KEF R7 META
We've got two systems, KEF R7Metas in the second system and Tidal Piano Ceras in the main one.. The R7s are in a 30' x25' room with 10' ceilings and well away from side walls and the rear of the speakers are about 32" from the wall.  We use them ...
Best practices for speaker cabinet care
@zlone, No, the Meguiar's Instant Detailer will definitely not remove scratches as it's just a clear liquid with no abrasives. I've never had occasion to try and remove scratches from my speakers. I'd imagine one would have to be skilled in using...
Best practices for speaker cabinet care
@zlone, I've had a pair of black piano lacquer Tidal Piano speakers for more than ten years. When they need more than dusting I dust them first with a new Swifter duster and then use a newly laundered micro-fiber cloth and Mequiar's Instant Deta...
Best practices for speaker cabinet care
The only type of wood finishes that need any "conditioners" are wax or oil finishes. Anything other type of finish, the wood is completely sealed and anything applied to the finish just sits on it never penetrating the finish. If the veneer finish...
Real experience - Balanced or Unbalanced between Luxman Pre & Power Amps
Other than preferring to use balanced cables I hesitate to offer advice beyond that. Your Luxman pair is voiced a little differently from mine and your speakers aren't voiced the same (mine are Tidal Piano Ceras.) From what I've heard of ATC speak...
Real experience - Balanced or Unbalanced between Luxman Pre & Power Amps
Well, off the bat I'd sat your interconnects are less resolving than the amp/preamp you've got. Also, what about the rest of the system? How about speakers and source, are they up to the quality of your amp/preamp? That issue aside, I've got Luxma...
polishing pins of NOS tubes
I've used a Dremel many times to clean up tube pins, it's not difficult at all as long as you pay attention to the direction of tool rotation and use it correctly. I use Maas metal polish on a small felt wheel as opposed to the brass brush though....
Tube Pre/ Class D Amp - Who has done it?
I quite like my PS Audio M1200 mono amps and preferred them to my PSA BHK250. It synergistically plays well with my DeHavilland UltraVerve and ModWright LS36.5 preamps. It also sounded great with the departed PS Audio BHK preamp. Sounds excellent ...
Need a modern Class A monoblock, preferably half or compact chassis
Dan @ ModWright said around 25 watts for class A as I recall. In my system, I find them to be a class A type sound rather than A/B. Dan feels the Exicon transistors lend a different sound signature than one might expect. I'd agree. It's always ris...
Need a modern Class A monoblock, preferably half or compact chassis
Another possibility could be ModWright's new KW99 mono amps. They are rated @ 100w/8ohms - 200w/4ohms and are heavily biased into class A. I bought a pair 6 months ago and am very pleased with them. They work exceptionally well driving my Tidal Pi...
Legacy Focus SE or PS Audio FR20
I have to chime in about bashing Audiotroy for being unethical for posting positive comments about his products. As previously mentioned, he's upfront about his dealer status so there's no subterfuge there. I've had phone conversations about speak...
PS Audio BHK signature preamp
"Best" tubes will depend on the rest of your system and preferences. I preferred unusual choices: red label CBS/Hytron 5814a or Raytheon black plate 5814a tubes. Siemens and Telefunkens were just too bright with my Tidal Piano Ceras for my tastes....
PS Audio BHK signature preamp
I agree with audphile1 about not rushing to tube roll. The latest tubes that PSA ships the BHK with are very decent tubes. After the preamp is broken in and you've got a handle on the sound is the time to think about whether it might be tweaked in...
Xangsane SP-9001AG silver interconnect
FWIW, I tried both Xangsane's SP-9003 RCA silver interconnect and P-6008Ag power cord out of curiosity. Both were ok at best,  somewhat lacking in their ability to reveal fine nuances in my two systems. The RCA connector quality is flimsy compared...
PS Audio BHK signature preamp
I used a BHK pre for quite a few years in rotation with a Luxman C-700u, DeHavilland UltraVerve III, &  ModWright LS36.5. It was an excellent sounding preamp that held its own with respect to the others. Of course, each has its particular stro...
