I can agree with the positives. I have a complete Legacy system. Focus SE’s, Marquee Center, Phantom Sides, Deco Rears and 4 Foundation Subwoofers. Amps are Legacy IV:2 to power the Focus’s and a Legacy IV:5 to power all the Surrounds/Center. I came from Ascend Acoustics and before that M&K’s. This system is my last, as I won’t be searching for that dream system any longer. I found it.....
On a side note, one of the Foundations was damaged in shipping. Bill Dudleson happened to be doing a seminar in NY at the time. The interstate from NY to Springfield Ill. runs right through the middle of our town so Bill and an associate stopped by the house, looked over the damage. Bill got out his repair kit (in his youth he was a master cabinet maker), and preceded to work on the damaged area for a good hour. Not happy with the final results they loaded it up and took the damaged piece back to the shop. Before leaving they sit and listed to my system and set up all the "adjustments". Took several pics and Sue said "you would have thought the President was here". Ha Ha Ha. Yea, I was a little star struck, but it's a day I'll never forget.
Legacy Audio Focus SE and rivals
I am Interested at Legacy Audio Focus SE - their natural look Is exceptional, they are very efficient, got 2 x 12 Inch woofers which cut off low end at 18 Hz at - 2 dB , curious about HF end where cut off Is 30 kHz
I would like to ask you - are they neutral sound speaker, are they sensitive to closer to wall placing
are there any better alternative at that price
I recently purchased a pair of Focus SE. I auditioned the Signature and SE and although the Signature is a terrific speaker, I thought the additional mid range driver in the Focus SE brought a little more to the table. I was concerned with speaker height but after getting them home and letting them settle in, the height is not an issue, they have a small footprint and they integrate well into my living room. I'm powering my Focus SE with a McIntosh C2600 tube preamp and a McIntosh MC 462 solid state amp. I would agree with the comments previously that these speakers will sound great with almost any amp. I have 40 wpc tube monoblocks and also 90 wpc Class A tube monoblocks which I will also try. These are terrific speakers and I find them to be relatively neutral, nice detail, great bass and non-fatiguing. I listen to a variety of music and they play it all well. My room is 20'-6" L x 13'-6" W with a 8' - 11' vaulted ceiling. I sit about 10' from the face of the speakers. My speakers are 8'-2" on center along the long wall and the back of the speaker is 18" from the wall behind them. They are slightly toed in. They do take a little while to break in and I prefer them bi-wired. If you have a much smaller room, you might consider the Signatures due to potential bass overload from the Focus SE dual woofers |
I’m looking at either the Signature SE or Focus SE. I have a decent size room: 18’ x 24’ x 9’ and I sit about 10 feet back (dining room is behind me and opens to the kitchen as well), the tweeters will be about 8 feet between them. Back of speaker will 18 inches from the wall and side walls are about 3’ for the right and 6’ for the left. Is the 18” to the back wall suggesting the Signature SE is the better option? I’m leaning to the SE vs XD because I’m concerned that the internal amp in the speaker is another thing that could go wrong and shipping off a speaker for that repair isn’t appealing. Regarding the amp, obviously Legacy’s Power Block 2 would be a good option. Also looking at a Buckeye Purifi amp or a wild card I’m reading up on is the Tone Winner AD-1 PA+. Any thoughts ? https://summithifiusa.com/products/ad-1-pa-hi-fi-amplifier

I think it is good that some dealers chime in just realize they are like pharmaceutical companies or corporations may have a bias or may not they may have chosen that line because they like it and it's a bargain like legacy audio is.we have all kinds of reviews and they do get products at a discount but I still read them there might be something I can learn.i don't have any brick and morter shops near me. Closest is 5 hours away or in another state.enjoy the hunt and the music. |
I got a pair of Signature SE two years ago. I originally bought a pair of Classic HD, and after listening to them for awhile always kicked myself for not going for the Signatures instead. However, the factory gave me a very generous trade in on the Classics; the sound characteristics of the two models are the same, but the Signatures just have more. I would guess that it would be the same situation between the Signatures and the Focus. I would have gone with the Focus, but they're a bit larger and the WAF factor sort of kicked in. Plus, the sealed design of the Signatures makes for more flexibility in placement. I'll second everything audiotroy said in above post. My hot button is soundstage and imaging, and these really shine in that characteristic. Also, great detail, and very non fatigueing. I listen to a lot of classical (along with blues, rock, and jazz) and the separation and placement of instruments in a symphony orchestra is incredible. Smaller ensembles, like string quartets, sound very warm and natural. Same with vocals. I'm driving them with a pair of PS Audio M700 monoblocks. |
Another longtime Legacy user here. Their strengths match my listening preferences. I use the Signature SE, but with a larger room would move up to the Focus SE. The fact they are not ported allows closer front wall placement. One caveat: the dealers above say Legacys "sound great with a large number of amplifiers." This is true, but they sound best with high current, Class. For many this means Pass or Coda. You don't mention what amp(s) you would be using/considering, but Legacy would not be my speakers of choice for tube amplification. |
We are a legacy dealer and the signatures are excellent across the board they are basically neutral with a clean detailed top end and a wide soundstage the bass is clean and punchy and a bit warm they sound great with a large number of amplifiers, and work well in many diffeeent sized rooms.
