this set up powered my Andra no sweat. My suspicions the tweeters blow up when Iam playing sacd suite espagnola by Fruhbeck de Burgos, playing Asturias , I push the volume a bit more, I underestimated the power of my Tsakadiris monos and overestimated the impact cabality.
Missioncoonery , Iam with you , no threatening needs to remove the post , just report it.Audiogon is very clear on this.
No need to defend MC or EA, they seem to be very good at it on their own. For better or worse.

The way it was explained to me is that any amp can be pushed to clip, or into distortion. No matter how powerful the amp, or the capacity the speakers. Many variables to the music, current coming from the amps and a drivers resistance interact. My boss once demonstrated to me. Using an unboxed driver with an oscilloscope in the mix he showed me how when you push an amp to clip or distort the normally smooth up and down wave of whatever frequency is coming through turns to square wave. Essentially the voice coil goes from a up and down piston movement to a side to side or round and round. in turn the voice coil of the driver begins hitting the sides of the magnet structure and will short and sever the VC. He made a good living repairing drivers of all kinds, Foam surrounds that rotted, ripped cones, blown voice coils etc... Massive pro drivers from EV, Renkis Heins, JBL etc.. As well as for home audio.
For me, and again this is for me, (as I don't care to get any scalding from folks), i live by nothing above 12 o:clock on my volume.
For what its worth.
Cheers
It wasn't till it was obvious it was going very bad for the owner of this company that site moderators jumped in and deleted the entire post.

For sure.  In a panic the Bat Signal was activated, nukes were deployed, and the thread was vaporized.  Mission accomplished?
