Class D Audio

Tom is an upright guy. Has his challenges as does any small high end audio company. But he will service any problems no question. And let's face it, stuff happens.

craigl59,

I thought it could not have been Tom as your dogs would have certainly reacted. To protect Jerry.
Well, it could have been a DIFFERENT Tom mono block, but I don't think so.
Noone has mentioned that in the resurrection post above Tom came back as a mono block, but he has both left and right channels.
This is because during his resurrection he received not balanced, or unbalanced circuitry, but, rather, IMBALANCED circuitry.
So, as a result, he sometimes goes right and sometimes left. All depends on the time of day and his mood...
,,,and the Cavaliers were trying to get at his speaker posts with legs uplifted but I stopped them thinking that would be unkind to a tearing mono block.
craigl59,

I think you were lied to. If your dogs did not react, that was not Tom.

Funny thing.  The monitor
Is quick to take down a proper question.  But has no problem with this one
  Let's get that right
You guys are missing your calling as stand-up comedians... this is some damn funny stuff.  Thanks for a damn good laugh to finish my day.  It is the best medicine and might be of some help to Tom.
I prefer dealing with Jerry.  He always got the best of Tom.  In the end, Tom was a loser!
Tom was unfortunately influenced by his cousin, Tom-Tom, who had CTE from being struck repeatedly.

Back to reality: I did a LOT of research on class D amps (not just features, but how they are said to sound) to use with high-quality studio monitors (ATC SCM12 Pro) on my space-constrained desktop that simply couldn’t accomodate a sufficiently powerful class AB amp. I ended up getting used Wyred4Sound ST500, which is very powerful yet not huge. Because it throws off zero heat even w/full load, I have it standing on one side snugged up against my tower PC.

The ATCs are transparent, truth-telling speakers, and they tell me this amp sounds rather good.
I wonder if that’s the same Tom that worked for me about 30 years ago.

He told me about his father, who taught airframe and powerplant for the AirForce in WW2. His father had a saying that he always put on the chalkboard at the beginning of each semester- ’If there is a way to assemble it wrong, someone will find a way to do it." This became known on the base as Murphy’s Law, since it was named after the good professor.
So the Son of Murphy worked for me for while and oddly, after he left, bad things happened a bit less often.
Does anyone think its funny that you never see Clearthink and Tom together?
There are a lot of class D amp companies out there. I’m not sure what distinguishes a lot of them based on technology used.

For example, I own a Spectron class D amp. It’s got a hefty bit of weight to it. A lot of other company class D amps are fairly light weight affairs.
"Clearly" you are unwell.
Bed rest is in order.
WTH is Katie when he is needed....
Wow everyone here is so sensitive so much more so than I ever previously recognized the group simply increasingly can not accommodate, accept, or tolerate a contrary, dissenting, or non-conforming opinion I feel sorry for so many of you!
@clearthink. I’m not sure how your post contributes to this discussion. It seems like a generic attack directed to the American contributors here.
It is most entertaining to others how you American's strut you're Freedom of Speech when what it really means is Freedom of Speech for those who think, act, and believe as you do this is why your nation is becoming an international laughing stock and I'm sure you'll have this post deleted too!

Out walking the dogs and saw a monoblock on the side of the path; looked closer and there was a tear coming out of its right channel.

“What's the problem?”

“I'm a single monoblock living in a stereo world. Noone wants to turn me on (apologies, Norah Jones)”

“Well have you thought about losing some weight? Maybe then you'd be more appealing. What do you weigh – 50, 100 pounds?”

“147 last time papa Pass weighed me.”

“Well try a diet – maybe play some light classical – Leroy Anderson or Andrew Loyd Weber. What's your name, btw?”

“Tom...they used to call me Tom.”

And another tear appeared – this time from the left channel...

I understand that is it uncomfortable, unpleasant, and unwanted for you little children hear to have to actually interact with the adults who quickly and decisively detect you're silly nonsense and that promptly, thoroughly, and plainly alert the other others user's here to your misconceptions, misunderstanding and profound enduring ignorance of matters relating to audio.

Pretty sure there has been a resurrection...
...yes...
...Tom has come back as a Class A mono block!
Oh my God. I just heard that he took an unexpected turn for the worse and passed! Class D will never be the same. RIP Tom.
If think this isn’t fair on Tom, since the accident he’s been far from upright, in fact he’s been bed bound for a few months now, and we all know the accident was down to his small high end issues. I mean seriously who thinks it’s ok to ride a motorcycle naked? Even if he was called out to Service a problem on some stuff at 3am. I’ve never really seen eye to eye with Top, which was mainly down to him being a very small man, nevertheless I wish him a speedy recovery and every success. Thumbs up to Tom
Bought a few things too. Mostly learning from informed folks that have something worthwhile to say. Yep, new guy, thanks for the welcome!!
@drew_f

Two posts on the forum and both pertain to this class D amplifier company?

Hmmm...
Confusing OP, but hope all is well.

So I have a 4 channel SDS-470 and it's excellent. Runs Mag 3.7i with authority, great soundstage, and power I haven't fully explored. Compares well to Primare A34.2, which is OK except it trips a safety shutdown at random times with vinyl playback (requires power reset). No problems with Class D Audio amp, no shutdown issues.

Not affiliated with Tom or his company. Just a customer.
Warning, listening to early Floyd can lead to momentary lapses of mental function.
Apparently, one of their products was reviewed by an online magazine, though it’s not clear when (undated).
Shout out to Colin selling the Nord One Up SE monoblocks with ncore 500. Great sounding Class D.

Hey, if its got testimonials and "A Sound Experience" subtitle its good enough for me. Why do we need those heavy class A amps that are essentially perfect as regards waveform and use all that electricity? Class D is the wave of the future and only lacking a catchy phrase such as:

"If its good enough for Tom, its good enough for me!"

@stereo5 this OP is also a forum/Audiogon newbie. Zero responsive posts.
I used to know a Tom. Worked for the highway dept and kept dead animals in his trunk. Ya know "just in case" Maybe its the same person.
donvito

We should first diagnose Tom before we prescribe medication. Further we would be best served if we don't tell him of the possible side affects which can be extremely harmful.
You should tell Tom to hang in there. With the correct therapy and medications all that stuff will be just fine!

Tom used to be OK. But the stuff that’s been happening has clearly changed him as stuff will sometimes do. Hope he gets passed the stuff and things, I miss the old Tom....you know, pre-stuff.
