Ask me that question next July 30, 2016 and I will tell you then! These speakers are not on the market yet!
Best undiscovered speakers on the market today ?
Have you ever noticed the same brands of equipment and speaker manufacturers being debated over and over again in most threads ? I am curious what are some of the most little know speakers deserving mention you have heard ? With the lone caveat that they must still be currently in production.
I am curious to hear from some of the more research oriented audiophiles like myself. Those who don't just buy it because someone else liked it but listen for them selves.
Remember this hobbie is allot like choosing a mate there are no wrong choices as long as it works for you and suits your personal taste !

Tbg, yes I'm sure they do lack the bass that the BMC Arcadias put out! That's like saying the Ford F150 lacks the carrying capacity available in an 18-wheeled tractor trailer :-) With two 11-inch woofers per side, and weighing 200 lbs each, I'm quite certain the floor-standing Arcadia puts out more bass than any monitor design I've ever heard of. And at $36K per pair, I do believe the Arcadias will never see the inside of my humble abode. BMC's product dichotomy is interesting - they have the PureVOX at just under $6500, basically a monitor on an integrated stand, and then the big Arcadias all the way up at $36K. I wonder if they'll add something in the middle, to fill the gap. |
Bcgator, I still remember at CES when Carlos just plunked down the Pure Vox in his room and connected them to the amps. They are indeed quite impressive. But they lack the bass that is evident in the BMC Arcadias, which are, of course, more expensive. I think the BMC gear in general is undiscovered in the USA. |
I just posted a review of my BMC PureVOX, which I've now owned for a few months. They were off the beaten path for me, stepped out on a limb and gave them a shot and I'm elated with them. My previous experience was with a lot of B&W, Proac, Sonus Faber, Mirage, AR, all big well-known names. I'm guessing most people have never seen a pair of the PureVOX, but they best everything I've ever owned before. I think they qualify as "undiscovered" for most people. |
I have 3 for you: 1. Magnestand (mofified Maggies) 2. WaveTouch Audio Grand Teton's 3. Linkwitz Orion's or LX521's If you want a real "giant slayer" for a small room (or even a large room): you will not find anything that will beat the WaveTouch Grand Teton monitors - simply amazing, especially for the price! But... if I have a little larger budget... the Linkwitz Orion's or LX521's would be my choice over all other's available! Unvbelievable "live, life-like" sound! |
Two speakers that deserve merit are Audiokinesis and High Emotion Audio. The Audiokinesis perform well above their price points, are easy to drive, wide bandwidth and plainly outright musical. Another is the High Emotion Audio line. They have patented a new kind of tweeter that is much faster than the prior art and is also very efficient. I've not heard their more full-range efforts yet, but their monitors are without question head and shoulders above the competition. |
Good day all, Grant Fidelity has two models of monitors that are absolutely outstanding. The top model being their RBS-1 monitor at around 2k mark. The bass produced from these is incredible, so much so, I had to settle for the model down, the MBS-1. (approx. 1k) my room is simply too small the RBS's. I'm not complaining though, it saved 1k, and the sound is still outstanding. |
Depending on how far you define "undiscovered" Xavian http://www.xavian.cz/en/index.html Brodmann Acoustics http://www.brodmannacoustics.com/en A few years ago, Albert mentioned Bösendorfer; Brodmann may be regarded as a successor to them since Bösendorfer speakers went out of production after Yamaha took over that venerable company; Also, one that belongs to the really almost unknown: Daluso (Design Aluminium Soundsystems) http://www.daluso.com/ |
Although they've been around for over 30 years, Ohm Acoustics might qualify. These days, with only word-of-mouth and email advertising, few audio press reviews, and no hifi show demo appearances, Ohm is somewhat under the radar. I will admit that I arranged to home-audition a pair of Ohms because other Audiogoners described them in a way that suggested they were what I was seeking. That turned out to be very much the case. A year after I decided to keep my Ohm Walsh 2000s, I could not be happier with them and the value they offer. My full review of these speakers is in the Review section of this site. |
>They are in fact the show speakers that won Best of Show at the New York Audio show.About 4 years ago I sent them Back for new cabinet Rosewood Rather the the original ugly black.I have heard no speakers at any price I wold replace them with and I, heard speakers up to half a mil per pair< So is this some kind of riddle? Would you like us to *guess* what speakers you are talking about? Shakey |
They are in fact the show speakers that won Best of Show at the New York Audio show.About 4 years ago I sent them Back for new cabinet Rosewood Rather the the original ugly black.I have heard no speakers at any price I wold replace them with and I, heard speakers up to half a mil per pair. I;ve never heard the mythical RMX speakers, I,ve never seen them. They were perported nearly impossible to produce.I'd really like to hear RM 50s at this years Rockey Mountain audio fest. |
Zu Definitions, but mainly they are just too new I think, forget it nothing close in the price range, Dual full range, no crossovers, powered array of 4 more 10's down to 16 hz... the Reimers as suggested above are somewhat close, so are VMPS... but then you gotta go to far more money Avantgarde Duo type money and those are killer un-known as well |
RAW Acoustics Haven't heard their stuff but seem like pretty sharp designers. |
I have the 1.5 WC and they are great. They are really under priced for their build quality and parts. The sound is fantastic with a smooth, laid back charater. The tweeter L-pad on the back should be standard equipment for all speakers. http://sourcespeaker.com |
Decware Radial 1.5. There is so much this speaker does right. For the first month or so I thought I had made a mistake in gettting these. They take awhile to loosen up and break in. After going to the VTV show in Arcadia, I was surprised at how all the speakers I listened to sounded like nothing more than sophisticated, elaborate and refined PA systems. They were all simply too 'in your face' in their approach and had small sweet spots and it wasn't a result of the small rooms: I listen in the 'nearfield' in a room not much bigger than what they had and couldn't take it for the long term. I guess I'm spoiled by these Decwares. |
You should add SALK Veracity 3's to the list also. I do not own them, but i had the pleasure of hearing them at the designer/builder's home and they are quite impressive -- especially for under $5k. Incredible cabinetry, ribbon tweet, magnesium mid, & perhaps the best non-powered bass I have ever heard from the non assuming-looking 10" aluminum woofers. I believe they were voted "best of show" at one of the Rocky Mountain Audio shows also. Definitely worth looking into and auditioning if possible. Also see the excellent review here @ the 'Gon. |
I have used speakers by this small Canadian company for the last 25 years or so.They have a line called the Reference Series in which they offer three models.I own the Reference TWO.Their website is WWW.SPEAKERDIRECT.COM. Pricing ranges from $1400 to 4000 Canadian.Quality of build and sound rivals speakers costing much more. They used to sell factory direct, but are now establishing a network of dealers in Canada and the USA. |
Here's the link: Intuitive Design Website Dale's giving a seminar in Connecticut over the next few days (he left today, 12/15), and I don't know what their phone and/or email contact arrangements are while he's out of town (his company is based in Wyoming). If you send an email, it's important to put something in the subject line that identifies your query as non-spam, i.e. "Question about the Summits: Where can they be heard?" or something to that effect. He seems to travel a lot, so the response time (at least for my emails) has been variable. He's extremely helpful over the phone when you do get a hold of him, however. I personally think he's a genius. (Ralph Dodson, too) |
