Best short-lived band?

1) Derek and the Dominoes
2) Stephen Stills Manassas
3) Orleans

Reubent,

Little Village might not have realized their full potential (IMHO - the same is true of another popular choice - Blind Faith) but they were still a lot of fun. As to Rockpile - they do belong on this list - and i mentioned them last summer. Why not?

Marty
OK, I've seen Little Village mentioned a couple of times now, and IMHO they don't fit the bill. I think of them more as a Supergroup composed of 4 of the best in the business, i.e. Cooder, Hiatt, Keltner and Lowe.

Although I own the CD and listen to it on occassion, I think the whole is way less than the sum of the parts.

Heck, If we're going to include "bands" like Little Village, I'll through Rockpile into the mix......

Enjoy,

TIC
"One and Dones" are a unique subset of short-lived bands.
The La were a good one, as was Little Village, mentioned above. I'd add The New Radicals to the this list.

Marty
Yeah, the La's, forgot about that really short lived band. Scousers' finest, even better than the Beatles, The Liver birds, River City People, The Kop, Emlym Hughes, Neverton FC,
and not forgetting Cilla Black, now there was a voice.
Sorry for this bit of UK rambling.
the britpop band "The La's". great album, did one never satified and disapeared from music for 20 some odd yrs. if you can find it give it a spin.
Blind Faith, Jimi Hendrix Experience, and last, but certainly not least, Rick and the Raiders for that beloved classic, Hang on Sloopy! After all, one can hardly call tBDBitL from tOSU a short lived band. Oops, maybe I'm posting this on the wrong forum.
The Commitments
Moby Grape
Blind Faith
Mountain
Big Brother and The Holidng Company (Janis Joplin)
Savoy Brown - the version that made "Raw Sienna". Have to agree with Blind Faith, Little Village and Derek and the Dominos for fantastic one offs.

Also, the first touring version of Steely Dan - circa "Can't Buy a Thrill". This is a hard one because Fagen and Becker have been around so long, but this particular band was an inspiration.
Look for Susan Rhatigan's "To Hell with Love" ... blues-pop-rock, kind of a refined Janis Joplin sound.
The Romantics. "What I Like About You" is still such a great tune...makes me smile everytime I hear it - even if being used in a commercial.
I hear Blind Faith several times, I hear the Ginger Baker trio, what about the CREAM !!!
13th Floor Elevators The psycedelic sound of the Thirteenth Floor Elevators in 1966 and then Easter Everywhere in 1967 before Roky Erickson was arrested for drug use and locked up in a mental institution for schizophrenia.
Thanks Ohnwy61, I am aware of those by Baerwald and now that you have said good things I will have to pick up a couple of these and have a listen!
? Mark and the Mysterians. Who performed 96 Tears, which is one great tune.
David and David, one absolutely amazing record.

Fortunately reissued, remastered, restamped on Classic Records.
Ginger Baker Trio: Ginger Baker, Bill Frissel, Charlie Haden. Check 'em out, GREAT power trio jazz/rock.
Good God
Darryl Way's Wolf
Bella Band
Dun
Hosemobile
Tipographica
Gentle Giant did some great stuff but they lasted for 10 years and put out 12 albums.
taste, the sex pistols, the lovin spoonful, brownsville station, the jeff beck group(yea that one), the yardbirds, fanny, earthquake, the original mothers of invention
The Rock and Roll hall of fame has a section dedicated to "one-hit wonders." My peronal favorite is the We Five.
Hard to believe no one has mentioned the group SPIRIT. IMHO, one of the all time great bands.
Marty - Thanks. I'll look for that. Felix will be missed in any lineup...but if Leslie is there...might be good.
Ghosthouse

There is a new release from Mountain - haven't heard it so I can't speak to the quality (or lineup, for that matter) - but thought you might like to know.

Marty
Lots of good choices already, but I'd add a few more:

801
The Reivers
Uncle Tupelo
The Delevantes
The New Radicals
Veg
James Gang
Rockpile
The dBs
Hindu Love Gods

This thread is a good opportunity to remember those who left us (one way or another) too soon.
Marty
Yow, Aiudiofeil! - Thought I was the only one that remembered Crabby Appleton ! I've searched but haven't found them on-line...is it still possible?

How about "Good Rats"?

You have a great list of bands here. I really like David and David - esp. "Welcome to the Boomtown". Was living in Houston mid-80s after the oil industry crashed when that came out.
Must have missed this when you first posted.

Blind Melon and Sublime. I beleive both these bands were in their artistic infancy when we lost them. RIP Bradley and Shannon.
